Day 1 - Madrid
Welcome to Madrid! Upon arriving at the airport, we'll ensure your smooth transfer to the hotel. You'll have some leisure time before the tour officially starts. Be sure to check the information signs at the hotel reception for details about the welcome meeting with your guide and fellow travellers. As the evening unfolds, we'll provide a transfer to Plaza Mayor and La Latina, vibrant parts of Madrid famed for their buzzing nightlife and tapas restaurants. Here, you can choose to dine at a restaurant of your liking, offering an array of cuisines including Indian, Chinese, Spanish, and Middle Eastern. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Madrid
We begin our day in the vibrant heart of Madrid with a tour of the city's most cherished landmarks. Our journey takes us through the lively Paseo del Prado, followed by sights such as the majestic Cibeles, the imposing Neptuno, the historic Puerta de Alcalá, and the expansive Plaza de Colón and Plaza Mayor. Next, we explore the serene Retiro Park, a sprawling haven in the bustling city centre. Here, we will admire the tranquil lake and the stunning Palacio de Cristal. For football fans, the itinerary includes a visit to the iconic Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, home to the legendary Real Madrid team. With the rest of the afternoon at your disposal, feel free to wander and absorb the local culture at your own pace. As evening draws near, we’ll provide a convenient transfer back to the hotel, allowing you to relax and reflect on your day of discovery.
Day 3 - Madrid - Zaragoza - Poblet - Barcelona
In the morning, we will set off from Madrid, heading towards the region of Aragon while travelling through the historical lands of Castile. Our first destination will be Zaragoza, where we will take in the impressive sight of the Cathedral-Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar. This architectural marvel is renowned for its stunning baroque design. Continuing our journey, we will proceed to the tranquil confines of Poblet Abbey, a superbly preserved medieval monastery, where entry is included in our visit. Our day will culminate with our arrival in Barcelona in the evening, and you are free to relax or explore the vibrant cityscape.
Day 4 - Barcelona - Girona
In the morning, we will set off on a tour of Barcelona, often referred to as the 'City of Counts'. Nestled along the Mediterranean coastline, this vibrant city is celebrated for its rich blend of modernist architecture by Antoni Gaudí, the lively Ramblas, and a storied history that includes hosting the Universal Exposition and the Olympics. Recognised as one of Europe’s most captivating cities, Barcelona offers a wealth of cultural and architectural wonders to explore. In the evening, we will depart Barcelona, journeying north through the region of Catalonia. Before we retire for the night, there will be time to wander through the historic heart of Girona. Renowned for its colourful houses, an atmospheric old Jewish quarter, and a magnificent cathedral, Girona’s ancient streets offer a charming conclusion to our day’s explorations.
Day 5 - Girona - Carrieres des Lumieres - Chambery
Today, we'll embark on a journey from Girona into the picturesque Provence region of France. Our first stop is the charming city of Arles, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, famed for its connections with Vincent van Gogh as well as its impressive Roman theatre and enchanting Romanesque churches. You'll have time to explore and enjoy lunch amidst its historic backdrop.Our adventure continues with a visit to Carrières des Lumières, an extraordinary underground art installation set within an ancient quarry. This immersive experience combines mesmerising art, images, and sound, creating a captivating environment. Later, we'll make our way to Chambéry, the delightful capital of Savoy. Steeped in medieval charm, Chambéry boasts a beautiful historic centre and a grand castle, where we will spend our evening.Please note that if tickets to Carrières des Lumières are unavailable due to high demand, we'll visit the iconic Pont du Gard, an impressive Roman aqueduct, as an alternative.
Day 6 - Chambery - Geneva - Gruyeres - Leysin
On Day 6, we’ll set out for Switzerland, making our way to Geneva. Here, accompanied by our guide, we will visit the Palais des Nations—Europe’s United Nations hub—and take a leisurely walk through the splendid English Garden to admire its famous flower clock and the elegant Jet d’Eau, Europe's tallest fountain. Our journey continues to the enchanting village of Gruyères, renowned globally for its delicious cheese. Nearby, we’ll explore some of Switzerland’s celebrated chocolate factories, including an indulgent visit to the Maison Cailler Chocolate Factory where you can enjoy a delightful tasting session. We will then proceed along picturesque routes through serene mountain landscapes and charming wooden villages to reach Chillon Castle, majestically situated on the edge of Lake Geneva. Admission to this historic site is included in our tour. By mid-afternoon, we’ll arrive in Leysin, a delightful holiday village with stunning views over the Rhône Valley and Mont Blanc. Famous for its winter sports and hiking opportunities, Leysin makes for a perfect retreat where we will enjoy dinner together. Please note that, depending on availability, our accommodation might be in another charming Swiss town nestled in the Alps, such as Martigny.
