Welcome to Iceland! Your adventure begins. Once you're transferred from the airport to your hotel via Flybus transfer, the rest of the day is yours to explore!
Reykjavik - Reykjanes Peninsula - Blue Lagoon - Hella. Our morning starts with a brief orientation tour of Reykjavik, Iceland's charming capital - we'll enjoy a more comprehensive sightseeing tour later in the trip! From Reykjavik, we'll head out of the city to the breath-taking Reykjanes Peninsula. Think quaint fishing villages, hot springs, and striking mountains. Now, we're headed for Hella, but not without a rejuvenating stop at the Blue Lagoon.
Don't worry, we'll reach our accommodation before darkness falls. And once it does, we'll head out to the garden and wait for the Northern Lights to appear.
Hella - Eyjafjallajokull - Skogafoss - Hella. Today is about the sheer force of nature's power - what makes Iceland, Iceland. The rumbling volcano of the Eyjafjallajökull glacier. The plunging Seljalandsfoss and thundering Skógafoss waterfalls. We also visit the Skogar Folk Museum. Later, there's an optional hike on the shimmering Solheimajokull glacier where you can take in the enchanting icy scenery.
Please note: this optional hike must be booked in advance. Contact us to book.
If you didn’t book the glacier hike, the tour continues further south where we can stroll on the black lava beach and see the amazing bird cliffs at Reynisfjara near Vík.
We'll be back in Hella before it gets dark. It's our second chance to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights - keep your eyes peeled!
Hella - Golden Circle - Reykjavik. This morning, we'll start the journey back to Reykjavik via the breath-taking Golden Circle. Our first stop is at a local horse stable to meet these famously strong creatures. We then visit a geothermal greenhouse, where you'll see how the power of nature is harnessed to grow crops in an inhospitable environment.
Then it's time to take in some of the country's best natural wonders. We'll see bubbling hot springs and geysers at the Geysir geothermal area. Its famous Strokkur geyser erupts every 10 minutes - don't miss it!
Further inland, we'll see the mighty Gullfoss waterfall and head through the rugged Thingvellir National Park. This once-in-a-lifetime drive ends in Reykjavik. Once you're checked in, your evening is free for you to explore or join an optional evening cruise to spot the Northern Lights from the water.
Please note: Some members of the group may be finishing their tour back in Reykjavik, and not continuing with us to the Westfjords.
Today is completely free for you to head out and explore. Perhaps book a whale watching cruise, explore the Old Harbour area or go for a wander down Laugavegur, one of the main streets in the city.
Reykjavik - Grabrok - Budardalur - Isafjördur. Today, our journey begins in the west. Our first stop leads us to Grabrok, a 3,400-year-old volcanic crater offering a 360-degree view of the valley.
After a break for lunch in the coastal town of Budardalur, we'll then trace the scenic fjords of Isafjardardjup. Keep your eyes peeled for spectacular views with the chance of encountering majestic whales.
Our adventure continues to Litlibaer, a rare turf house transformed into a quaint café and museum. Enjoy homemade waffles and coffee, overlooking the fjord and sea.
Afterwards, head for Isafjördur, our home for the next three nights. In the evening, we'll embark on a quest to chase the mesmerizing Northern Lights.
Isafjördur - Dynjandi - Isafjördur. Today we'll explore the Dynjandi waterfall, celebrated as one of Iceland's most magnificent. Its tiered structure creates a mesmerizing array of small cascades.
Continuing along the coastline and fjords, the journey leads to the pier of Önundarfjordur, extending gracefully into the water from a stunning golden beach.
Following a nature walk, we tuck into a delicious meal to recharge. Afterwards, explore the enchanting town of Isafjördur, where vibrant houses adorn cobblestone streets. As night falls, we venture outdoors seeking another glimpse of the awe-inspiring Northern Lights.
Isafjördur - Sudureyri - Flateyri - Isafjördur. The morning unfolds at the Osvör Maritime Museum, where a restored fishing hut invites visitors to step into the past, delving into the 19th-century life of rowboat fishing.
Exploring the village of Flateyri, a hidden gem awaits at the historic Gamla bokabudin, "The Old Bookstore," operating since 1914. At this charming store, enjoy browsing for unique souvenirs that showcase traditional Icelandic design. Back in Isafjördur, this evening we go for a stroll in search of the Northern Lights.
Isafjördur - Holmavik - Breidafjördur. Today, we'll head to the picturesque village of Hólmavík, to explore the Museum of Icelandic Sorcery and Witchcraft. Here, captivating tales of Iceland's mystical history unfold. Delve into folklore and explore an array of artefacts.
The day concludes in West Iceland, in a tranquil location nestled near the remarkable Breidafjördur Bay. The remote area is ideal for Northern Lights hunting, so don't go to bed too early!
Breidafjördur - Borganes - Reykjavik. As our journey draws to a close, we venture back to Reykjavík, with a few stops along the way.
We'll head to Borganes, making a stop at the Settlement Centre. Delve into the challenging and riveting early days of human settlement in Iceland through a comprehensive exhibition spanning a warehouse, merchant house, and reception hall.
In the afternoon, we'll return to Reykjavík and explore the city's vibrant history further. Stops include the iconic Hallgrimskirkja church, the esteemed University campus, and Reykjavík's picturesque harbour.
Our day concludes at the Icelandic Bar, where you can opt to try the infamous fermented shark and raise a toast with Brennivín, celebrating the unforgettable memories you made during the trip.
Our Icelandic adventure comes to an end after breakfast. Individual transfer by Flybus shuttle from your accommodation in Reykjavik to Keflavik airport is included.
