Itinerary
Day 1 - Frankfurt
Welcome to Frankfurt. We meet you on arrival and organise your transfer to the hotel – the remainder of the day is yours. In the afternoon we share practical information, either in person or via the noticeboard at reception.
Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Frankfurt - Cruise on the Rhine - Cologne - Amsterdam
We take a scenic cruise on the Rhine between Rüdesheim and St Goar – among the river’s most picturesque stretches. We then continue to Cologne to admire its vast Gothic cathedral, before crossing into the Netherlands and arriving in Amsterdam in the evening.
Day 3 - Amsterdam
This morning we experience classic Holland at Zaanse Schans with its windmills and canals, then move on to Volendam, a charming fishing village. From here we sail across to Marken – once an island, now linked to the mainland by a fixed dyke – where traditional houses were built on stilts to guard against flooding. In the afternoon we enjoy a guided tour of Amsterdam, seeing a windmill and the Rembrandt statue, the elegant South District and the craft of diamond cutting around Museum Square. We finish at Central Station, and our guide shares tips so you can explore the canals, markets and cafés at your own pace.
Day 4 - Amsterdam - Hamelin - Berlin
We leave Amsterdam for Germany, pausing in Hamelin, whose streets and shops recall the tale of the Pied Piper. We continue via Marienborn – the former border between East and West Germany until 1990 – and reach Berlin in the evening.
Day 5 - Berlin
This morning we tour Berlin with a local guide, passing Museum Island, the Television Tower, the main shopping streets in the centre, the old cathedral destroyed during the Second World War, the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag and the city’s expansive parks. We pause to visit the Holocaust Memorial and the Berlin Wall Memorial Museum. The afternoon is free for you to explore, and in the early evening we provide a transfer to lively Kantstrasse.
Day 6 - Berlin - Dresden - Prague
We travel through forests to Dresden, famed for its architectural and artistic heritage, where you have time to wander among palaces and enjoy lunch. Later we continue to the Czech Republic and arrive in Prague, heading to Old Town Square – a vibrant first taste of the city. You can dine at one of the many restaurants serving international and Czech cuisine before we return to the hotel.
Day 7 - Prague
We explore Prague with a local guide on a panoramic tour of its Baroque splendour. We visit Prague Castle – admission included – and then enjoy an included boat ride on the Vltava. The afternoon is free for you to keep discovering at your own pace.
Day 8 - Prague - Munich - Innsbruck
We set off early for Bavaria and reach Munich by midday – you have free time to stroll the historic centre and have lunch. In the afternoon we continue into Austria and the heart of the Alps, arriving in Innsbruck, capital of Tyrol, where you have time to explore and later to dine around the Golden Roof and the Old Town.
Day 9 - Innsbruck - Salzburg
This morning we visit the Swarovski Museum – admission included – to see its striking gardens and discover how the crystal pieces are made. You then have free time in Innsbruck. We continue along scenic Alpine roads to Kitzbühel, a Tyrolean resort famous for skiing and the legendary Hahnenkamm Race, before reaching Salzburg by day’s end.
Day 10 - Salzburg - Lake Traunsee - Vienna
We delve deeper into Austria. In the morning we explore Salzburg, Mozart’s city, its Renaissance and Baroque centre set beneath the grand castle. We then travel through lakes and mountains to St Wolfgang, continue to Traunkirchen on the shores of Traunsee and take an included lake cruise to view four castles, disembarking in Gmunden. We carry on to Vienna, arriving in the evening.
Day 11 - Vienna
We set out on a panoramic tour of Vienna with a local guide, taking in grand avenues, splendid palaces, expansive parks and the lively historic centre. The afternoon is free for you to explore. In the evening we include a transfer to Grinzing – once a wine village and now a city district – with its traditional taverns, where you have free time to dine.
Day 12 - Vienna
After breakfast our journey concludes – we hope you depart with wonderful memories.
