Itinerary
Day 1 - Puerto Maldonado
After arriving in Puerto Maldonado—ideally before 11:00 am—we begin our journey through the Peruvian Amazon with a scenic 25-minute boat ride along the Madre de Dios River to the lodge. Take in the lush surroundings as we travel. Enjoy a buffet lunch featuring local ingredients, offering your first taste of jungle flavours. In the afternoon, we explore the Concepcion trails on foot, learning about the forest’s ecosystem, its uses, and its vital role in the environment. As dusk falls, we board a motorised canoe for a river excursion to observe nocturnal wildlife and appreciate the clear, star-filled sky unique to the jungle. The day concludes with dinner at the lodge. Overnight in Puerto Maldonado.
Day 2 - Puerto Maldonado
After an early breakfast at the lodge, set out around 5.30 am for a walk through Tambopata National Reserve to Lake Sandoval. This area highlights why Madre de Dios is known as Peru’s biodiversity capital. We explore the lake by traditional canoe, gliding over its glassy surface while searching for wildlife such as giant otters, blue-and-yellow macaws, howler monkeys, black caimans and paiche—the world’s largest scaled freshwater fish. Return to the lodge for lunch before heading out in the afternoon to the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway and Anaconda Walk. Here, we traverse suspension bridges 28 metres above the forest floor, spotting toucans, hummingbirds, trogons, monkeys and sloths, while learning about the conservation work of the Inkaterra Association. After dinner, prepare for a nocturnal excursion to observe the Amazon’s night-time creatures and listen to the jungle’s unique sounds before returning to the lodge to rest.
Day 3 - Puerto Maldonado
After breakfast at the lodge, we explore the organic bio-garden, discovering tropical plants and their traditional medicinal uses. Next, we visit the Palmetum, a collection of Amazonian palm trees dedicated to restoration and conservation efforts. In the afternoon, we paddle a wooden canoe on Cocha Concepción, a horseshoe-shaped lagoon formed by the remnants of the Madre de Dios River. As we navigate its clay-coloured waters, we watch for birds such as shanshos and flycatchers, accompanied by the distant calls of howler monkeys. We also see the remains of the Fitzcarrald steamboat and learn about its history, which inspired Werner Herzog’s film Fitzcarraldo. Before dinner, join the Collpas Tierra Adentro excursion to visit a clay lick. While wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed, you will learn how these clay walls attract various mammals near the lodge. We stay overnight in Puerto Maldonado.
Day 4 - Puerto Maldonado
After breakfast at the lodge, we travel by canoe back to Puerto Maldonado. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to the airport for your onward flight, recommended to depart after 1:30 pm. This marks the conclusion of your Amazon adventure.
