Itinerary
Day 1 - Into the Lares Highlands

Cusco – Lares – Wakawasi. Arrive in Cusco before the tour, as you will be picked up from your accommodation this morning between 5:00 and 6:00 am. We then travel through the Andean highlands towards the traditional village of Lares.
Upon arrival in Lares Town at 2,900 metres, you can opt to visit the town’s natural hot springs at an additional cost. The mineral-rich waters provide a chance to relax before we begin the trek.
We then start our ascent towards the village of Wakawasi, following zigzagging mountain trails through remote Andean valleys. Along the route, we take in views of dramatic glaciers, towering peaks, and rugged mountain landscapes, while keeping an eye out for wildlife native to the region.
By late afternoon, we arrive in Wakawasi at 3,850 metres. Here, we spend time with local families who continue to live closely connected to the land and surrounding mountains. We learn about their traditions, and daily life in this peaceful Andean community.
Trekking distance: Approx. 14 km
Trekking time: Approx. 6 hours
Day 2 - Crossing the Andes
Wakawasi – Ipsayccocha – Patacancha. After breakfast, we begin the day with a briefing before setting out on a challenging trek through the Andes.
We spend approximately four hours ascending mountain trails towards Ipsayccocha Pass at 4,400 metres. As we climb higher, the landscape opens up to reveal dramatic mountain scenery, with sweeping views across the surrounding peaks and valleys. At the summit, there is time to pause and appreciate the remote beauty of this high-altitude environment.
From the pass, we descend for around 40 minutes to the shores of Ipsaycocha Lake, where we stop for lunch beside the tranquil waters. Surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery, it is the perfect place to rest and recharge before continuing the journey.
In the afternoon, we trek for approximately three more hours towards the village of Patacancha at 3,800 metres. Along the way, we pass through quiet valleys and traditional highland communities, where farming and weaving continue to play an important role in daily life.
By evening, we arrive at our campsite in Patacancha, surrounded by grazing llamas and alpacas, terraced fields, and native crop plantations. We enjoy dinner together before settling in for the night beneath the clear Andean sky.
Trekking distance: 15 KM
Trekking time: 8 hours
Day 3 - From Mountains to Machu Picchu

Patacancha – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes. This morning, we enjoy breakfast surrounded by fresh mountain air and views across the Andes before continuing our journey towards Ollantaytambo.
We walk through scenic Andean valleys framed by terraced hillsides, traditional villages, and mountain landscapes that reflect the region’s long agricultural history.
Upon arrival in Ollantaytambo, we stop for lunch in this historic Inca town, known for its cobbled streets and remarkably preserved stone architecture dating back to the 15th century.
Later, we board the train to Aguas Calientes, travelling through changing scenery where the high Andes gradually give way to lush cloud forest and steep jungle-covered cliffs as we approach Machu Picchu.
Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, we transfer to our hotel. If time allows, you can explore the town’s lively streets, cafés, shops, and relaxed atmosphere at your own pace.
In the evening, we come together for dinner before receiving a briefing from our guide to prepare for tomorrow’s visit to Machu Picchu.
Trekking distance: Approx. 12 KM
Trekking time: 4 hours
Day 4 - Machu Picchu & Return to Cusco

Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Ollantaytambo – Cusco. Early this morningat 5:30 am, we take a 25-minute bus ride from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu, arriving as the morning mist begins to lift from the ancient citadel. As the first light reaches the stone terraces and temples, we experience one of the most memorable moments of the journey.
From approximately 6:00 am to 8:00 am, we explore Machu Picchu on a guided tour, learning about the history, engineering, and cultural significance of this extraordinary Inca site. As we walk through the terraces, plazas, and ceremonial areas, we are surrounded by dramatic views of the Andes mountains.
After the guided tour, you will have free time to continue exploring Machu Picchu at your own pace. You may wish to revisit favourite viewpoints, discover quieter corners of the site, or, if pre-booked, take on the climb to Huayna Picchu for panoramic views over the citadel at an additional cost.
Later, you return by bus to Aguas Calientes, where there is time to visit the local market near the train station. You can browse for souvenirs or pick up snacks before the journey back begins.
In the afternoon, we board the train to Ollantaytambo before continuing by bus to Cusco. We arrive at Plaza San Francisco at approximately 8:00 pm, where you will make your own way to your accommodation.
