Itinerary
Day 1 - Malaga
Arrive at Malaga airport and collect your hire car from the rental desk in the arrivals hall. You may wish to take a leisurely walk around Malaga’s city centre, where you can explore its museums, historic sites and vibrant restaurants. The port area offers a pleasant atmosphere, perfect for a first taste of the city. Alternatively, drive just under 20 kilometres to Torremolinos, a well-known beach resort famous for its long sandy shore and welcoming seafood restaurants. Overnight accommodation will be in Malaga or Torremolinos.
Day 2 - Granada
After breakfast at the hotel, we depart for Granada and check in on arrival. You will have the day to explore this historic city, home to the remarkable Alhambra palace. Perched atop Sabika Hill, the Alhambra has stood for over a thousand years, reaching its peak during the Nasrid dynasty. We explore the royal complex and its gardens, designed as a serene retreat with cool patios, fountains and intricate carvings. Highlights include the Court of the Myrtles, the Hall of the Ambassadors with its elaborate honeycomb plasterwork, and the Court of Lions, famed for its poetic representation of paradise. We also visit the Generalife Palace and its lush gardens, once a summer refuge for Nasrid rulers, where the gentle sound of flowing water adds to the tranquillity. Later, we cross the verdant ravine of the River Darro to the Albaicin quarter, a Moorish-era neighbourhood with narrow cobbled streets and whitewashed houses. Here, you can wander at your leisure and enjoy stunning views of the Alhambra set against the backdrop of the Sierra Nevada mountains. We stay overnight in Granada.
Day 3 - Cordoba
After breakfast, we leave Granada and drive to Córdoba. Once the capital of the Moorish caliphate of Al-Andalus, Córdoba’s rich history is best seen in the Great Mosque, now a Catholic cathedral. We explore the vast prayer halls lined with hundreds of marble columns and distinctive two-tone arches. Take time to admire the intricately decorated mihrab and the side chapels, which blend arabesque and baroque styles. We then stroll through the peaceful Patio of the Orange Trees, shaded by around 100 trees and adorned with elegant arabesque doorways. Our tour continues to the former Jewish Quarter, where we visit the 14th-century synagogue, a rare example of medieval Jewish architecture in Spain. We spend the night in Córdoba.
Day 4 - Seville
After checking in at your hotel, begin your day with a morning walk to explore Seville’s highlights. Visit the Royal Alcazar palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that dates back to the 10th century when it was a Moorish caliph’s residence. Over time, it has been expanded with a blend of Moorish, Mudejar, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles. We will explore its intricate arabesque carvings, vibrant tilework, and richly decorated interiors, including the Hall of Ambassadors and the Patio of Dolls, before wandering through the peaceful gardens. Next, visit Seville Cathedral, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the city’s most iconic landmark with its Giralda belfry. Originally a 12th-century mosque, it is now the third-largest church in the world, housing 80 chapels and over 700 religious artworks. Discover the impressive gilded altarpiece and stroll through the tranquil Patio of the Orange Trees. Finally, explore Santa Cruz, the city’s most charming old quarter and former Jewish neighbourhood, with its maze of whitewashed streets, alleys and patios steeped in history. You may wish to enjoy a traditional tapas lunch here at your leisure. Overnight in Seville.
Day 5 - Malaga
Leaving Seville, we travel towards Malaga with the option to stop in Jerez de la Frontera, a town famed internationally for its production of sherry wine. Jerez is also known for its Carthusian horses, bullfighting traditions, and as the birthplace of flamenco. It hosts notable motor racing events and other cultural highlights. After exploring Jerez, we continue to the Malaga area where you will check in to your hotel for your final night in Andalusia.
Day 6 - Malaga
On your final day, you will return the hire car to the designated drop-off point near Malaga airport. The return procedure and exact location will be confirmed by the car rental company when you collect the vehicle on arrival. This marks the end of your journey.
