Itinerary
Day 1 - Tromso
Arrive in Tromso, the Arctic Capital! Collect your rental car at the airport and drive to your central hotel. A hub for adventurers since the 19th century, Tromso has a rich history of Arctic exploration and hunting. Situated at 69 degrees north, 320 km above the Arctic Circle, it boasts stunning mountain landscapes and crystal-clear waters. With some of the highest Northern Lights activity on Earth, it’s an ideal spot to witness this breathtaking natural display.
Day 2 - Explore Tromso
You’ll have a full day to explore Tromso at your own pace or join one of our optional activities, including a snowmobile adventure, husky and reindeer safari, or a Northern Lights cruise. Located about 2,000 km from the North Pole, Tromso is a hub for research, education, and commerce in the High North. It also boasts a vibrant cultural scene and renowned cuisine blending fish, game, and international spices. The friendly, English-speaking locals are proud of their city and eager to share what makes it special!
Day 3 - Lyngen Alps to Alta
Tromso - Breivikeidet - Alta. Departing from Tromso, journey through the stunning Lyngen Alps, where towering peaks plunge into the Arctic Ocean, creating a breathtaking landscape. These snow-covered summits remain magical year-round and attract off-piste skiers in winter. Take a ferry from Breivikeidet to Svensby, then another from Lyngseidet to Olderdalen, before driving along the scenic Lyngenfjord. Arrive in Alta by afternoon, where a visit to the Museum of Rock Carvings is a must—one of the world's most significant prehistoric sites, offering insight into ancient rock art and the region’s changing landscape.
Day 4 - Ice Hotel and the Rock Carvings Museum
Alta - Honningsvag. Begin your day with a visit to Alta's Ice Hotel, Sorrisniva, where entry is included. This stunning structure, rebuilt annually, is crafted entirely from snow and ice, with sculpted furniture, murals, and even a bar. The breathtaking design adds a magical touch, and you can enjoy a refreshing drink at the Ice Bar before heading north. Journey through Finnmark, following the scenic Porsanger Fjord, to reach Honningsvag at Norway’s northernmost point.
Day 5 - The North Cape
Honningsvag - Skarsvag - Honningsvag. Meet at 11:00 at Skarsvag junction, about 10 km from the North Cape. Due to heavy snow, travel is only possible by convoy, escorted by a snowplow. Standing at mainland Europe’s northernmost point, you’ll find a restaurant, a small museum, and a chapel. In summer, the midnight sun shines above the horizon, while winter offers a breathtaking view of the vast Arctic landscape. Return by convoy at 13:00 to Honningsvag for a well-deserved break.
Day 6 - Snowy Landscapes
Honningsvag - Hammerfest - Tromso. In the morning, drive to Hammerfest through snow-covered landscapes, where you may spot herds of reindeer. Board the Hurtigruten boat, a coastal express that runs daily between Bergen and Kirkenes, taking you back to your starting point. Enjoy the journey as you admire the coastline and fjords from the open sea, and step out on deck after dark for a chance to witness the Northern Lights. With no light pollution, the Aurora’s reflection on the water offers a unique and breathtaking view. Arrive in Tromso late at night and head to your hotel.
Day 7 - Tromso
If time allows, take a last stroll around the city or hurry to buy some last-minute souvenirs. Return your rental car at Tromso Airport and continue with your travels or make your way home.

Additional Extras
Enhance your tour with these optional extras, helping you to get the most from your adventure.
Aurora Safari by minibus
While you wait for Lady Aurora to appear, your Northern Lights guide will entertain you with stories about this impressive natural phenomenon and life in the Arctic. Weather permitting, the guide will make a bonfire to keep you warm (thermal suits are also provided). Hot drinks, a light hot meal (simple expedition food), and local snack will be served. Wondering how to take photos of Northern Lights with your own camera? Just ask your guide and they will help you with the settings and lend you a tripod. Approx 5 - 7 hours.
Snowmobiling evening
Enjoy an unforgettable snowmobile safari through magical snow-covered mountains, dramatic landscapes and scenic valleys. Learn how to drive “the scooter of the north” in a snowy wilderness playground. Experience the spectacular fun at our wilderness center, Camp Tamok. For this tour you will be picked up from the city center in Tromsø, from where you will be taken to Camp Tamok, a 90-minute scenic bus drive away. Upon arrival, you will be provided with warm clothes and other required gear for this snowmobiling activity. After this, we will go through the safety instructions and give you a practical demonstration on how to drive your own snowmobile. You will drive in pairs, one driver and one passenger, on each snowmobile with the opportunity to switch places during the trip. After driving back down the trail and parking the snowmobiles, we will serve you a hot meal in a traditional North Norwegian setting around the open fire in a reindeer herder’s tent. During peak season, we might split the group to avoid large groups. Half of the group will start with the hot meal in the traditional North Norwegian setting before heading out to the mountains on the snowmobiles. After relaxing and warming up, it is time to head back to Tromsø. You must have a valid driver’s license – class B – to be allowed to drive the snowmobile.
Husky Safari
Enjoy the arctic coastal nature with breathtaking views of Tromsø! You will evolve in a magnificent setting surrounded by white mountains and long fjords. After about an hour of sledding we return to the farm where you can check out our puppies and maybe make some four legged friends. You will taste a typical Sami dish (bidos) with coffee and cake for dessert in a Sami tent (lavvo). Possibility to drive your own sled. Approx 4 hours.
Daytime Snowmobile safari in Tromso (Driving in Pairs)
Upon arrival at Camp Tamok, you dress in warm winter gear and begin the adventure with thorough safety instructions and a practical demonstration. It is then time to follow the 11 km snowmobile ice fishing track that leads you between the snow-covered mountains up to a frozen lake. Lake Finn marks the halfway point of the snowmobiling adventure and is a good place to take photos, play in the snow, drive faster and, if weather conditions permit, try some ice fishing. You will drive in pairs with one driver and one passenger per snowmobile and plenty of opportunities to switch places during the two-hour snowmobiling adventure. 4 hours and 30 minutes.
Sami & Reindeer Experience in Tromso
The reindeer sleigh is the oldest form of transportation in the north and an inherent part of Sami culture. You will be in pairs by sled, with one sled for each reindeer. People of all ages can participate in this easy adventure. This cultural experience will also teach you about lasso throwing, which is always the Sami way of catching their reindeer to herd them together before tagging or slaughter. In addition, you will get to know Sami culture and history, and experience the emotional Lappish ancestral joik song. To conclude this excursion, you will be served a hot meal. 4 hours.
