Itinerary
Day 1 - Puerto Maldonado
Arrive at Puerto Maldonado International Airport, where the staff from Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica lodge will welcome you and transfer you to the river port. From there, we take a 45-minute boat journey along the Madre de Dios River, travelling through the heart of the jungle to reach the lodge. After checking in, enjoy lunch at the lodge before setting out on your afternoon activities. We explore the extensive trail system surrounding the lodge, observing the diverse vegetation, insects and birdlife. Later, attend an informative talk on the local ecosystem’s significance. As the afternoon draws to a close, we embark on a boat cruise along the river to watch the sunset and spot nocturnal wildlife such as alligators, nightjars, capybaras and owls. Return to the lodge for dinner, where you can relax with a welcome cocktail while the guides present insights into the region’s flora and fauna.
Day 2 - Puerto Maldonado
We start early with breakfast to make the most of the cooler morning hours. Afterwards, we head to Lake Sandoval within Tambopata National Reserve. Here, we glide across the oxbow-shaped lake in a wooden canoe, surrounded by rich vegetation and abundant wildlife. This area is a sanctuary for numerous bird species, aquatic life, and endangered animals such as giant river otters, red howler monkeys, red-bellied macaws, anacondas and side-neck turtles. At midday, we return to the lodge for lunch. Later in the afternoon, we explore the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway Interpretation Center, a series of seven suspension bridges standing 45 metres above the jungle floor. We spend around an hour and a half walking among the treetops, spotting various trees, orchids, toucans, woodpeckers and, with some luck, birds of prey, sloths and monkeys. The day concludes with dinner at the lodge and an informative presentation on the Amazon.
Day 3 - Puerto Maldonado
After breakfast at the lodge, we take a 45-minute boat ride across the Madre de Dios River to Puerto Maldonado. From there, you will catch your flight to your next destination.
