Day 1 - Madrid
Arriving in the vibrant city of Madrid, we will be there to welcome you at the airport, providing a hassle-free transfer to your hotel. Take some time to relax and explore at your leisure until the group tour commences. Do check the information boards in the hotel lobby for details regarding the welcome meeting with your guide and fellow travellers. As the day turns to evening, we'll whisk you away to the heart of the city's nightlife at Plaza Mayor and the lively La Latina district, famed for its tapas restaurants. Here, you can choose a dining spot that suits your taste from a range of cuisines, including Indian, Chinese, Spanish, and Middle Eastern. Enjoy your introduction to the flavours and atmosphere of Madrid – a city that never fails to captivate. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Madrid
Day two in Madrid will commence with an immersive tour of the city's vibrant heart. We will guide you through the iconic Paseo del Prado, boasting cultural landmarks, and allow you to take in the grandeur of Cibeles and Neptuno. Our journey continues past the majestic Puerta de Alcalá and the lively Plaza de Colón, concluding at the historic Plaza Mayor. Following our city tour, we'll relax in the serene surroundings of Retiro Park, where you'll find tranquillity beside its charming lake and the ethereal Palacio de Cristal. Our exploration of Madrid also includes a noteworthy visit to the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, home to Real Madrid and a symbol of football excellence.For the remainder of the afternoon, you are free to explore Madrid at your own pace. In the evening, we will provide a transfer back to the hotel, allowing you time to reflect on your experiences from the day.
Day 3 - Madrid - Granada
We'll depart from Madrid early in the morning, heading south through the enchanting region of La Mancha. Our journey takes us to Puerto Lápice, a delightful Manchego village that beautifully evokes the spirit of Don Quixote. From there, we will cross into Andalusia via the scenic Despeñaperros gorge, ultimately reaching the historic city of Granada. Here, lunch will be provided. In the afternoon, you'll have leisure time to explore at your own pace. We suggest visiting the magnificent Cathedral, which is home to the tomb of the Catholic Monarchs, or perhaps wandering the picturesque streets of the Albaicín neighbourhood. Don't miss the opportunity to soak in the stunning views of the Alhambra from the Mirador de San Nicolás. It's important to note that entry to the Alhambra is not included in this tour; should you wish to visit, we recommend securing tickets through their official website or recognised local tour operators.
Day 4 - Granada - Tangier - Asilah - Rabat
We leave the vibrant city of Granada behind and set off along the stunning Costa del Sol. As we journey through this scenic region, we'll arrive at Algeciras or Tarifa, where we'll take a modern ferry across the iconic Strait of Gibraltar—ferry tickets are included. You'll need to manage your own luggage during the crossing as the bus will remain onshore. Once we reach Morocco, we'll travel through breathtaking landscapes. Our first stop is Asilah, a picturesque walled city perched on the Atlantic coast. It was once a historic port and pirate haven, now lively with culture and charm. This is where you'll have time for a delightful lunch. Afterwards, we continue onward to Rabat, where we'll enjoy an included dinner.
Day 5 - Rabat - Casablanca - Marrakech
Our day will commence in Rabat with a panoramic tour to discover the Royal Palace, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and the impressive Kasbah of the Udayas. At midday, we will set off for Casablanca, where a brief city tour awaits us, guided by local expertise. Among the highlights is a visit to the exterior of the stunning Hassan II Mosque, one of the largest and most significant mosques in the Arab world. Following this excursion, we will proceed to Marrakech. Upon arrival at our hotel, you have the opportunity to enjoy a traditional Kalesa ride leading up to the renowned Jemaa el-Fnaa square. Dinner will be included, allowing you to savour the local flavours.
Day 6 - Marrakech
Today, we delve into the enchanting city of Marrakech, a place that has lent its name to the entire nation of Morocco. Our guided tour invites you to explore its impressive city walls, lively Jemaa el-Fnaa square, and the historic Medina. We will also visit landmarks like the Koutoubia Mosque and the Bahia Palace, with admission included. After our morning exploration, you can enjoy a leisurely lunch (included) and choose how to spend your afternoon. Relax by the pool or in the hotel's garden, or perhaps wander through the souks for a spot of shopping. In the evening, should you wish to experience more, there's an optional Fantasy Party excursion available, offering a further taste of Moroccan culture.
Day 7 - Marrakech - Ait Benhadou - Ouarzazate - Boumalne Dades
We begin our journey over the majestic Atlas Mountains, where the snow-capped peaks create a striking contrast against the desert backdrop as we depart from the lush palm groves of Marrakech. You'll catch glimpses of charming Berber villages perched on the cliff sides of deep gorges. Our first stop is the fortified village of Ait Benhaddou, famous for its appearances in many films. As we continue, the landscape evokes biblical times, leading us to a pause in Ouarzazate, renowned for its Kasbah. Travelling through the picturesque Valley of Roses, we arrive at Boumalne Dades for the evening, where dinner awaits. Please note, during winter, snowdrifts may cause road closures, in which case the itinerary will be adjusted accordingly. The journey to the Sahara Desert is subject to road conditions.
