Day 1 - Madrid
You have the morning to yourself in Madrid, giving you a chance to explore the city at your own pace or relax before we embark on an exciting adventure later in the day. In the afternoon, we will take you on a panoramic tour of the city, showcasing some of Madrid’s most iconic landmarks. Our journey will include visits to the Royal Palace, a symbol of the enduring power and elegance of Spanish monarchy, the stunning Cibeles Fountain, known for its breathtaking design, and the cultural hub along Paseo del Prado, home to world-renowned museums. We will conclude our tour at the lively Plaza Mayor, where you can soak up the vibrant nightlife and perhaps indulge in some local delicacies. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Madrid
On the second day of your journey, you'll have a full day at leisure in Madrid. For those interested, we offer an optional excursion to the historic city of Toledo, famed for its unique blend of Christian, Muslim, and Jewish influences reflected in its stunning architecture. Known for its rich historical heritage, Toledo is a former Spanish capital and a UNESCO World Heritage site. This optional outing provides an opportunity to deepen your appreciation of Spain’s cultural tapestry through exploring its narrow medieval streets and taking in splendid views of the Tagus River. Enjoy the freedom of the day to create your own memorable adventures.
Day 3 - Madrid - Segovia - Pedraza - Bilbao
We begin our journey today by setting off for the region of Castile, travelling through stunning mountain landscapes. Our first stop is Segovia, where we'll take a scenic route to the Mirador de la Pradera de San Marcos. This vantage point offers you breathtaking views of the Alcázar of Segovia, a castle that was the inspiration for Walt Disney's depiction of Maleficent's castle in Sleeping Beauty, along with its impressive city walls. Next, we'll park near the Roman Aqueduct of Segovia, a remarkable structure built in the 1st century, which remained in use until 1973 and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will have free time to wander through the old town, enjoy lunch, and visit the Plaza Mayor, home to the cathedral and the Alcázar.We'll then continue our journey along picturesque roads, soaking in the quaint towns and landscapes on our way to Pedraza. Often celebrated as one of Spain's most charming villages, Pedraza is a fortified medieval town with cobblestone streets, historic architecture, a charming Plaza Mayor, and a fortress from the 13th century. Here, you’ll have some free time to explore and appreciate the town's unique character.In the afternoon, our journey leads us to the Basque Country, culminating in our arrival in Bilbao. You’ll have free time to discover the old town, where you can indulge in the region's famous pintxos at the numerous taverns and bars.
Day 4 - Bilbao - Guernica - San Sebastian
Following breakfast, we will embark on a guided exploration of Bilbao. Among the city's top attractions is the iconic Guggenheim Museum, renowned for its remarkable architecture. We'll also explore the medieval heart of the city, characterised by its bustling streets and the impressive cathedral. Afterwards, you'll have some free time to wander and savour lunch, with a recommendation to visit La Ribera Market. This unique structure, resembling a boat, offers a delightful selection of traditional Basque cuisine with riverside views.In the afternoon, we will travel to Guernica, a town poignantly remembered for the tragic bombing during the Spanish Civil War, immortalised in Pablo Picasso's famous painting. Here, you'll have the chance to see the Tree of Gernika—an enduring symbol of Basque autonomy established in the Middle Ages. Our journey continues to Hondarribia, a charming coastal town known for its sandy beaches, ancient fortifications, and vibrant maritime atmosphere. You can stroll through its cobbled streets and enjoy the historic ambiance, with time for dinner. By nightfall, we'll arrive in the elegant city of San Sebastian. Our accommodation usually sits atop Mount Igueldo, providing one of the most stunning views of the city, illuminated beautifully at night.
Day 5 - San Sebastian - Bordeaux
In the morning, we'll start by taking in the breathtaking views over San Sebastián Bay from Mount Igueldo. After enjoying the panoramic scenery, we will visit the Miramar Palace and its charming gardens. You will then have some free time to either relax on the city’s expansive beach or take a leisurely walk along the boulevards. We have also arranged for you to enjoy a traditional Basque pintxo experience, complete with a refreshing drink. Early in the afternoon, we'll set off to France, arriving in the elegant city of Bordeaux by evening. Upon arrival, we recommend taking a stroll through the city centre to absorb its vibrant atmosphere.
Day 6 - Bordeaux - Chambord - Paris
We will travel through the renowned wine and cognac regions on our way to the enchanting Loire Valley, where we will visit the Ch?teau de Chambord. This remarkable castle, with its distinctive French Renaissance architecture, is considered one of the most impressive in the area. Admission is included, giving you the opportunity to explore the chateau's grand rooms and intricate designs. We'll then have some free time for lunch amid the stunning surroundings. In the afternoon, we'll continue our journey to Paris, arriving in the evening. Prepare to immerse yourself in the charm and vibrancy of the City of Light.
Day 7 - Paris
Our day begins with a visit to the magnificent Palace of Versailles, a hallmark of French history renowned for its splendid gardens. You'll need to arrange your own tickets for entry. As we make our way back to Paris, we stop at the delightful Montmartre district, a hub for artists and creatives, famed for its lively atmosphere and historic cabarets. To further appreciate the grandeur of Paris, we embark on a panoramic city tour accompanied by a local guide. They will bring the city's iconic avenues and landmarks to life with fascinating insights. After the tour, we'll return to the hotel, and for those interested, there's the option of experiencing an evening variety show.
