Day 1 - Tokyo
Upon arriving in Tokyo and completing the necessary customs procedures, you'll be transported to your hotel via a shared shuttle bus. The remainder of the day is yours to savour as you please, allowing you to unwind or perhaps start exploring the city at your own pace. Later in the afternoon, you'll receive details about the start of your exciting tour. Enjoy your leisurely time in one of the world's most fascinating cities. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Tokyo
We begin our day with an immersive exploration of Tokyo, embarking on a guided tour of this captivating metropolis. This city is a remarkable blend of dynamic energy and tranquil retreats. Our adventure starts with a brief visit to the historic Zojoji Temple, where you can savour the iconic view of the Tokyo Tower rising majestically in the background. The temple's grounds are adorned with numerous Jizo statues, lovingly decorated with colourful knit hats and bibs, thought to guard children.Our next stop is the legendary Shibuya Crossing, renowned as the world's busiest intersection, providing an exhilarating snapshot of Tokyo's bustling life. We proceed to the serene Meiji Shrine, commemorating Emperor Meiji and his consort, before travelling along the sophisticated Omotesando Avenue. Continuing on, we'll witness the picturesque elements of the Imperial Palace and its beautifully maintained gardens, with a pause to enjoy the elegance of the Nijubashi Bridge.As our journey unfolds, we drive through Akihabara, famously known as "Electric Town," a vibrant hub for manga and anime enthusiasts. We also pass by the Kokugikan, Japan's prominent sumo wrestling arena, a testament to the country's cultural traditions. Our tour culminates in Asakusa, visiting the venerable Sensoji Temple and strolling down the bustling Nakamise Street. A delicious lunch awaits us at a local eatery before we make our way back to the hotel.In the evening, we reconvene at the hotel lobby at 6:30 p.m. to embark on a metro journey to Shinjuku, famed for its lively nightlife. Here, we'll wander through the vibrant streets, soaking in the energetic atmosphere before enjoying a delightful dinner at a local restaurant. Post-dinner, we will return to the hotel, again via the metro, guided by our experienced tour leader.
Day 3 - Tokyo - Kyoto
On the third day, we embark on an exhilarating journey by bullet train from Tokyo to Kyoto, a distance of nearly 500 km that we will cover in a little over two hours. This allows us ample time to explore Kyoto, a city profoundly rich in history as Japan's former capital from 794 to 1868. Intriguingly, Kyoto was spared from bombing during World War II, preserving its rich artistic heritage in remarkable condition. The city is also recognised as the birthplace of the Kyoto Protocol in 1997, dedicated to curbing greenhouse gas emissions.Our exploration of Kyoto will take us to its most revered sites. We will marvel at the exquisite Fushimi Inari Shrine, famous for its thousands of vibrant red torii gates. Our journey will then lead us to the Imperial Palace, a testament to Kyoto's royal past. We will also visit Kinkakuji Temple, often referred to as the "Golden Pavilion," admired for its stunning architecture and serene garden surroundings.Later, you will have free time to wander through Gion, Kyoto's traditional district, which is celebrated for its historic teahouses and the elegant geishas who frequent the area. The remainder of the day is yours to discover more of Kyoto at your own pace.
Day 4 - Kyoto - Nara - Osaka
Today we journey to Nara, where you'll explore the grand Todaiji Temple, established in 752 and home to an imposing Buddha statue. While here, take the opportunity to interact with the resident deer, friendly creatures that wander freely in the park. An included lunch will follow this enriching morning. In the afternoon, we'll visit Horyu-ji Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its ancient architecture, including one of the world's oldest wooden structures. This temple holds great cultural significance as Japan's oldest Buddhist temple and remains an important place of worship.As the day progresses, we'll travel on to Osaka, arriving in the evening. Here, you'll be accommodated in this bustling and lively city, known as Japan's second-largest urban area. Later, we'll explore Dotonbori, a vibrant district famed for its dynamic nightlife, offering a feast for the senses.
