Itinerary
Day 1 - Reykjavik
On arrival at Keflavik International Airport, make your way to your accommodation in Reykjavik, Iceland's vibrant capital. We can arrange a Flybus transfer or a private, door-to-door service for a smooth start. Settle into your hotel and take time to unwind after the flight - you can begin to soak up the city's distinctive atmosphere as you get ready for your 7-day Ring Road journey.
Day 2 - Reykjavik to Akureyri
After breakfast, our expert local guide meets the group at your hotel in Reykjavik at 9:00 am. We set off on a scenic drive north, passing through the Hvalfjörður Tunnel to the village of Borgarnes, then continue to Skagafjörður Fjord, renowned as the heartland of the Icelandic horse - the only region in Iceland where horses outnumber people. Along the way, we visit Glaumbaer Museum, a traditional turf farmhouse that offers a clear window into Iceland's rural past. We then cross the highland plateau of Öxnadalsheiði, framed by striking mountain views, before arriving in Akureyri - often called the capital of North Iceland. In the evening, you can unwind with an optional visit to Forest Lagoon - a geothermal spa in a tranquil woodland setting - available at an additional cost. Overnight in Akureyri.
Day 3 - Myvatn & Dimmuborgir
Leaving Akureyri, we spend the day exploring the volcanic landscapes around Lake Mývatn, a shallow lake noted for birdlife and geothermal activity. Our first stop is Goðafoss - the legendary Waterfall of the Gods - before continuing to the lava formations of Dimmuborgir and a walk among the Skutustaðagigar pseudocraters. We visit Grjotagja, a small lava cave with a naturally heated spring, then head to the steaming fields at Namaskarð, where bubbling mud pools and fumaroles create a striking scene. Turning east, we pause at Dettifoss - among Europe's most powerful waterfalls - then cross the remote Möðrudalsöraefi highland desert and continue through Jökuldalur Valley to Egilsstaðir. Overnight stay in Egilsstaðir.
Day 4 - East Fjords
From Egilsstaðir, we follow the Ring Road through the East Fjords - a run of narrow inlets, steep mountainsides and quiet fishing villages - passing lakes and traditional farms in a region where wild reindeer still roam after being introduced centuries ago. Summer here is often the sunniest in Iceland, while winter brings atmospheric fog over the fjords. In the afternoon, you may choose to join an optional Glacier Jeep Adventure on Vatnajökull - a 3-4 hour trip by specially modified super jeep up onto the ice, with time to walk on the snow and enjoy expansive mountain views. This excursion is at extra cost and requires a minimum of four participants. We end the day with an overnight stay at a hotel in Höfn, a small fishing town known for its lobster and scenic harbour.
Day 5 - Icebergs, Lava Fields & Waterfalls
We travel the dramatic southeast coast to Jökulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, where we join an amphibian boat tour among drifting icebergs calved from Breiðamerkurjökull. Just across the road, Diamond Beach awaits - black volcanic sand scattered with glittering ice.
Continuing through Vatnajökull National Park, we pass beneath Hvannadalshnukur - Iceland's highest peak at 2,119 metres - then cross the vast Eldhraun lava fields and the black glacial plains of Mýrdalssandur. In Vik, we visit Reynisfjara's black sand beach, famed for its basalt columns and powerful Atlantic waves; in summer, puffins nest on the nearby cliffs. From here, we admire the Dyrholaey sea arch before closing the day at two Icelandic icons - Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss. You can walk behind Seljalandsfoss for a unique perspective - waterproof clothing is recommended. Overnight in the Selfoss area.
Day 6 - The Golden Circle
We spend the day on the legendary Golden Circle - first at Gullfoss, a powerful two‑tier waterfall crashing into a rugged canyon. We continue to the Geysir geothermal area to see steaming hot springs and Strokkur erupting every few minutes, before moving on to Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates drift apart and where the Althingi, one of the world's oldest parliaments, was founded in 930 AD. From Thingvellir, we return to Reykjavik for our final night. In the afternoon, you may choose an optional visit to the Blue Lagoon at extra cost - the package includes return transfers, admission, a silica mud mask, use of a towel and one drink - a relaxing way to round off the week.
Day 7 - Reykjavik
After breakfast, you have free time - depending on your flight - before travelling from Reykjavik to Keflavik International Airport independently - transfers are not included. We can book a Flybus shuttle or arrange a private door-to-door transfer for your journey. As your Iceland adventure draws to a close, you head home with lasting memories of a week on the Ring Road.