Day 8 - Boumalne Dades - Todgha - Erfoud
On Day 8, we embark on an inspiring adventure through the Sahara Desert, exploring the remarkable Valley of the Kasbahs. This area impresses with its river valleys lined by thousands of palm trees, arid rocky plains transforming into verdant oases, and historic adobe villages guarded by enduring fortresses along ancient trade routes. Our itinerary includes a visit to the breathtaking Todgha Gorge, where sheer canyon walls soar over 100 metres on both sides, creating a stunning natural spectacle.As we continue our journey, we'll make a stop at a quaint adobe settlement near Khorbat, where you'll have the opportunity to learn about the local desert community supported by a social foundation. Please note, this visit may be influenced by weather conditions, such as potential river flooding. Our passage then takes us to Erfoud, known as a gateway to the desert. For those interested, an optional off-road excursion offers the chance to experience a spectacular sunset over the Sahara Desert sand dunes. A delicious lunch is included to keep you refreshed along the way.
Day 9 - Erfoud - Fes
On day nine, we will set off early from Erfoud, embarking on another crossing of the Atlas Mountains, where the scenery is both dramatic and breathtaking. Our journey takes us over a high plateau, where you might spot nomadic shepherds going about their day. We'll pause briefly in Midelt, a vibrant commercial town famed for its agricultural produce. Continuing our adventure, we'll enjoy a lunch stop amidst the picturesque surroundings of the Middle Atlas, beside a serene lake.As our journey progresses, the landscape shifts strikingly to a lush, forested region where snow is a frequent winter visitor. Near Azrou, we'll take some time to explore the "House of Cedars" within a national park. This quaint museum offers insight into the area and its ecology. Here, you'll also have the opportunity to observe lively monkey colonies that inhabit the park. We then make our way to Bhalil, a tranquil Berber town in the Middle Atlas, renowned for its charming old town with its vibrant streets. Historically, many homes here incorporated caves into their structures, creating a unique blend of architecture. Our day concludes as we arrive in Fez. Before settling into the hotel, we'll admire the sweeping views of the ancient city from the vantage point of the Marinid Tombs. Dinner will be included to round off the day.
Day 10 - Fes - Tangier
Today promises a rich exploration of Fez, where we embark on a guided tour that begins at the majestic Bronze Gates of the Royal Palace. We delve into the vibrant Jewish quarter, wander through the lively souks, and discover the traditional crafts in the Tanners’ Quarter. Fez, as the cultural heart of Morocco, retains its authentic Arab charm, particularly within its famed Medina. Our visit will culminate with a lunch set in a historic palace within the Medina, providing a taste of local hospitality in an atmospheric setting. In the afternoon, we’ll journey northwards via a modern highway, reaching Tangier by evening. Dinner will be provided upon arrival, offering a perfect end to our day's adventures.
Day 11 - Tangier - Seville
After some free time in Tangier, perhaps for those last-minute souvenirs, we'll take a modern ferry back to Spain. Please note that our bus won't be on board, so you'll need to manage your own luggage during this crossing. Arriving in Algeciras or Tarifa, we'll then journey to Seville. We expect to reach Seville in the evening, where dinner will be included, allowing you to settle in and relax after our day of travel.
Day 12 - Seville
Today in Seville, we'll start our day with an insightful city tour that captures the essence of Andalusian culture. We'll visit the spectacular cathedral, home to the iconic Giralda tower, and delve into the atmospheric streets of the Santa Cruz and Triana neighbourhoods. After exploring the city's rich heritage, we'll unwind on a relaxing boat ride along the Guadalquivir River, offering picturesque views of Seville's skyline. As evening descends, you have the possibility to immerse yourself in the passionate rhythms of a flamenco show at a local tablao, a quintessential Spanish experience.
Day 13 - Seville - Merida - Evora - Lisbon
Departing Seville, we journey through the picturesque landscapes of Andalusia, marked by gentle hills and vast pasturelands, as we make our way towards Extremadura. Our destination is Mérida, where we'll explore the Archaeological Ensemble of Mérida. Entry is included, allowing us to delve into the site's rich history, highlighted by the Roman Theatre and Amphitheatre, celebrated for their remarkable preservation and status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You'll have time to enjoy lunch and wander through Mérida's lively pedestrianised historic centre, which is brimming with local restaurants and character.Our adventure continues as we cross into Portugal, stopping in Évora, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, you'll experience the charm of its whitewashed streets, elegant Renaissance palaces, and impressive cathedral. We’ll soak in the local heritage before making our way to Lisbon, arriving in the evening to settle into the capital’s vibrant atmosphere.
Day 14 - Lisbon
Our day in Lisbon begins with a guided tour of this captivating city, known for its iconic seven hills, delightful narrow streets, and unique tiles. As we explore, you’ll be charmed by Lisbon’s distinctive 'saudade'—a soulful longing—and the stunning Atlantic light that bathes the city. We'll take a closer look at the historic Belém neighbourhood, the departure point of famed Portuguese explorers who set sail on their monumental voyages during the 15th century. The afternoon is yours to enjoy as you wish—perhaps a leisurely stroll through the scenic Bairro Alto or a visit to its renowned viewpoint. If you’re feeling adventurous, consider an optional excursion to the picturesque towns of Sintra, Cascais, and Estoril. Our day concludes with a return transfer from the vibrant Restauradores Square, where you can unwind in one of the many lively bars and cafés.
Day 15 - Lisbon
We conclude our time in Lisbon with breakfast, marking the end of our journey. As you prepare for your departure, take a moment to reflect on the rich experiences and lasting memories from this unique adventure.
