Itinerary
Day 1 - Kigali - Ruhengeri
On arrival in Kigali, you will be met and transferred to the Virunga Conservation area, a journey of approximately two and a half hours. Time permitting, you may choose to explore local markets, villages and communities for an additional cost, or visit the striking twin lakes Bulera and Ruhondo, which is payable locally. You will then check in to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay in Ruhengeri.
Day 2 - Ruhengeri
After a hearty breakfast at the hotel, take the day at a leisurely pace to rest and recharge. Enjoy the tranquil surroundings of Ruhengeri, allowing yourself time to relax before the adventures ahead. Overnight accommodation is at the hotel in Ruhengeri.
Day 3 - Ruhengeri - Kigali
After breakfast, we transfer to the Volcanoes National Park offices for a briefing by the park guides on appropriate conduct in the forest and around the mountain gorillas. We then travel over mildly bumpy roads to the trailhead, where a 10 to 20-minute walk through cultivated fields leads to the forest edge. From here, we begin the gorilla trek, which lasts until around midday depending on the gorillas’ location. Once found, the encounter is unforgettable and deeply moving. It is important to bring plenty of water, a good camera with ample memory or film, and waterproof clothing, as rain can occur suddenly. After the trek, we return to the hotel for lunch before transferring to Kigali for check-in and dinner. Overnight accommodation is in Kigali.
Day 4 - Kigali
After breakfast, we transfer you to Kigali Airport for your onward flight. We recommend scheduling your departure for the afternoon to allow a relaxed morning before you leave.
