Itinerary

Day 1

Reykjavik

Reykjavik. Welcome to Iceland and the start of your Northern Lights adventure! Your transfer to your accommodation is by Flybus shuttle. The remainder of the day is at leisure.
Overnight: Reykjavik

Day 2

Blue Lagoon

Reykjavik - Reykjanes Peninsula - Blue Lagoon - Hella. This morning you meet your tour guide who shows the group some of the highlights of Iceland's capital. Then we head out to the Reykjanes peninsula, famous for hot springs, picturesque mountains, bird cliffs, light houses and quaint fishing villages. Later on we get to relax in the warm blue waters of the famous Blue Lagoon.

This evening, we hear all about the Northern Lights and once darkness falls we head into the garden to wait for this beautiful natural phenomena to appear.
Overnight: Hella  |  Breakfast

Day 3

Glaciers & Waterfalls

Hella - Eyjafjallajokull - Skogafoss - Black Lava Beach - Hella. Today we travel along the south coast and visit the active volcano beneath the Eyjafjallajökull glacier. We travel on to the high but narrow Seljalandsfoss waterfall, which plunges down from the mountain, and then visit the Skógar folk museum, which contains an outstanding collection of farm and domestic artefacts. Nearby is one of the most impressive waterfalls in the country; the 60-metre high Skógafoss waterfall.

This afternoon there's the option to take a glacier hike on the Solheimajokull glacier and explore a wonderland of ice sculptures, water cauldrons, ridges and deep crevasses on the breath-taking glacier. Please see the trip notes for more details. For those that do not go on the glacier hike, the tour continues further south where you can stroll on the black lava beach to see the amazing bird cliffs at Reynisfjara near Vík.

This evening we have another presentation about the Northern Lights and if the night is clear, we might be lucky enough to see the Northern Lights swirling in a wild and carefree dance across the sky in dramatic shapes, colours, patterns and sizes. The grounds of Arhus cottages are very large and dark offering you a great location for Northern Lights searching if the weather conditions are right.
Overnight: Hella  |  Breakfast

Day 4

Golden Circle

Hella - Golden Circle - Reykjavik. This morning we learn about the indigenous Icelandic horse and its history and special qualities. We also visit a geothermal greenhouse seeing steam from the Geysir geothermal fields as you arrive. There's a variety of hot springs and bubbling pools. The original geyser is now dormant but has been replaced by Strokkur "the Churn" which erupts at 5-10 minute intervals.

Continuing on to Gullfoss "the golden falls", a double waterfall that tumbles 34 metres into the Hvita River. Next we travel inland to Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site before returning to Reykjavik for one night. An optional Northern Lights evening cruise can be booked on the spot, if the weather conditions are ideal.
Overnight: Reykjavik  |  Breakfast

The tour was excellent and a good pace. Antoine was awesome. Very knowledgeable and great sense of humour. We had a great time and saw a lot in a short time. I can't imagine a better, funnier guide.

Our tour guide was VERY knowledgeable and passionate about Iceland, her history, culture, geology and geography. A font of information. He’s s very pleasant and enjoyable man who kept our tour group organised and on time. One of the most enjoyable tour guides we’ve had.

I can't remember Eric's last name but he was amazing! I called him Count Eric because he was always making sure everyone was on the bus. I can now count at least to 12 in Icelandic.

He knew so much about the history, geology etc and I think he really enjoyed telling us about Iceland.. He was pleasant and knowledgeable. Once we upgraded to a superior room all was great at the Hotel Cabin. I think that should be highlighted more as an option. The staff were extremely helpful and patient with all our "tourist" inquiries

The food at Arhus was actually very good and the young lady that served us was very efficient. The lodging was spartan as we knew it would be but looked at it like an adventure. The only real complaint would be that our cold water didn't work in our shower making it impossible to take a shower because of the heat of the geothermal hot water.

I enjoyed Iceland I would have preferred a little more time on the city tour of Reykjavik. The rest of the tour was great. Our guide very knowledgeable and passionate about the country and highlighted a lot of information. The shout of ‘aurora’ from our guide just was the icing on the cake! I didn’t think I would love Iceland this much but I want to explore more and become an aurora hunter now.

The sites chosen to visit were excellent, I felt that the itinerary provided a good sampling of Iceland, and hit some major attractions. The time spent at each stop was usually adequate. Thank you for a good trip.

Very interesting tour guide, lots of little titbits of information, felt very safe with the coach driver. Everything was well timed, excellent places to eat out, enjoyed the Blue Lagoon. We didn't see the Northern Lights unfortunately but we understand that these do not always appear. We had a lovely time. The log cabins at Hella were beautiful, we felt like we were in a fairtytale!

The tour was full on right from the start, no time to relax,Brilliant. It is obvious right from the start that both our safety and enjoyment were the main priorities. Simone was exceptional in her knowledge and this was shared with us throughout, as were any decisions as to why we were changing itinerary. I must also mention Gunner our driver, these are the unsung heroes on any tour, The conditions on some of the roads where a white out but at no time did we feel unsafe. He also well went that extra mile to ensure we saw all the sights safely.
