
Crete Exploration Journey
Head off on an 8-day tour of Crete, starting and ending in Heraklion. Sail across Mirabello Bay to Spinalonga, one of the world's last leper colonies, before swimming in the clear waters of Kolokytha Bay. Next comes Knossos, the legendary centre of Minoan civilisation, followed by a walk through Heraklion's Venetian Harbour and Old Town. From here, the trip heads west to the Venetian streets of Chania and Rethymnon, with a stop at Lake Kournas in between. A Land Rover safari then follows an ancient Minoan route into the mountains. There's a visit to a local shepherd and early views over the Lassithi Plateau, and the tour then ends back in Heraklion.

Day 1 - Arrival in Crete – Airport Transfer & Leisure Time

On arrival at Heraklion Airport, you are directed to the bus for the drive of around 22 km (roughly 30 minutes) to your accommodation. It's in the Hersonissos area, which takes in Kokkini Hani, Gournes, Gouves and Stalida. Once you have checked in, the rest of the day is free to explore the delightful surroundings on your own, and dinner this evening is included.
Day 2 - Spinalonga and Kolokytha Bay

After breakfast, you are picked up from your accommodation for a full-day excursion that brings together the natural beauty, history and seaside charm of eastern Crete. It covers around 130 km over 9 to 11 hours.
You begin in Agios Nikolaos, where you board a boat and set sail across the beautiful waters of Mirabello Bay. You cruise towards the historic island of Spinalonga, taking in the scenic coastline and crystal-clear water on the way. Once ashore, a guided tour leads you through the fascinating remains of one of the world's last leper colonies. It reveals the history and stories behind this remarkable Venetian fortress and former settlement.
The cruise then carries on to Kolokytha Bay for a swim in its crystal-clear waters, followed by lunch on board by the beach. The excursion wraps up with a visit to Agios Nikolaos, including picturesque Lake Voulismeni, before you head back to your accommodation.
Please note: The entrance fee for the Spinalonga archaeological site is not included and costs 20 euros per person, payable locally.
Day 3 - Knossos and Heraklion

This morning, after breakfast, you set off for Heraklion, the capital of Crete and a city with deep roots in history and culture. The day covers around 42 km over 7 to 9 hours. First comes Knossos, the legendary centre of Minoan civilisation and one of the island's most important archaeological sites. Here you can discover the remains of the ancient palace and learn about the fascinating story of the Minoan world, whose origins go back more than 5,000 years.
Continuing into Heraklion city centre, a guided walking tour takes you through the historic heart of the city. Along its lively streets you discover landmarks such as the Venetian Harbour and the atmospheric Old Town.
You also have the chance to visit the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion on your own. It holds an exceptional collection tracing the history of Crete. Alternatively, you can explore the city's old market and enjoy some free time. After the tour, you return to your accommodation.

Day 4 - Full-Day Tour to Chania & Rethymnon

Today, after breakfast, you set out to discover the western side of Crete and three of the island's most distinctive destinations. It's a long day of around 326 km and 11 to 13 hours.
First up is Chania, one of Crete's most charming towns, known for its picturesque streets, Venetian architecture and atmospheric old harbour. A walk through the historic centre shows you the unique character of this beautiful waterfront town.
Next is Lake Kournas, Crete's largest natural freshwater lake, set in a peaceful landscape of mountains and lush Cretan nature. There is time to enjoy the scenery and relax by the water, and pedal boats can be hired locally at an additional cost.
The day continues to Rethymnon, where you explore the historic town and follow its picturesque streets towards the old port. Along the way you discover the distinctive blend of Venetian and local architecture that gives the town its unique character. After a full day exploring some of western Crete's most beautiful and historic places, you return to your accommodation.
Day 5 - Land Rover Safari & Minoan Route Exploration

The day starts after breakfast with a Land Rover safari along a Minoan route through the central landscapes of Crete, covering around 120 km over 7 to 8 hours. It combines mountain scenery, traditional villages and local flavours with fascinating glimpses into the island's history and rural way of life.
Your first stop is Aposelemis Dam, where you can see the remarkable remains of the submerged village of Sfendili. From here, you travel through the countryside along paths surrounded by olive trees to the ancient ruins of Lyttos and the remains of its Roman aqueduct. The traditional village of Kastamonitsa comes next, with the chance to try local flavours at a tasting of raki and Cretan olive oil.
The adventure then heads into the mountains, following an ancient Minoan route through the rugged Cretan landscape. Along the way, you meet a local shepherd to see the animals and taste homemade cheese. You then continue to a spectacular mountain viewpoint overlooking the ancient Minoan path, where you get your first views of the Lassithi Plateau with its characteristic farms and windmills.
After taking in the mountain scenery, you sit down to a traditional lunch with unlimited wine, then carry on to the picturesque village of Krasi. This final stop is famous for its impressive ancient plane tree and natural spring, a peaceful setting to end your journey through the heart of Crete.
Day 6 - Crete at Leisure

You can start the day with breakfast at your accommodation before a relaxing free day. Take time to unwind on the beach, make the most of the accommodation's facilities, or head out and explore the island independently.
Day 7 - Free Day in Crete

In the morning, enjoy a leisurely breakfast at your accommodation before a day that is entirely yours. Relax by the sea, take a refreshing swim, or venture out to discover the nearby villages, coastal scenery and local atmosphere, and enjoy Crete exactly as you wish.
Day 8 - Departure from Crete – Transfer to Airport

After breakfast, we provide a shared transfer from your hotel to the airport to continue your onward travel arrangements. Breakfast is included.
