Itinerary
Day 1 - London
Welcome to London. We’ll transfer you to the hotel, after which you’ll have free time to settle in. In the afternoon, please check the boards at hotel reception for information about the start of your tour.
Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - London
This morning we tour London, taking in Westminster, Parliament, the City and the Thames. The afternoon is free – you can join our optional excursion to the Thames Valley and Windsor, crowned by its castle. In the evening we meet at Piccadilly for a guided stroll through Leicester Square, Chinatown and Soho – an area known for its lively atmosphere, theatres and entertainment. In some cases this evening programme may run on the previous day, depending on your arrival time in London. We return to the hotel by coach.
Day 3 - London
A free day in London to explore at your own pace. There are no scheduled activities today – you can decide how to spend your time, from discovering new neighbourhoods and browsing markets to visiting museums, parks or simply relaxing. Take it easy and enjoy the city in the way that suits you best.
Day 4 - London - Cambridge - York - Durham
We leave London and head north to Cambridge to admire its historic colleges. After lunch, we continue to York to take in the cathedral, the Roman walls and its lively shopping streets – you’ll have free time to explore at your own pace. Later, we travel on to Durham, a handsome medieval city where the magnificent cathedral stands opposite the castle.
Day 5 - Durham - Alnwick - Edinburgh
We leave Durham and head north into Scotland, stopping in Alnwick – a picturesque town with beautiful gardens and a grand medieval castle made famous by the Harry Potter films. We then continue to Edinburgh, arriving around midday. Scotland’s capital has a historic centre recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, with the castle overlooking the city’s steep streets and parks. We’ll take a panoramic tour with a local guide to introduce the main sights.
Day 6 - Edinburgh
Enjoy a full free day in Edinburgh. There are no scheduled activities – you can explore at your own pace, follow your interests and uncover the city’s historic corners as you wish. Take time to relax and set your own timetable. We meet again tomorrow to continue the journey.
Day 7 - Edinburgh - The Kelpies - Stirling - Pitlochry - Culloden - Inverness
Leaving Edinburgh, we pause to photograph The Kelpies – striking horse head sculptures rooted in Scottish folklore – before continuing to Stirling. Its historic centre is dominated by Stirling Castle, one of Scotland’s most important fortresses, and we include a visit inside. We then travel north to Pitlochry, a picturesque town in a region where most of Scotland’s whisky is produced – you will have time for lunch and a short stroll. In the afternoon we continue to Culloden, site of a pivotal battle against British forces whose aftermath brought laws that suppressed Highland culture. We arrive in Inverness in the evening, the capital of the Highlands, where the castle overlooks the River Ness – you might like to enjoy a riverside walk across the suspension bridge. Note: depending on the time of year and daylight, the stop at Culloden may be moved to Monday.
Day 8 - Inverness
We set out from Inverness for a full day among the Highlands’ forests, lochs and wide open landscapes. Our first stop is Eilean Donan Castle – admission included – beautifully positioned on the water. We then continue to Fort Augustus to view the sluice gates, with time for you to have lunch and take a short stroll. In the afternoon we head to Loch Ness for an included boat cruise on its dark waters, followed by a visit to the medieval ruins of Urquhart Castle – admission included. Back in Inverness, at the mouth of Loch Ness, we visit a traditional whisky distillery for a guided tour and tasting – both included – to learn how Scotland’s national drink is crafted from barley and widely exported. We stay in Inverness tonight. Note: The distillery visit may be scheduled late on Sunday or on Monday, subject to ticket availability.
Day 9 - Inverness - Fort William - Inveraray - Loch Lomond - Glasgow
Another day of striking Highland scenery as we travel south. We pause in Spean Bridge to visit a Second World War memorial, then continue to Fort William, the main gateway to Ben Nevis – the highest mountain in the United Kingdom. We pass the atmospheric ruins of Kilchurn Castle beside a dark loch before reaching Inveraray, a historic village on Loch Fyne known for its grand castle and quiet streets. We stop here for lunch, and you can take a short stroll.In the afternoon we follow the shores of Loch Lomond and arrive in Glasgow in the evening, where you’ll have time to explore the vibrant city centre.
Day 10 - Glasgow - Belfast - Dublin
We leave Glasgow and drive south to Cairnryan, where we board the ferry across the Irish Sea to Northern Ireland. On arrival in Belfast – the capital of Northern Ireland, long shaped by its historical religious divisions – we continue by road into Ireland, reaching Dublin by the end of the day.
Day 11 - Dublin
We start the day with a panoramic tour of Dublin, taking in the River Liffey, its parks, the historic university area and the lively central streets – including an exterior view of Trinity College. The afternoon is free for you to explore at your own pace. Note – depending on our arrival time in Dublin and daylight hours, the tour may run the previous afternoon.
Day 12 - Dublin - Caernarfon - Liverpool
We leave early for the ferry from Dublin to Wales – a crossing of around three to three and a half hours. On arrival, we continue to Caernarfon, a coastal town dominated by its impressive castle and recognised as a World Heritage Site. You’ll have free time here for lunch and a stroll. We then head to Liverpool for a short orientation by bus around this historic port city. If you wish, you can visit The Beatles Museum during your free time.
Day 13 - Liverpool - Stratford - Oxford - London
From Liverpool we journey through central England, stopping first in Stratford-upon-Avon, Shakespeare’s hometown – you’ll have free time here for lunch and to explore. We then continue to Oxford, renowned for its history of learning and culture, which has shaped kings, politicians, philosophers and scientists. We end the day in London, arriving in the evening.
Day 14 - London
After breakfast, we conclude our journey in London – our services end here. We hope you leave with lasting memories of your trip.
