Itinerary
Day 1 - Cape Town
On arrival at Cape Town International Airport, we’ll meet you in the arrivals hall with a sign in your name, drive you to your hotel and assist with check-in. Spend the rest of the day at leisure – enjoy the hotel amenities, or if you prefer, you could head into the city centre to see its historic architecture, take the cable car up Table Mountain, or explore the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront with its bars, restaurants, boutiques, shops, cinemas and aquarium, where there is regular live entertainment at the outdoor amphitheatre. These activities are recommendations only and not included. After exploring at your own pace, return to the hotel to relax and prepare for tomorrow. Overnight in Cape Town.
Day 2 - Cape Town
After breakfast at the hotel, we set out on a leisurely walking tour of the City Bowl to admire its well‑preserved neoclassical and Art Deco buildings. We visit the Castle of Good Hope – built by the Dutch East India Company (VOC) – where we look for the bell tower that once warned citizens of danger and note Dutch, British and French influences in its design, including expressive Cape Dutch elements that soften its formal lines. We continue to the Grand Parade, the city’s main square, to see the Edwardian City Hall, completed in 1905 – the balcony from which Nelson Mandela gave his first speech about freedom. We then stroll through the Company’s Garden – once the VOC’s vegetable garden and today shaded by oak trees – walking past Parliament and Tuinhuis before heading into Bo–Kaap, the historic Cape Malay Quarter known for its colourful architecture with Cape Dutch and Edwardian features. Before returning to the hotel, we enjoy a light lunch of samosas and samies – included – and you can purchase spices from a local vendor. The rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight in Cape Town.
Day 3 - Cape Town
After breakfast at the hotel, we set out for Langa, one of Cape Town’s oldest townships, where you can see how informal homes are built from materials such as cardboard and tin. We then continue into the Southern Suburbs, an affluent area known for its fine architecture. We explore the expansive University of Cape Town campus with its mountain backdrop, then drive up to Rhodes Memorial – designed by Herbert Baker – for panoramic views over the city. Baker also designed Groote Schuur, where Nelson Mandela and F. W. de Klerk signed the first agreements that paved the way out of apartheid. Further south, we visit Groot Constantia, the country’s oldest wine estate and a notable example of Cape Dutch architecture – a formal wine tasting provides a fitting finale to the day. We then return to your hotel. Overnight in Cape Town.
Day 4 - Cape Town - Stellenbosch - Cape Town
After breakfast, we travel to Stellenbosch, South Africa’s second‑oldest city and a heartland of Cape Dutch architecture, and stroll along Dorpstraat to take in its historic buildings. We then visit Rustenberg and Boschendal just outside the town. At Rustenberg, we view Cape Dutch buildings dating to 1700, wander through the garden and enjoy a wine tasting. At Boschendal, we explore the Manor House with its celebrated front gable dated 1812 – a wavy, urn‑topped design reflecting baroque and neoclassical influences – before an included summer picnic or a light a la carte meal in winter, with a wine tasting. We continue to Franschhoek, once a refuge for French Huguenots – a symbol of the Holy Trinity – and later return to Cape Town. Overnight in Cape Town.
Day 5 - Cape Town
Begin your final morning in Cape Town with breakfast at the hotel. You have some free time to relax before we arrange for your guide to pick you up and transfer you to the airport for your flight – safe travels.
