Itinerary

Day 1 - Bergen

Welcome to Norway and the beautiful city of Bergen, gateway to the fjords. On arrival, collect your rental vehicle and then make your way to tonight's hotel. You're heading off tomorrow, so if you've got time to go and explore UNESCO-listed Bryggen today or tomorrow morning, then we recommend you do so!

Day 2 - Bergen to Balestrand

Bergen - Balestrand. You've got a bit more free time this morning before you hop in your rental car and make your way to Balestrand and the Sognefjord. The Sognefjord is Norway's longest fjord, often referred to as the "King". In terms of views, it doesn't get much better than this. Have a drive around, or park up and take a wander around Balestrand, it's up to you.

Day 3 - Balestrand at Leisure

Today is completely free for you to further explore the Sognefjord, in Balestrand or further afield, making use of your rental car. If travelling between June and September, we also offer an optional round trip to Fjaerland today. Travelling by boat, you will enjoy vistas of the fjord and surrounding mountains before reaching Fjaerland, where the glacier meets the fjord. A shuttle bus will then take you to visit the Norwegian Glacier Museum before heading to see the Supphellebreen and Boyabreen glaciers. You'll then retrace your steps by coach and boat to Balestrand.

Day 4 - The Sunnfjord

Balestrand - Skei. Leaving Balestrand, continue your scenic drive to the village of Skei, in the Sunnfjord region of Norway. This area is ripe for outdoor activities, with hiking, fishing and kayaking all possible. On arrival at tonight's hotel, the rest of the day is free for you to explore.

Day 5 - Naeroyfjord Cruise & Optional Flamsbana

Skei - Flam - Ulvik. Leaving the Sunnfjord behind, make your way to Flam, where you'll embark on an included cruise on the Naeroyfjord. An included bus ticket will then take you back to Flam.

You've got the option to ride the Flamsbana narrow gauge railway too; a return trip from Flam to Myrdal sees you traverse one of the world's steepest railway lines, passing through incredible mountain scenery, 20 tunnels and cascading waterfalls. It's unmissable, and we strongly recommend you add this to your tour package!

Your hotel for the night is booked in Ulvik, on the Hardangerfjord, another of Norway's most beautiful fjords.

Day 6 - Exploring Ulvik

Spend today exploring the picturesque village of Ulvik, which is surrounded by towering mountains and greenery. You can choose to stay in the village of get into your rental car for some exploring of the Hardangerfjord - one of Norway's most famous waterfalls, Voringsfossen, is nearby, or you could visit the Hardanger Folk Museum for a dose of culture. There are plenty of great hiking trails in the area too.

Day 7 - Back to Bergen

Ulvik - Bergen. After breakfast and hotel check out, you can make your way back to Bergen at your own pace. If there's anywhere you'd like to visit on the way back then you're at leisure to do so. Spend your final night in Bergen doing any final souvenir shopping or exploring any sights you missed at the start of the tour.

Day 8 - Bergen

Your tour comes to an end today. Tuck into a final breakfast before hotel check out, and then make your way to the airport to drop off your rental car. From there, head to Departures for your onward flight. Safe travels!

Fjord and Glacier Tour from Balestrand

This scenic boat tour takes you from Balestrand through the breathtaking Fjærlandsfjord to Fjærland, where steep, forested mountains lead to the edge of the majestic Jostedalen Glacier. Along the way, enjoy the tranquil fjord scenery, spot diverse wildlife—including over 100 bird species in the Bøyaøyri Nature Reserve—and purchase lunch, snacks, or drinks on board. Upon arrival, a bus takes you to the interactive Norwegian Glacier Museum, where you’ll learn about glaciers and climate in an engaging way. The journey continues to Bøyabreen, a striking arm of the Jostedalsbreen Glacier, where you can capture stunning photos of the ice pressing into the landscape. Returning by bus to Fjærland quay, the boat ride back to Balestrand offers a final chance to reflect on how these spectacular fjords were shaped by ice thousands of years ago.

Flamsbana return ticket

Experience one of the world’s most scenic railway journeys with a round-trip ticket on the legendary Flåmsbana. This spectacular train ride takes you from the charming village of Flåm, nestled at the end of Aurlandsfjord, to Myrdal, a remote mountain station on the Bergen Line. As the train climbs nearly 870 metres in just 20 kilometres, you’ll pass dramatic waterfalls, deep valleys, and snow-capped peaks, with breathtaking views at every turn. Along the way, the train makes a short stop at the stunning Kjosfossen waterfall, where you can step out to take photos. At Myrdal, you’ll have time to soak in the high-mountain scenery before boarding the train for the return journey, offering another chance to marvel at the landscapes of Norway’s wild and rugged fjord country.
