Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Warsaw
We begin with a panoramic tour of Warsaw – a political and economic hub that blends striking modern architecture with painstakingly restored heritage. We stroll through the Old Town with the Royal Palace and cobbled streets, rebuilt after the Second World War and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We visit the Palace of Culture, reflect on the history of what was once Europe’s largest Jewish ghetto, and wander through Lazienki Park to see the Chopin Monument. You have the afternoon free to visit museums such as the National Museum and the Warsaw Rising Museum, or to explore the lively city centre.
Day 3 - Warsaw - Olsztyn - Elblag Canal - Malbork - Gdansk
After breakfast we head north. Our first stop is Olsztynek to visit the open–air Museum of Folk Architecture (admission included), where wooden houses, old mills and a traditional church evoke another era. We continue to the Elblag Canal to see the museum in the area where boats are hauled over land on rails to overcome elevation changes. We then go to Malbork to visit its vast brick castle (admission included – green route), one of Europe’s largest medieval fortresses and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We arrive in Gdansk in the evening – the historic centre is lively and you can enjoy an evening stroll.
Day 4 - Gdansk - Sopot - Ferry Sopot Karlskrona
After breakfast we visit the European Solidarity Centre, a striking contemporary space commemorating the Solidarity movement, with the monument to the fallen workers a highlight. We also include admission to the Museum of the Second World War, an impressive institution opened in 2017 that powerfully evokes the conflict’s impact in Poland. There is time to explore the historic centre before we continue to Sopot, a Baltic seaside resort with a long sandy beach and one of Europe’s longest wooden piers for sweeping sea views. In the evening we board a modern cruise–style ferry for Sweden – scheduled departure 07:30 p.m. – with overnight cabin accommodation and breakfast included.
Day 5 - Ferry Sopot Karlskrona - Vastervik - Stockholm
After a smooth crossing our ferry reaches Karlskrona in southern Sweden around 06:30 a.m. We continue towards Stockholm, pausing in Vastervik, a charming seaside town with a picturesque historic centre. In the afternoon we arrive in Stockholm, a capital spread across fourteen Baltic islands linked by bridges and ferries, renowned for its history, elegant architecture and blend of modernity and tradition. The afternoon is yours – we suggest a stroll through the historic centre and time for museums and parks.
Day 6 - Stockholm
Today we set out on a panoramic tour of this beautiful capital built on fourteen interconnected islands. We explore Gamla Stan – the ‘city between bridges’ – with monumental buildings such as the Nobel Prize Museum by Stortorget, the Cathedral and the Royal Palace. Whenever possible we pause at the Fjallgatan viewpoint for superb city views. Afterwards you have leisure time to explore – you may wish to visit museums and parks, or optionally the City Hall and the Vasa Museum.
Day 7 - Stockholm - Stockholm - Turku Ferry
You have a free day in Stockholm. In the evening we board a modern ferry for an overnight journey to Finland, with accommodation in double en–suite cabins.
Day 8 - Stockholm - Turku Ferry - Naantali - Helsinki
As we near Finland, we suggest you head to the deck at sunrise to enjoy the scenery as we pass the Aland Islands, an archipelago of hundreds of forested isles. After disembarking you have time to explore Turku, a city with a strong Swedish influence. We then continue to nearby Naantali, a picturesque town of wooden houses by the sea, before travelling on to Helsinki. After lunch we take a regular public ferry to the Suomenlinna Islands to discover the impressive fortress guarding the city’s maritime approach – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You have time to wander this unique group of islands, linked by small pedestrian bridges, and enjoy the atmosphere, fortress walls and magnificent Baltic views. We then return to Helsinki by boat and transfer to the hotel.
Day 9 - Helsinki - Helsinki - Tallinn Ferry - Tallinn
You have a free morning in Finland’s capital to seek out some of the most charming corners of this modern seaside city. In the afternoon we take a ferry to Estonia, a journey of about 2 hours 30 minutes – we recommend admiring the views of Helsinki and the surrounding islands as we depart. We arrive in Tallinn.
Day 10 - Tallinn
Estonia’s capital has preserved its medieval core in remarkable condition. We take a panoramic tour of the city – its walls, churches, squares and atmospheric streets. You have the afternoon free.
Day 11 - Tallinn - Parnu - Turaida - Sigulda - Salaspils - Riga
We travel through forests and plains to reach Parnu, a popular seaside resort, before continuing into Latvia. We include lunch, then we visit medieval Turaida Castle (admission included), set in a large park with sculptures. Next, you can take a walk in Sigulda, a small and charming town in beautiful surroundings. We continue towards Riga with a stop at the Salaspils Memorial, on the site of a former concentration camp from the Nazi period and, since 1967, one of Europe’s largest monumental complexes. We arrive in Riga in the evening.
Day 12 - Riga
We take you on an included panoramic tour of Riga, the most populous city in the Baltic states, where traces of the Soviet era are still visible. Riga is renowned for its cultural life, its medieval historic centre and exceptional Art Nouveau architecture. The afternoon is free for you to explore at your own pace.
Day 13 - Riga - Rundale - Vilnius
We depart early for Lithuania. En route we visit Baroque Rundale Palace, designed by the same architect who created Saint Petersburg’s Hermitage Museum. We cross into Lithuania, a country with a strong Catholic tradition highlighted by the Hill of Crosses, where thousands of crosses of all sizes rise together. Lunch is included along the way. Afterwards we visit Trakai, a gorgeous castle set on an island in a lake near Vilnius. We finish the day in Vilnius. Note: depending on daylight hours, the visit to Trakai may take place on Wednesday after exploring the city.
Day 14 - Vilnius
We begin with a panoramic tour of a city built on seven hills and often compared to Rome. We explore its Baroque churches, historic walls, grand castle, bustling commercial streets in the centre and 1,200 medieval houses. You have free time in the afternoon to explore as you wish.
Day 15 - Vilnius - Grutas Park - Augustów - Warsaw
We continue into Poland. Our first stop is Grutas Park, also known as ‘Stalin’s World’, which displays 86 statues from the Soviet era. We then pause for lunch in the lakeside town of Augustów before heading to central Poland, arriving in Warsaw by the end of the day. Our journey concludes – please check your flight time in case you require an additional night.