Day 5 - Osaka - Busan
We will transfer you to Osaka for your flight to Busan. Welcome to South Korea! Upon arrival, you will be taken to your hotel, where you can enjoy some free time to explore the city at your leisure. Busan is South Korea's second-largest city, known for its vibrant atmosphere and lively culture. Later, our group will gather as we meet our guide, who will lead us through the remainder of this exciting journey.
Day 6 - Busan - Seokguram - Bulguksa - Gyeongju - Daegu
Today, we'll set off for the Seokguram Grotto, a remarkable 8th-century Buddhist site situated on the slopes of Mount Tohamsan. Following this, our exploration takes us to Bulguksa Temple, widely considered one of Korea's most exquisite temples. We then continue to Gyeongju, famed for being Korea's longest-serving capital, presiding over the country for an impressive 992 years under 56 monarchs. Here, you'll have the opportunity to capture the beauty of Woljeonggyo Bridge, a stunning wooden structure that spans the Namcheon River.Our midday lunch is included as we spend time in Tumuli Park – home to the ancient burial mounds of the Silla Kingdom, dating back over 1,500 years. You will have the chance to visit one of these tombs before we take a short walk to the Cheomsongdae Observatory, the oldest astronomical observatory in East Asia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.We then journey to Daegu, Korea's fourth-largest city, where you'll experience the vibrancy of Dongsan Cheongna Hill, a historic site once central to Christian missionaries. Before concluding the day, we'll explore Dongseong-ro, the bustling heart of Daegu known for its array of trendy shops, cafes, and restaurants, offering a glimpse of modern Korean life. We'll settle in Daegu for an overnight stay, resting up for tomorrow's adventures.
Day 7 - Daegu - Andong - Hahoe - Seoul
On day 7, we embark on a cultural exploration starting in Daegu. Our first stop is the Yangnyeongsi Museum of Oriental Medicine, renowned for showcasing the rich history of medicinal herbs. Following this, we'll amble through the surrounding Herbal Medicine Market, known for its high-quality ginseng among other herbal products. Our journey continues north to Andong, where we will visit the outskirts of the traditional Hahoe Village, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, you'll have the opportunity to wander through this charming rural village, preserved in its historic state. We will also visit the Hahoe Mask Museum, which displays an array of masks from across the globe, used in various cultural traditions. Lunch will be provided at a local restaurant.Next, we explore the Byeongsan Seowon Confucian Academy, established in the 16th century and beautifully situated along a serene river. In the evening, we will arrive in Seoul. If the weather is favourable, we'll make a stop at the Banpo Bridge over the Han River, celebrated for its spectacular fountain show that illuminates the bridge with a rainbow of lights. The day concludes with an overnight stay in Seoul. Please note, the visit to Banpo Bridge is dependent on weather conditions.
Day 8 - Seoul
Today, we embark on an early journey to the Cheorwon region, exploring its section of the Demilitarised Zone (DMZ) that marks the divide between North and South Korea. Our first stop is the Second Tunnel, a covert passage dug by the North Korean army, discovered in 1975. We'll then proceed to the Cheorwon Peace Observatory, providing panoramic views of the DMZ and the first glimpses of North Korean villages, with a small museum nearby dedicated to the Korean War. Continuing our route, we visit the deserted Woljeong-ri railway station and the Baek Ma Battle Memorial, commemorating the efforts of a French UN battalion.Lunch will be provided. Afterwards, we visit a local producer of Makgeolli, a traditional Korean rice liquor. We'll return to Seoul in the evening. Please remember to bring your passport, as it is required. The DMZ is a military zone and may be closed without prior notice – if so, we will follow an alternate itinerary.In the evening, we will head to City Hall to admire its impressive architecture. Across the street, you'll find Deoksugung Palace, beautifully illuminated during the evening, showcasing a merger of traditional and modern elements that defines South Korea. Our journey continues to the Myeongdong district, the country's largest hub for shopping and entertainment, which fittingly translates to "bright town." Dinner is included at a local restaurant. We will return to the hotel using the modern and efficient metro system, with transport tickets provided.
