Udaipur is included in more of our Rajasthan itineraries than any city other except Jaipur. It sits on Lake Pichola beneath the Aravalli hills, with the City Palace along the eastern shore with a set of courtyards added by successive Mewar rulers rather than built at once. Jagdish Temple stands outside its gates, and Ranakpur's marble Jain temples lie to the north.
Mehrangarh Fort sits on a rock outcrop above Jodhpur, with the old town spread below in the indigo-washed houses that give the blue city its name. This is where the farmland thins out and the Thar begins, so Jodhpur is the usual base for anything further west. Bishnoi villages and the desert temples at Osian are the common excursions.
Pushkar is a pilgrimage town built around a lake ringed by bathing ghats, and holds one of the very few temples in India dedicated to Brahma. It is small, largely vegetarian and alcohol-free, and appears on almost as many itineraries as Jodhpur.
Ranthambore is Rajasthan's tiger reserve and a former royal hunting ground, set in dry forest around a hilltop fort that still stands inside the park boundary. Sightings are never guaranteed, which is why itineraries here build in two jeep safaris rather than one. Be aware that the park closes during monsoon season so be sure to plan around that.
Rajasthan tours vary by route shape more than by length. Some take a single fort city for a few nights, some run a short loop south from Jaipur to Udaipur, and the longest cross the state and take in Ranthambore and Agra along the way.

Rajasthan itineraries are full of unique experiences. Hilltop forts, palace interiors, heritage stays, village life on the desert edge, and tiger tracking at Ranthambore fill the days spent crossing this region.
Rajasthan's forts sit above the towns they defended rather than beside them, so the climb is part of the visit. Mehrangarh, Amber and Chittorgarh are the largest.

We had some great experience with the places we visited. Our tour guide was very informative, helpful and knowledgeable. We were extremely impressed with all the hotels we stayed in. The Taj Mahal was the highlight of the sights we visited. Transportation from various places and bus were great.
DiamandisThe guide was excellent, a true gentleman. Taj Mahal was a masterpiece, much more beautiful than what I expected. The palace in Dholpur was also an unexpected surprise - the nature was amazing.
ElenaThe Taj Mahal was a once in a lifetime experience. The Akshardham Temple was exquisite, just a pity we were not allowed to take pictures in there. The Connaught Clubhouse in Delhi where we had lunch 2 days in a row has a fantastic menu. The Molecule in Agra was also a winner, fantastic atmosphere It was just the unbearable heat but that is not controllabble.

AllexandraThe Taj Mahal is indeed a must, but the night in the desert camp with the sunset in the desert and the dance and music show was unbelievable. During bus rides, the tour guide played music from his phone. Most of the songs were american songs, either from the 80's or from today. I understand he did that to please the young people on the trip. However, I find it would have made it a more authentic experience if he had played Indian music

Taj Mahal at Agra Pink city at Jaipur The 1st fort we saw. I think on the go tours could have explained at the beginning that the 6 day tour was joining a 14 day tour. I would have considered doing the 14 days if I had known or if the option was there to add on the extra days. The tour was fantastic.

However, our Agra guide, Sumit, was outstanding—professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. He explained the Taj Mahal beautifully, took great photos of us.

Rajasthan is desert and semi-desert, so the season is decided by heat rather than rain. Group departures run October to March, when the days are workable for climbing forts and the nights are cool. From April the plains become hard going, and the monsoon that soaks the rest of India arrives here late and light.
Temperature figures are overnight low to daytime high averages for Jaipur and Jodhpur, so afternoons feel hotter, and desert nights around Jaisalmer and Bikaner are colder than these suggest.

Around a fortnight for the state proper. That covers Jaipur, Pushkar, Udaipur and Jodhpur with two nights at Ranthambore, and is the length most of our Rajasthan itineraries are built at. Reaching Jaisalmer and Bikaner in the far west needs twelve days or more, and the full circuit runs to twenty-one. Under nine days you are choosing one or two cities.
Length, hotel grade and whether the trip runs privately or as a group departure are what move the price. Hotel grade counts for more in Rajasthan than on most Indian routes, because the heritage properties and converted forts are part of the trip rather than just somewhere to sleep, and several circuits are sold at more than one grade. International flights are not included unless stated.
Accommodation, ground transport within Rajasthan, guiding on routed days and entrance fees to the forts and palaces are standard. Where Ranthambore falls on the itinerary, the jeep safaris are included too. Breakfast is daily, and other meals vary by tour. International flights are not included unless stated. Most begin and end in Delhi, which is where the long-haul flights land and where the loop into Rajasthan opens. A smaller number run one way and finish in Mumbai, Varanasi or Kathmandu, and a few short routes start in Jaipur or Udaipur instead. City explorers are routed through Delhi at both ends.
No, though they overlap. The Golden Triangle is Delhi, Agra and Jaipur in a five to ten-day loop, and Jaipur happens to be a Rajasthan city. A Rajasthan tour carries on west from Jaipur to Udaipur and Jodhpur and takes around a fortnight. Around three quarters of our Rajasthan itineraries include Agra, so the Taj Mahal usually comes too.
About a third of our Rajasthan itineraries include Ranthambore, the state's tiger reserve. Those that do build in two jeep safaris rather than one, because sightings are never guaranteed. The park closes through the monsoon months, and the best chances come in the hotter part of the season from March to May, as cover thins.
Some do, but fewer than people expect. Jaisalmer sits in the far west and only around one in six of our Rajasthan itineraries includes it, so it is worth checking the individual tour rather than assuming. Those that do reach it tend to run a fortnight or longer, because the drive out to the desert and back takes days on its own.
It is a common first trip. The fort cities give the route a clear thread to follow rather than a scattered itinerary, and most tours start in Delhi and take in Agra, so the Taj Mahal comes with them. Be ready for long driving days between cities, and for climbing forts and palaces in the heat.
November through to February. November brings the Pushkar Camel Fair and warm, settled days, while December and January are the most comfortable for climbing Mehrangarh and Amber, though desert nights are cold. From March the heat builds quickly. The exception is tigers: if a sighting at Ranthambore matters most, the hotter months from March to May give a better chance.
