Welcome to Stockholm. We transfer you to the hotel, and you then have time to settle in. In the afternoon you receive practical information, either in person or via the noticeboard at reception.
Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Stockholm
Today we embark on a panoramic tour of Sweden’s capital, spread across 14 interlinked islands. We explore Gamla Stan – the ‘city between bridges’ – including Stortorget with the Nobel Prize Museum, the Cathedral and the Royal Palace, and, where possible, take in the views from Fjällgatan. Afterwards you have free time – we recommend the city’s museums and parks – and you can opt to visit City Hall and the Vasa Museum.
Day 3 - Stockholm - Stockholm - Turku Ferry
Enjoy a free day in Stockholm. In the evening we board a modern ferry for an overnight crossing to Finland, staying in comfortable double en suite cabins.
Day 4 - Stockholm - Turku Ferry - Naantali - Helsinki
As we reach Finland, we suggest heading up on deck at sunrise to admire the Åland Islands – hundreds of forested isles slipping past. After disembarking we have time to discover Turku, a city with strong Swedish influence, before continuing to the nearby seaside town of Naantali with its charming wooden houses. We then travel on to Helsinki. After lunch we take a public ferry to the Suomenlinna Islands – a UNESCO World Heritage fortress guarding the maritime approach – where you have time to wander the bridges, walls and viewpoints before we return to Helsinki by boat and transfer to the hotel.
Day 5 - Helsinki - Helsinki - Tallinn Ferry - Tallinn
Enjoy a free morning in Finland’s capital to uncover the charms of this modern seaside city. In the afternoon we take a ferry to Estonia – around 2 hours 30 minutes – and we recommend you savour the views of Helsinki and its surrounding islands as we depart. Arrival in Tallinn.
Day 6 - Tallinn
Today we take a panoramic tour of Tallinn, a capital that has preserved its medieval heart. We see its walls, churches, squares and cobbled streets rich with sights, then you have the afternoon free to explore.
Day 7 - Tallinn - Parnu - Turaida - Sigulda - Salaspils - Riga
We travel through forests and plains to Pärnu, a popular seaside resort, then continue into Latvia. We stop for an included lunch before visiting medieval Turaida Castle – admission included – set within a spacious sculpture park. Next, we stroll in Sigulda, a small and charming town amid lovely scenery, and continue towards Riga with a stop at the Salaspils Memorial on the site of a former concentration camp from the Nazi period – one of Europe’s largest monumental complexes since 1967 – commemorating the victims. We arrive in Riga in the evening.
Day 8 - Riga
We enjoy a panoramic tour of Riga, the largest city in the Baltic states, where traces of the Soviet era remain. Renowned for its cultural centre, medieval Historic Centre and superb Art Nouveau architecture, the city then awaits you for an afternoon at leisure.
Day 9 - Riga - Rundale - Vilnius
We depart early for Lithuania, visiting the Baroque Rundale Palace, designed by the architect of St Petersburg’s Hermitage. Crossing the border, we pause at the moving Hill of Crosses, where thousands of crosses of all sizes rise from the landscape, and we include lunch en route. Afterwards we visit Trakai, a beautiful castle on an island in a lake near Vilnius, and finish the day in the Lithuanian capital. Note: depending on daylight, the visit to Trakai may take place the following day after exploring the city.
Day 10 - Vilnius
We begin with a panoramic tour of Vilnius, a city built on seven hills and often compared to Rome. We discover its Baroque churches, surviving walls, castle, lively central streets and around 1,200 medieval houses. The afternoon is free for you to explore.
Day 11 - Vilnius - Grutas Park - Augustów - Warsaw
We continue into Poland, first stopping at Grutas Park – also known as ‘Stalin’s World’ – which displays 86 statues from the Soviet era. We then pause for lunch in the lakeside town of Augustów before heading into central Poland to arrive in Warsaw by day’s end.
Day 12 - Warsaw - Poznan
In the morning we take a panoramic tour of Warsaw with a local guide. This city of nearly two million – Poland’s political and economic hub – is both classic and modern, traditional and cosmopolitan. We explore the beautifully restored Old Town, a World Heritage Site, see the Palace of Culture, reflect on the former largest Jewish ghetto in Europe, and stroll through Lazienkowski Park with its Chopin Monument. At about 14:30, after time for a walk and lunch, we depart for Pomerania and continue to Poznan, an active city with a magnificent main square and lively atmosphere, where you have time to explore.
Day 13 - Poznan - Berlin
We depart early from Poznan, crossing the broad plains into Germany, and arrive in Berlin at around 11:30.
Day 14 - Berlin
We immerse ourselves in Berlin on a guided panoramic tour. We see the historic centre, Museum Island, the Reichstag, the Brandenburg Gate, major shopping streets and handsome parks, with stops at the Holocaust Memorial and the Berlin Wall Memorial Museum. You can opt for an excursion to Potsdam and its splendid palaces.
Day 15 - Berlin
After breakfast our journey concludes – we hope you leave with wonderful memories.