Day 9 - Seoul
Today, we'll embark on an engaging five-hour tour of Seoul, starting with a visit to Changdeokgung Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site nestled within a vast park and known for its collection of palaces. We'll then pass by the historic Bukchon Hanok Village, renowned for its traditional homes. Our tour will continue with a visit to the War Memorial of Korea, a captivating museum offering deep insights into the various conflicts that have shaped the nation's history, with a special focus on the Korean War. After enjoying lunch at a local restaurant, we'll explore the vibrant Gangnam District, celebrated for its bustling shopping centres and entertainment venues. To conclude our day, we'll stop at the impressive Lotte World Tower, soaring 550 metres into the sky. You'll have some free time to either ascend the tower (ticket not included) or explore the adjoining park and luxury shopping malls. We'll then return to the hotel, where you'll have additional leisure time.
Day 10 - Seoul - Suwon - Jeonju
We begin our day with a visit to Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul, a majestic site with a history spanning over 600 years. If timing allows, we will witness the ceremonial changing of the guard, a vibrant display of tradition. Leaving Seoul, we head south to Suwon, the former capital of Korea, famed for its impressive UNESCO World Heritage-listed walls. We will explore these remarkable fortifications and the Hwaseong Haenggung, a summer palace with a storied past. Lunch is included to refresh us before continuing our journey to Jeonju. Here, we will wander through its captivating historic centre, known as Hanok Village, where traditional houses stand alongside charming shops and art galleries.
Day 11 - Jeonju - Damyang - Haeinsa - Busan
Today, we depart from Jeonju and head towards Sunchang Gochujang Village, nestled at the base of Mount Amisan. This picturesque village is renowned for its hanok houses and courtyards adorned with clay pots known as hang-a-ri. Here, master artisans preserve the age-old tradition of crafting gochujang, a quintessential Korean chilli paste. We will participate in a hands-on experience to learn how this famous sauce is made. Our journey then takes us to Damyang, where we will explore the Juknokwon Bamboo Forest. These scenic paths, hailed as some of the most beautiful in the country, offer the perfect setting for meditation and enjoying the fresh breeze. You’ll have the opportunity to explore various bamboo artefacts, celebrated in local attractions like the Bamboo Museum. After a delightful lunch featuring a regional speciality—rice cooked and served in a bamboo tube—we proceed to Haeinsa. This revered Buddhist temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site set amidst breathtaking mountain landscapes and forests, was constructed in 802 AD. It safeguards the Tripitaka Koreana, the most complete collection of Buddhist scriptures, meticulously carved onto 80,000 wooden tablets. Our day concludes as we journey to Busan, Korea’s vibrant second-largest city, where we will be staying overnight.
Day 12 - Busan
We start our day in Busan with a visit to Haedong Yonggung, a 14th-century Buddhist temple stunningly perched by the sea, offering a serene and spiritual experience. Upon returning to Busan, we head to the UN Memorial Cemetery, a poignant site where fallen soldiers from various nations are honoured. Our next stop is the renowned fish market at Nampo Port, the largest in South Korea, where you'll witness a vibrant array of seafood. After enjoying an included lunch, we take a leisurely walk to Yongdusan Park, dominated by a towering 120-metre pagoda, providing panoramic views of the surroundings. We'll then head to Songdo Beach, where, weather permitting, you can enjoy a ride on the country's first marine cable car, offering spectacular views of the bay. Our exploration continues at the Gamcheon Culture Village, known for its brightly coloured buildings, winding alleyways, and an array of art galleries, pottery workshops, and inviting cafes. We finish the day with a return to Busan for an overnight stay, allowing you to relax and reflect on the day's discoveries.
Day 13 - Busan
