Day 1 - Madrid
Welcome to Madrid. On arrival at the airport, we’ll transfer you to your hotel, then you’ll have free time until the tour begins. Please check the information board in reception for the time and details of the welcome meeting with your guide and fellow travellers.In the evening, we’ll provide a transfer to Plaza Mayor and La Latina – a lively area known for nightlife and tapas restaurants. You can choose where to dine, with plenty of options including Spanish, Indian, Chinese and Middle Eastern cuisines.
Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Madrid
This morning we set out on a comprehensive tour of central Madrid, taking in Paseo del Prado, the Cibeles and Neptuno fountains, Puerta de Alcalá, Plaza de Colón and Plaza Mayor. We then head to Retiro Park – a green oasis in the city centre – to see the lake and the Palacio de Cristal. Admission is included to the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, home of Real Madrid. You have the rest of the afternoon at leisure to explore at your own pace. In the evening, we provide a return transfer to the hotel.
Day 3 - Madrid - Granada
We leave Madrid early and head south across the plains of La Mancha – Don Quixote country – pausing in Puerto Lápice, a classic Manchego village. We then continue through the Despeñaperros pass into Andalusia, reaching Granada for an included lunch. The afternoon is free – you could visit the Cathedral, which houses the tomb of the Catholic Monarchs, or wander the Albaicín and take in views of the Alhambra from the Mirador de San Nicolás.Note: Admission to the Alhambra is not included. If you wish to purchase tickets, we recommend using the official website, https://tickets.alhambra-patronato.es, or companies that organise visits in the city.
Day 4 - Granada - Nerja - Malaga - Ronda - Seville
We leave Granada this morning for a scenic day by road. Crossing the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, we follow the Mediterranean along the Tropical Coast – its mild climate supports guavas, mangoes and avocados and once sustained sugar cane. We stop in Nerja, a seaside town set beneath striking cliffs, before continuing to Málaga, capital of the Costa del Sol. You’ll have time here for lunch and a stroll through the historic centre. In the afternoon we head inland into the Andalusian sierras to Ronda, renowned for the dramatic gorge that splits the town in two. We then continue to Seville, arriving in the late afternoon – dinner is included at the hotel.
Day 5 - Seville - Zaragoza
In the morning, we take a panoramic tour of Seville, visiting the cathedral and its famous Giralda, the banks of the Guadalquivir, and the Santa Cruz and Triana neighbourhoods. After the tour, we include a boat ride on the Guadalquivir. In the afternoon, we transfer you to the station to board the high speed train, scheduled to depart around 4.30 pm – the 850 km journey to Zaragoza takes just under four hours. On arrival in Zaragoza, we transfer you to your hotel. Please note the train sector is unescorted by the tour guide.
Day 6 - Zaragoza - Poblet - Barcelona
We begin with a morning panoramic tour of Zaragoza led by a local expert. Our first stop is the Cathedral–Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar, before we explore the legacy of Goya and view some of his works. We then continue to the Roman theatre and a Renaissance palace, and round off with a stroll by the Aljafería Palace. After lunch, we travel into Catalonia to visit Poblet Abbey – a walled monastery set amid beautiful scenery – with tickets included. We then continue to Barcelona, arriving in the evening.
Day 7 - Barcelona
In the morning, we take a panoramic tour of Barcelona – a city shaped by the Mediterranean and renowned for Gaudí’s modernist architecture, its lively Ramblas and the legacies of the World Expositions and Olympic Games. We finish at Maremagnum, a waterfront leisure and dining complex beside Columbus Square, where you can stroll and choose a place for lunch. The afternoon is at your leisure to keep exploring or relax by the port. We return to the hotel at the end of the day.
Day 8 - Barcelona
After breakfast, we conclude our journey in Barcelona – we hope you depart with lasting memories.
