Itinerary
Day 1 - Warsaw
Welcome to your tour. We’ll arrange your transfer to the hotel and you’ll have free time to settle in. In the afternoon you’ll receive practical information – either in person or via the notice board at hotel reception.
Day 2 - Warsaw
We’ll begin with a panoramic tour of Warsaw with a local guide. Home to nearly two million people, this political and economic hub blends striking modern architecture with carefully reconstructed historic quarters. We’ll stroll through the charming Old Town – with the Royal Palace and cobbled streets rebuilt after the Second World War and now a World Heritage Site – visit the Palace of Culture, reflect on the history of what was once Europe’s largest Jewish ghetto, and wander through Łazienki Park to see the Chopin Monument. In the afternoon you’ll have free time – perhaps visit the National Museum or the Warsaw Rising Museum, or simply explore the lively city centre.
Day 3 - Warsaw - Olsztyn - Elblag Canal - Malbork - Gdansk
After breakfast we’ll head north into Poland. Our first stop is Olsztynek to visit the open–air Museum of Folk Architecture (admission included), where wooden houses, old mills and a traditional church evoke a bygone era. We’ll continue to the Elbląg Canal, the country’s longest navigable canal, to visit the small museum at the site where boats are hauled overland on rails to negotiate changes in elevation. Next we’ll travel to Malbork to tour its vast castle (admission included – green route), a 13th–century stronghold of the Teutonic Order and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We’ll reach Gdańsk – formerly Danzig – in the evening. Its historic centre is vibrant and beautiful, and we recommend an evening stroll.
Day 4 - Gdansk - Sopot - Ferry Sopot Karlskrona
After breakfast we’ll visit the European Solidarity Centre, a striking contemporary space that tells the story of the Solidarity movement, including the monument to the fallen workers. We’ll then include admission to the Museum of the Second World War – an evocative museum opened in 2017 that reflects on the estimated three to six million people who lost their lives in Poland during that conflict. After some time to enjoy the historic centre, we’ll continue to Sopot, a charming Baltic resort with a long sandy beach and one of Europe’s longest wooden piers offering superb sea views. In the evening we’ll board a modern ferry for Sweden – scheduled departure is at 07:30 p.m. – with overnight accommodation in cabins and breakfast included.
Day 5 - Ferry Sopot Karlskrona - Vastervik - Stockholm
After a smooth crossing our ferry arrives in Karlskrona in southern Sweden around 06:30 a.m. We’ll continue towards Stockholm, pausing in Västervik, a pretty seaside town with a picturesque historic centre. We’ll reach Stockholm in the afternoon – a beautiful capital spread across fourteen islands, linked by bridges and ferries, where history and contemporary life sit side by side. The rest of the afternoon is yours to enjoy – perhaps take a stroll through the historic centre and dip into its museums and parks.
Day 6 - Stockholm
Today we’ll take a panoramic tour of the capital, built on fourteen interconnected islands. We’ll explore Gamla Stan – the ‘city between bridges’ – with its lively lanes and grand buildings such as the Nobel Prize Museum by Stortorget, the Cathedral and the Royal Palace. Whenever possible we’ll pause at the Fjällgatan viewpoint for sweeping vistas. Afterwards you’ll have leisure time to explore – you can opt to visit the City Hall or the Vasa Museum, or simply relax in the parks.
Day 7 - Stockholm - Stockholm - Turku Ferry
Enjoy a free day in Stockholm to follow your own interests. In the evening we’ll board a modern ferry for an overnight sailing to Finland, with accommodation in double cabins with private facilities.
Day 8 - Stockholm - Turku Ferry - Naantali - Helsinki
As we reach Finland, we recommend heading to the deck at sunrise to savour the landscapes as we pass the forested Åland Islands. After disembarkation you’ll have time to explore Turku, a city with a strong Swedish influence. We’ll then continue to the neighbouring town of Naantali, known for its charming wooden houses by the sea, before travelling on to Helsinki. After lunch we’ll take a regular public ferry to the Suomenlinna Islands to visit the impressive fortress guarding the city’s maritime approach – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You’ll have time to wander this unique archipelago, linked by small pedestrian bridges, and enjoy its atmosphere, ramparts and fine Baltic views. We’ll return to Helsinki by boat and transfer to the hotel.
Day 9 - Helsinki - Helsinki - Tallinn Ferry - Tallinn
Enjoy a free morning in Finland’s capital, where you can uncover some of the most appealing corners of this modern seaside city. In the afternoon we’ll board a ferry to Estonia – a journey of about 2 hours 30 minutes. We recommend taking in the beautiful views of Helsinki and its surrounding islands as we depart. Arrival in Tallinn.
Day 10 - Tallinn
Estonia’s capital is a delight, its medieval core preserved with remarkable integrity. You’ll enjoy a panoramic tour of the city – its walls, churches, squares and atmospheric streets rich in sights. The afternoon is free for you to explore.
Day 11 - Tallinn - Parnu - Turaida - Sigulda - Salaspils - Riga
We’ll travel through forests and plains to reach Pärnu, a popular seaside resort, then continue into Latvia. You can enjoy an included lunch before we visit medieval Turaida Castle (admission included), set within a large park dotted with sculptures. Next, you can take a stroll in Sigulda, a small and charming town set amid lovely scenery. Our route continues towards Riga with a stop at the Salaspils Memorial, located on the site of a former Nazi–period concentration camp and, since 1967, one of Europe’s largest monumental complexes. We’ll arrive in Riga in the evening.
Day 12 - Riga
You’ll enjoy an included panoramic tour of the capital – the most populous city in the Baltic states – where traces of the Soviet era remain. Riga is renowned for its cultural life, its medieval historic centre and superb Art Nouveau architecture. The afternoon is free for you to explore at leisure.
Day 13 - Riga - Rundale - Vilnius
We’ll depart early for Lithuania. En route we’ll visit the Baroque Rundāle Palace, designed by the same architect responsible for St Petersburg’s Hermitage Museum. We’ll cross into Lithuania and pause at the Hill of Crosses, where thousands of crosses of all sizes crowd the slopes. Lunch is included along the way. Afterwards we’ll visit Trakai, a beautiful red–brick castle on an island in a lake near Vilnius, and we’ll end the day in the capital. Note: depending on daylight hours, the visit to Trakai may take place on Wednesday after exploring the city.
Day 14 - Vilnius
We’ll begin with a panoramic tour of Vilnius, a city built on seven hills and often compared to Rome. You’ll discover its Baroque churches, historic walls, imposing castle, bustling commercial streets and some 1,200 medieval houses. Enjoy a free afternoon to explore at your own pace.
Day 15 - Vilnius - Grutas Park - Augustów - Warsaw
We’ll continue our journey into Poland. Our first stop is Grūtas Park – also known as ‘Stalin’s World’ – home to 86 statues from the Soviet era. We’ll then pause for lunch in the lakeside town of Augustów before travelling on to central Poland, arriving in Warsaw by day’s end.
Day 16 - Warsaw
After breakfast our journey comes to an end – we part with wonderful memories.
