Itinerary
Day 1 - Madrid
Welcome to Madrid. On arrival at the airport, we’ll transfer you to your hotel, where you’ll have free time to settle in until the tour begins – please check the information board at reception for the time and details of the welcome meeting with your guide and fellow travellers. In the evening, we’ll provide a transfer to Plaza Mayor and the nearby La Latina district, renowned for its nightlife and tapas bars. You can choose where to dine – there are plenty of options, including Spanish, Indian, Chinese and Middle Eastern cuisines.
Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Madrid
This morning we take a comprehensive tour of central Madrid, passing the Paseo del Prado, the fountains of Cibeles and Neptuno, Puerta de Alcalá, Plaza de Colón and Plaza Mayor. We then continue to El Retiro Park – the city’s landmark green space – to see the lake and the Palacio de Cristal. Admission is included to the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, home of Real Madrid. You’ll have the afternoon free to explore at your own pace, and in the evening we provide a return transfer to the hotel.
Day 3 - Madrid - Granada
We leave Madrid early, travelling south across La Mancha and stopping in Puerto Lápice – a classic Manchego village associated with Don Quixote. We then continue through Despeñaperros into Andalusia and arrive in Granada, where lunch is included. In the afternoon, if you have chosen the Alhambra option, you will visit the Alhambra and the Generalife Gardens with a local guide – both built during the Arab period. Important: entry to the Alhambra is strictly regulated by law. To secure admission, tickets are issued once your tour reservation is confirmed, and you must provide your full name and passport or ID number at the time of booking. Ticket costs are not refundable if you cancel. In the rare event that Alhambra entry is not possible, we will visit the Royal Alcázar of Seville instead, which offers comparable historical and architectural interest.
Day 4 - Granada - Nerja - Malaga - Ronda - Seville
We depart Granada, enjoying striking views as we leave the Sierra Nevada behind and follow the Mediterranean along the Tropical Coast – a mild microclimate where guavas, mangoes and avocados thrive, and where sugar cane was once grown. We pause in Nerja, a seaside town known for its impressive cliffs, then continue to Málaga, capital of the Costa del Sol, with a lively historic centre. You’ll have time for lunch and a stroll before we head into the Andalusian sierras to reach Ronda – a white town famed for the dramatic gorge that divides it. We continue to Seville, arriving in the late afternoon, with dinner included at the hotel.
Day 5 - Seville
This morning we explore Seville on a guided tour, taking in the cathedral and its famous Giralda, the banks of the Guadalquivir, and the atmospheric neighbourhoods of Santa Cruz and Triana. After the tour, we enjoy an included boat ride on the Guadalquivir – a relaxed way to see the city from the water with wide panoramic views. In the evening, you can choose to experience a flamenco tablao.
Day 6 - Seville - Merida - Evora - Lisbon
We leave Seville and travel through rolling hills and wide pasturelands towards Extremadura. In Mérida, admission is included to the Archaeological Ensemble – home to the remarkably preserved Roman Theatre and Amphitheatre – recognised as a World Heritage Site. You’ll have time for lunch and a stroll through the pedestrian historic centre. We then continue into Portugal, pausing in Évora – also a World Heritage Site – known for its whitewashed streets, Renaissance palaces and cathedral. We arrive in Lisbon in the evening.
Day 7 - Lisbon
This morning we take a guided tour of Lisbon – the Portuguese capital of seven hills, known for its winding alleys, distinctive tiles, a touch of saudade and clear Atlantic light. We also visit Belem, the riverside district from which Portuguese navigators set out across the oceans in the 15th century. The afternoon is yours to explore – you can wander up to Bairro Alto and its viewpoint, or join an optional excursion to Sintra, Cascais and Estoril. In the evening, we provide a return transfer to the hotel from lively Restauradores Square, lined with bars and cafes.
Day 8 - Lisbon - Caceres - Madrid
We depart early, travelling across Portugal’s Alentejo – with a coffee stop in Estremoz, known for its medieval castle, cobbled streets and elegant architecture – before crossing into Spain. In Cáceres, you’ll have free time to find lunch and explore the historic centre, celebrated as one of the best-preserved medieval and Renaissance ensembles in the world. We then continue to Madrid, arriving in the evening – the journey concludes on arrival. Please check your flight time in case you need to book an additional night.
