You’ll explore waterways and cobbled lanes in Stockholm – then sail overnight past the Åland Islands to Finland for Turku, Naantali and Helsinki, with a ferry to UNESCO listed Suomenlinna. Cross to Tallinn’s medieval old town, continue via Parnu, Sigulda and Turaida Castle to art nouveau Riga. Travel on to Rundale Palace, the moving Hill of Crosses and Trakai before Vilnius. Itinerary
Day 1 - Stockholm
Welcome to Stockholm. We arrange your transfer to the hotel and you’ll have free time to settle in. In the afternoon you’ll receive information about the programme – either in person or via the information board at reception.
Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Stockholm
Today we enjoy a panoramic tour of this beautiful capital built across 14 interlinked islands. We explore Gamla Stan – the 'city between bridges' – with its lively old quarter, the Nobel Prize Museum beside Stortorget, the Cathedral and the Royal Palace. When conditions allow, we take in the views from the Fjällgatan viewpoint. Afterwards you’ll have leisure time to explore – you can visit museums and parks, or opt to see City Hall and the Vasa Museum.
Day 3 - Stockholm - Stockholm - Turku Ferry
You’ll have a free day in Stockholm. In the evening we board a modern ferry for an overnight crossing to Finland, with accommodation in double en suite cabins.
Day 4 - Stockholm - Turku Ferry - Naantali - Helsinki
As we approach Finland, you may wish to step out on deck at sunrise to admire the Åland Islands – hundreds of forested isles. After disembarking we spend time in Turku, then continue to the neighbouring seaside town of Naantali with its charming wooden houses. We travel on to Helsinki and, after lunch, take a regular public ferry to the Suomenlinna Islands – a UNESCO World Heritage Site guarding the city’s maritime approach. You’ll have time to wander among the walls and lanes and enjoy Baltic views before we return to Helsinki by boat and transfer to the hotel.
Day 5 - Helsinki - Helsinki - Tallinn Ferry - Tallinn
Enjoy a free morning in Finland’s capital – you can discover the charming corners of this modern seaside city. In the afternoon we take a ferry to Estonia – a journey of about two and a half hours. Watch Helsinki’s beautiful skyline and the surrounding islands recede as we sail. Arrival in Tallinn.
Day 6 - Tallinn
Tallinn has preserved its medieval heart. We take a panoramic tour of the city – its walls, churches, squares and cobbled streets rich in sights. The afternoon is free for you to explore.
Day 7 - Tallinn - Parnu - Turaida - Sigulda - Salaspils - Riga
We travel through forests and plains to Parnu, a popular seaside resort, then continue into Latvia. After an included lunch we visit medieval Turaida Castle (admission included), set within a large park dotted with sculptures. Next, we enjoy a walk in Sigulda, a small and charming town amid beautiful landscapes. Our journey continues to Riga, with a stop at the Salaspils Memorial on the site of a former concentration camp from the Nazi period – since 1967 one of Europe’s largest monumental complexes commemorating the regime’s victims. We arrive in Riga in the evening.
Day 8 - Riga
We enjoy an included panoramic tour of Riga, the most populous city in the Baltic states, where traces of the Soviet era remain. Renowned for its cultural centre, medieval historic core and superb Art Nouveau architecture, the city invites exploration. The afternoon is free for you to discover at your leisure.
Day 9 - Riga - Rundale - Vilnius
We depart early for Lithuania, stopping to visit the Baroque Palace of Rundale, designed by the same architect as Saint Petersburg’s Hermitage Museum. We cross into Lithuania, a country with a strong Catholic tradition highlighted by the moving Hill of Crosses, where thousands of crosses of all sizes stand. Lunch is included en route. Afterwards we visit Trakai, a beautiful castle on an island in a lake near Vilnius, and finish the day in the capital. Note: depending on daylight, the visit to Trakai may take place on Wednesday after exploring the city.
Day 10 - Vilnius
We begin with a panoramic tour of Vilnius – a city built on seven hills and often compared to Rome. We discover its Baroque churches, historic walls, grand castle and lively central streets, along with around 1,200 medieval houses. The afternoon is free for you to explore.
Day 11 - Vilnius - Grutas Park - Augustów - Warsaw
We continue into Poland. Our first stop is Grutas Park – Stalin’s World – displaying 86 statues from the Soviet era. We then pause for lunch in the charming lakeside town of Augustów before heading across central Poland to reach Warsaw by day’s end.
Day 12 - Warsaw - Poznan
In the morning we take a panoramic tour of Warsaw with a local guide. This city of nearly two million people – Poland’s political and economic hub – is both classic and modern, traditional and cosmopolitan, continually reborn. We explore the beautifully restored Old Town with its Royal Palace and cobbled streets, now a World Heritage Site. We also see the Palace of Culture, reflect on the former largest Jewish ghetto in Europe, and stroll through Lazienkowski Park, home to the Chopin Monument. At around 2.30 pm – after time for a walk and lunch – we depart towards Pomerania and continue to Poznan, an active city with a magnificent main square and vibrant atmosphere, where you’ll have time to explore.
Day 13 - Poznan - Berlin
We leave Poznan early, travelling across the wide plains into Germany and arriving in Berlin at around 11.30 am.
Day 14 - Berlin
Immerse yourself in the local culture on a guided panoramic tour of Berlin. We take in the historic centre, Museum Island, the Reichstag, the Brandenburg Gate, the shopping streets and the city’s handsome parks, with stops at the Holocaust Memorial and the Berlin Wall Memorial Museum. You can opt to visit Potsdam and its splendid palaces.
Day 15 - Berlin - Dresden - Prague
We journey through forests to Dresden, famed for its outstanding architectural and artistic heritage. You’ll have time to explore some of its impressive palaces and enjoy lunch in one of its many restaurants and coffee houses. Later we continue to the Czech Republic, arriving in Prague. We head straight to the Old Town Square – a lively hub ideal for your first taste of the city – where you can dine at restaurants offering Czech, Chinese, Indian, Italian and other cuisines. Afterwards we return to the hotel.
Day 16 - Prague
Today we explore Prague, the Baroque jewel of Europe. Our local guide leads a panoramic tour showcasing the city’s outstanding monuments, including a visit to Prague Castle (admission included). We then enjoy a boat cruise on the Vltava River (included). The afternoon is free for you to explore.
Day 17 - Prague
After breakfast our journey comes to an end – leaving you with wonderful memories.
