Itinerary
Day 1 - Arrival in Chengdu
On arrival in Chengdu, we are met by our local guide and driver before transferring to the hotel - a journey of around 40 minutes. The remainder of the day is at leisure, giving you time to rest after your journey or begin exploring the city at your own pace.
Day 2 - Chengdu to Dujiangyan
Chengdu - Dujiangyan - Chengdu. After breakfast at the hotel, we are collected from the lobby and drive to Dujiangyan. Our first visit is to the Dujiangyan Giant Panda Base, one of three major centres dedicated to rescuing and breeding the endangered giant panda, managed by the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda. Located around 60 kilometres from Chengdu, this is the closest panda base to the city and plays a key role in conservation, research and monitoring wild panda populations.
In the afternoon, we visit the Dujiangyan Irrigation System, built over 2,200 years ago and still in use today. This remarkable engineering achievement is the world’s oldest functioning water-control project and the only ancient irrigation system built without a dam. Often described as the ‘father of world hydrology engineering’, it continues to protect the Chengdu Plain from floods and droughts. Together with the nearby Qingcheng Mountains, it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000.
We then drive back to downtown Chengdu and transfer to the hotel.
Please note: The Dujiangyan Panda Base will be closed for renovation and upgrades from 23 April 2026 until further notice. Your itinerary may instead include a visit to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. All other arrangements remain the same.
Day 3 - Chengdu to Leshan
Chengdu - Leishan - Chengdu. Following breakfast, we are picked up from the hotel and drive to Leshan. Here, we visit the Leshan Giant Buddha, the largest stone Buddha statue in the world. Standing 70 metres tall, this serene figure has a head measuring 15 metres high, a nose six metres long and fingers three metres in length.
Carved during the Tang Dynasty, the statue represents Maitreya, the future Buddha, and was created to calm the turbulent rivers below. It remains an important pilgrimage site and cultural landmark.
Boat trip on the Minjiang River is not included.
On our return journey to Chengdu, we stop at Huanglongxi Ancient Town, known for its traditional architecture, old streets and riverside setting, offering a glimpse into historic Sichuan life.
We then transfer back to the hotel
Day 4 - Departure
After breakfast, the morning is at leisure until we transfer to the airport or railway station for onward departure.
