Atlantic to Pacific Experience Self-Drive

Welcome to Costa Rica. Upon arrival, a local representative will meet you at the airport and assist with your shared transfer to the hotel in San José. After checking in, you will have leisure time to refresh and settle into your room. You may choose to explore the city and its surroundings at your own pace this afternoon. Overnight in San José.

We begin the day with an early check-out from the hotel. At approximately 6:00 am, a local representative will collect you from the hotel lobby for a shared transfer to Tortuguero National Park on the North Caribbean Coast. Around 8:30 am, we pause for breakfast in Guápiles before continuing to La Pavona dock. Here, you will board a shared boat to the lodge, where you can settle into a peaceful and tranquil setting. Check-in is around 1:00 pm, followed by a included lunch. At 2:30 pm, meet your guide for an expedition through the Tortuguero Canals – a highlight of the region. You will explore lagoons and narrow waterways, observing the abundant wildlife up close as you venture deeper into the forest. The remainder of the afternoon is at your leisure. Overnight stay is in Tortuguero.

After breakfast, meet your guide at 9:00 am for a walk along the lodge’s private trails, offering a close encounter with the local flora and fauna. The morning is yours to relax—take a dip in the pool or simply unwind in the tranquil surroundings. At 2:30 pm, join your guide for a visit to the charming village of Tortuguero, where you can experience the local culture and community. Return to the lodge afterwards to relax. Lunch and dinner are included during your stay.

After breakfast at the lodge, check out and prepare for departure. At around 9:30 am, we take a shared transfer by boat and road from Tortuguero to a restaurant in Guápiles, where lunch is included. Following lunch, at approximately 1:30 pm, a local car rental representative will meet you at the restaurant to hand over your rental vehicle and explain the contract details. You then begin your self-drive journey to the Caribbean beach town of Puerto Viejo. Upon arrival, around 4:30 pm, check in at your hotel and enjoy some free time to relax and make use of the hotel facilities.

After breakfast at the hotel, enjoy a full day at your leisure in Puerto Viejo de Talamanca. You may choose to relax by the beach or explore the vibrant town and its surrounding areas at your own pace. This is an ideal opportunity to soak up the laid-back Caribbean atmosphere and discover local shops, cafés, or nearby natural attractions. Overnight in Puerto Viejo.

After breakfast and check-out, you will self-drive to La Fortuna de San Carlos, the gateway to the impressive Arenal Volcano. Upon arrival, check in at your hotel and enjoy some free time to unwind and explore the natural surroundings at your own pace. Overnight in Arenal.

After breakfast at the hotel, enjoy a full day at leisure to relax or explore the Arenal region independently. This area offers a variety of natural attractions and activities, allowing you to tailor your day to your interests. Overnight in Arenal.

Breakfast is included at the hotel before you check out. At a convenient time, you will self-drive to Tamarindo beach on the North Pacific Coast in Guanacaste Province. Upon arrival, check in at your hotel and enjoy free time to relax at the resort or explore the vibrant beach town at your leisure. Overnight in Tamarindo.

Breakfast is included before you check out of the hotel. At a convenient time, you will self-drive back to San José. Upon arrival, check in at your hotel and meet the local car rental representative in the lobby to return your vehicle at the agreed time. You will then have free time to relax or explore the capital city at your leisure. Overnight in San José.

After breakfast, check out of the hotel. At the arranged time, a local representative will collect you from the lobby and provide shared transfer to Juan Santamaría International Airport for your departure flight home.