Day 8 - Paris
We begin our day in the heart of Paris with a visit to the legendary Eiffel Tower, where you’ll have the chance to ascend to the second floor and take in stunning views of the cityscape (admission tickets included). Following this, we’ll embark on a tranquil boat cruise along the Seine River, lasting approximately one hour and fifteen minutes, offering a unique perspective of Paris's iconic landmarks from the water. The afternoon is yours to explore the city's enchanting streets and discover attractions that pique your interest (return transfer to the hotel is not included). Please note: should wait times at the Eiffel Tower be excessively long, we may reschedule this visit for a more convenient time, possibly on Sunday.
Day 9 - Paris - Burgundy - Beaune - Lyon
Today, we embark on a journey through the captivating Burgundy region, celebrated for its idyllic vineyards and exceptional wines. Our morning drive will take us to Beaune, a delightful town nestled in the heart of Burgundy. Known for its charming, flower-lined streets and rich heritage, Beaune is a perfect pitstop. You will have free time here to enjoy lunch, take a leisurely stroll, and visit the renowned hospice or the wine museum if you wish.In the afternoon, we continue our travels to Lyon, historically recognised as the capital of Roman Gaul. Set on the picturesque banks of the Rhône River, Lyon's historic core is a UNESCO World Heritage site. On arrival, we'll take a cable car up to the hilltop Notre-Dame de Fourvière Basilica, offering splendid views over the sprawling city below. After admiring the scenery, you’ll have the opportunity to further explore this vibrant city at your leisure.Please note, in some instances, part of the group may stay in Chambéry, located near Lyon. If your group is among them, expect to travel to Chambéry in the evening for an overnight stay. The following morning, you’ll have time to explore this medieval town in the heart of Savoy, famed for its charming historical centre and its striking castle, before continuing your adventure.
Day 10 - Lyon - Geneva - Milan
Today we embark on an exhilarating journey to Switzerland, beginning with a visit to the vibrant city of Geneva. As we travel through Geneva, we'll pass by the imposing Palace of Nations, home to the European headquarters of the United Nations, and pause at the beautifully manicured English Garden to admire the iconic flower clock and the Jet d’Eau, the tallest fountain in Europe. You’ll have some free time to explore the charming streets of this Swiss city, set against the stunning backdrop of its glistening lake.Our voyage continues as we venture through the majestic Alps, home to Europe's highest peaks. Crossing into Italy via the remarkable Mont Blanc tunnel, we'll arrive in Milan by afternoon. Once there, our guide will lead us to the impressive Piazza del Duomo. You’ll have the opportunity to delve into Milan's historical heart, soaking in the city's rich culture and vibrant atmosphere at your own pace.
Day 11 - Milan - Venice
Departing from Milan, we’ll journey through the rich, fertile plains of the Po River towards Venice, a city renowned for its unique charm. We anticipate our arrival around 1:00 p.m., where a boat will transport us to the iconic St. Mark's area. In the afternoon, we’ll embark on a panoramic tour of Venice, allowing you to soak in the city's captivating atmosphere and explore its renowned sights. For those seeking a quintessential Venetian experience, consider opting for an optional gondola ride. Tonight, we’ll be staying in the Mestre area, conveniently placed for further exploration.
Day 12 - Venice - Florence
As we journey through the captivating landscapes of the Apennines, we make our way to Florence, a city steeped in Renaissance splendour. The first stop will be at Piazzale Michelangelo, where you're greeted with a panoramic view of the city, offering a perfect photo opportunity to capture the iconic skyline. You have some free time to savour lunch at your leisure, perhaps sampling some of the local Italian cuisine.In the afternoon, we will gather for a guided tour of Florence’s historic centre, which feels like stepping into an open-air museum. Accompanied by a local guide, we'll explore celebrated landmarks including the Ponte Vecchio, the majestic Duomo, and the lively Piazza della Signoria. Following the tour, you'll have additional free time to stroll through the picturesque streets, delve into the cultural wonders, or simply enjoy a gelato as you soak in the vibrant atmosphere of this enchanting city.
Day 13 - Florence - Siena - Assisi - Rome
On Day 13, we leave Florence for the historic city of Siena. Here, you'll witness the grandeur of Piazza del Campo, one of Europe's finest medieval squares, and admire its stunning cathedral. Next, we journey to Assisi, where a visit to the Basilica is included, guided by either a local expert or a Franciscan monk, offering insights into this spiritually significant site. You'll have some free time for lunch before we continue our travels, arriving in Rome by the evening.
Day 14 - Rome
We begin our day in the heart of Rome with a three-hour guided tour, delving into the rich history of the Eternal City. The morning will be spent exploring the splendours of Imperial Rome, featuring a walk that highlights landmarks such as the Arch of Constantine, the exterior of the grand Colosseum, and the Imperial Forums. Our panoramic bus ride will take us to further treasures, including the expansive Circus Maximus and the ancient Baths of Caracalla. We'll also pass by the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, the iconic Pyramid of Cestius, and the majestic Castel Sant'Angelo. Our tour concludes in the small, yet renowned state of Vatican City around 11:30 a.m., where you’ll have the afternoon free to explore at your leisure. Today, you have the entire day to explore Rome at your leisure. We recommend considering an optional excursion to the captivating regions of Naples, Capri, and Pompeii. Each offers a unique glimpse into the history and culture of Italy – from the bustling streets of Naples, the dazzling beauty of Capri, to the ancient ruins of Pompeii. Whether you choose to delve deeper into Rome’s treasures or venture out, today is yours to enjoy as you wish.
Day 16 - Rome
Following breakfast, our remarkable journey concludes, ensuring you depart with cherished memories of your travels.
