Itinerary
Day 1 - Caño Negro
Arrive in Caño Negro – transfer not included – and check in to your luxury tent at Tocu Tent Camp, where warm hospitality and eco luxury await. You can take in lagoon views from your terrace, explore the walking paths around the property or simply unwind in the natural surroundings. In the afternoon we join a sustainability talk at the lodge, learning about local conservation initiatives, wetland protection, responsible tourism and how our stay directly supports community and environmental programmes – an introduction to one of Costa Rica’s most important wetland ecosystems. In the evening we enjoy an à la carte dinner prepared with local ingredients, after which you can relax in your tent to the soothing sounds of the wetlands. Overnight at Tocu Luxury Tent Camp.
Day 2 - Caño Negro
Wake to birdsong over the wetlands and enjoy a freshly prepared, locally inspired breakfast as the lagoons come to life. The cool morning is ideal for exploring and sets a calm pace for the day.This morning we take part in a hands on conservation activity – planting a tree at Hacienda Caño Negro. Guided by our hosts, we learn how reforestation supports healthy wetlands, restores wildlife habitats and creates biological corridors – a direct contribution to the long term preservation of this remarkable ecosystem.In the afternoon we head out for one activity of your choice, each offering a different window into Caño Negro. You can join a natural history walk with a naturalist guide to explore local plants, animal behaviour and ecological links; focus on a birdwatching tour to look for herons, ibises, anhingas, kingfishers and seasonal migratory species; take an eco tour on the Río Frío to seek caimans, turtles, monkeys, iguanas and river birds; ride on horseback along open pastures and wetland edges; opt for an agricultural tour to learn about local crops, farming traditions and sustainability practices; or choose a Costa Rican cooking or mixology class using fresh regional ingredients.As the day draws to a close, we return to Tocu Tent Camp for a delicious a la carte dinner prepared with local ingredients. Day 3 - Caño Negro
We enjoy a final breakfast at Tocu Tent Camp before you depart Caño Negro to continue your journey. You leave with lasting memories – and the knowledge that your stay contributed directly to conservation and sustainability in one of Costa Rica’s most precious ecosystems.
