Itinerary
Day 1 - Chiang Mai - Mueang Chiang Mai District
Arrive at Chiang Mai Airport where a representative will meet you and escort you to your centrally located hotel. Spend the remainder of the day at your leisure—relax at the hotel or explore the charming old town, known for its surrounding walls and moat. Wander through the narrow streets and alleys, browse artisan shops, and sample local street food. In the evening, you may wish to visit the vibrant night market, where a wide variety of handicrafts, souvenirs, and snacks await. Vendors here are eager to engage in friendly bargaining. Overnight at your hotel in Chiang Mai on your chosen board basis.
Day 2 - Chiang Mai - Mueang Chiang Mai District
After a hearty breakfast, we set out on a half-day tour offering a comprehensive introduction to Chiang Mai. We drive up the winding road to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, the city’s most revered temple, perched 3,500 feet above sea level. Here, you will see the iconic copper-plated Chedi topped with a five-tier gold parasol, which houses relics of the Lord Buddha. From the temple terrace, enjoy sweeping views of Chiang Mai on a clear day. The climb up the 306 steps of the Naga staircase – adorned with mythological dragon-headed serpents – is a memorable experience. Back in the city, we visit Wat Suan Dok, known for its royal flower garden and large central stupa, and Wat Chedi Luang, featuring an impressive chedi dating back to 1411. We return to the hotel for an overnight stay in Chiang Mai.
Day 3 - Chiang Mai - Lamphun - Lampang - Sukhothai - ต. บ้านสวน
After breakfast, we travel to Lamphun to visit Wat Phra That Hariphunchai, a golden temple complex dating back to the eighth century, originally established by the Mon Kingdom. We then continue to the charming town of Lampang to explore Wat Phra That Lampang Luang, a historic temple renowned for its traditional Lanna architecture. Following lunch, we take a scenic drive to Sukhothai Historical Park, arriving in the late afternoon. Here, we explore the extensive ruins of Sukhothai, the first capital of the kingdom, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Overnight accommodation is in Sukhothai on a selected board basis.
Day 4 - Sukhothai - Uthai Thani - Ayutthaya - Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya District
Begin the day with a meaningful experience as we join local Buddhists in offering food to monks during their morning alms round. Afterwards, we drive south, stopping for a delicious lunch in Chai Nat. Today’s journey from Sukhothai through Uthai Thani to Ayutthaya follows the historical southward expansion of the Siamese kingdom. Upon arrival in Ayutthaya, the former capital of Siam, we explore Ayutthaya Historical Park, visiting the temple of Wat Phra Si Sanphet and the nearby Viharn Phra Mongkol Bophit, where you can admire the golden Buddha. We then continue to the haunting ruins of Wat Phra Mahathat, famous for the Buddha head entwined in tree roots. This remarkable heritage site is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We stay overnight in Ayutthaya on a selected board basis.
Day 5 - Ayutthaya - Kanchanaburi - Ban Tai
After breakfast, we drive through tranquil, pastoral landscapes largely unchanged by time before arriving in Kanchanaburi, a peaceful town where the Kwai Noi and Kwai Yai rivers meet. Known for its natural beauty and abundant wildlife, Kanchanaburi is also historically significant as the site of the infamous World War II ‘Death Railway Bridge’, famously depicted in the film The Bridge on the River Kwai. We visit the war cemetery, the resting place of thousands of soldiers, and the Thailand-Burma Railway Centre, which details the harsh conditions endured by Allied prisoners of war and Thai labourers during the railway’s construction. After a satisfying lunch, you have the afternoon at leisure to explore or relax. Overnight in Kanchanaburi on a selected board basis.
Day 6 - Kanchanaburi - Nakhon Pathom - Bangkok - Phra Nakhon
After breakfast, we leave Kanchanaburi and drive to Nakhon Pathom to visit the temple housing the impressive Phra Pathommachedi stupa, which at 127 metres is the tallest of its kind in the world. We then continue to Damnoen Saduak, renowned for its vibrant floating markets. Here, you can experience the lively atmosphere as boats laden with fresh fruit, vegetables and local delicacies glide along the canals—a quintessential taste of Thai culture. Afterwards, we proceed to Bangkok, where you will be dropped off at your hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 7 - Bangkok - Phra Nakhon
After a hearty breakfast, we explore three of Bangkok’s most iconic Buddhist temples. Begin at the Royal Grand Palace, an architectural masterpiece that served as the royal residence from the 18th century until the mid-20th century and remains one of Thailand’s most significant landmarks. Adjacent to the palace is Wat Pho, the city’s oldest temple, renowned for its enormous golden reclining Buddha and its traditional Thai massage school. We then visit Wat Traimit, home to the impressive 5.5-tonne Golden Buddha statue. The evening is yours to enjoy at leisure—perhaps with a traditional Thai massage, sampling local cuisine, or watching the sunset from one of Bangkok’s stylish rooftop bars. Overnight in your hotel in Bangkok on a selected board basis.
Day 8 - Bangkok - Phra Nakhon
After breakfast, enjoy some free time at your leisure before transferring to Bangkok Airport for your onward journey. Breakfast is included.