Day 7 - Leysin - Interlaken - Lucerne - Zurich
Today, prepare for an adventure among the breathtaking alpine landscapes of Switzerland. Ensure you have your winter gear ready as we journey to Glacier 3000. We'll ascend by cable car to this stunning location, renowned for its perpetual ice and snow. Experience the thrill of walking across the suspended bridge between two peaks or visiting the intriguing Ice Cathedral. If you’re feeling adventurous, the Fun Park offers additional delights. After soaking in the icy splendour, we’ll pause in Interlaken for lunch, allowing you to enjoy the charming atmosphere and picturesque views. Our next destination is Lucerne, a city celebrated for its stunning beauty. In the evening, we’ll arrive in Zurich, where ample opportunity awaits to explore the city centre before retiring to your hotel. Should the Glacier 3000 cable car be closed due to weather or unforeseen circumstances, rest assured we’ll provide an equally magnificent alternative to experience the majestic alpine vistas.
Day 8 - Zurich - Strasbourg - Paris
We will depart from Zurich and make our way to the Alsace region of France, where we'll visit Strasbourg. This captivating city harmoniously showcases a blend of French and German influences. You'll have the time to explore Strasbourg and its unique architectural charm. Later, we will continue our journey to Paris, aiming to arrive in the evening.
Day 9 - Paris
Our day begins with a visit to the splendid Palace of Versailles, where you can explore its opulent interiors and world-famous gardens at your own pace. Admission is not included, so you have the freedom to tailor your visit according to your interests. Following our exploration of Versailles, we'll return to Paris and head to Montmartre. This charming neighbourhood, synonymous with bohemian artistry, offers a wonderful glimpse into the city's vibrant past with its bustling streets filled with artists and iconic cabarets. In the afternoon, we will embark on a guided panoramic tour of Paris, highlighting the city's grand boulevards and landmark monuments. You'll gain a deeper appreciation for the city's architectural beauty and rich history. After this illuminating tour, we'll return to the hotel. For those seeking an evening of entertainment, there's an optional variety show available, offering a perfect end to a day spent discovering the magic of Paris.
Day 10 - Paris - Rouen
Beginning our day in the heart of Paris, we start with a trip to the renowned Eiffel Tower, heading up to its second level for marvellous views across the cityscape – tickets are included. Following this, we’ll embark on a delightful boat cruise along the Seine, allowing you to take in Paris from a new perspective. The afternoon will be yours to wander and explore the city's iconic sights at your own pace. Come late afternoon, around 4:00 p.m., we set off from Paris towards Normandy, reaching the historic city of Rouen. Here, you will have time to delve into Rouen's rich history, with its roots tracing back to Roman times. Discover its medieval architecture and spectacular Gothic cathedral, offering an enriching blend of culture and history. Please note, should there be extended wait times at the Eiffel Tower, we may alter the timing of our visit to ensure a smooth experience, potentially revisiting the next day.
Day 11 - Rouen - English Channel - Canterbury - London
This morning, enjoy a leisurely stroll through the picturesque centre of Rouen, renowned for its medieval architecture and striking Gothic cathedral. Later, we'll set off towards northern France and board a ferry to cross the English Channel. Upon arrival in Canterbury, you'll encounter the ecclesiastical heart of England, celebrated for its charming historic centre. As we journey onwards to London, you'll have some free time to explore around the iconic Tower Bridge, an enduring symbol of the city, before we make our way to the hotel for the evening.
Day 12 - London
Experience the vibrant city of London on an enlightening panoramic tour led by a local guide, revealing the rich culture and history of the British capital. The tour will take you past iconic landmarks such as the Houses of Parliament, the River Thames, and Buckingham Palace, where you might even catch the renowned Changing of the Guard ceremony, if your visit aligns with it. As evening descends, we'll reconvene at Piccadilly before taking a leisurely walk through Leicester Square, Chinatown, and Soho. These energetic neighbourhoods are known for their buzzing atmosphere, thriving theatres, and a plethora of entertainment options. Day 13 - London
After breakfast, we will visit the British Museum, one of the most illustrious and historic museums globally, showcasing artefacts from cultures all around the world. Later, we will head to Camden, renowned for its lively and eclectic market, offering a fascinating array of items reflecting diverse cultures. The afternoon is free for you to explore at your own pace and soak in the unique atmosphere. As our journey concludes, we hope you've gathered wonderful and lasting memories.
