Itinerary
Day 1 - Lima
Upon arrival at Lima Airport, our representative will meet you and transfer you to your hotel in the city. Lima, Peru’s capital, is a vibrant metropolis blending modern life with rich history, currently experiencing dynamic cultural and economic growth. You may choose to rest and recover from your journey or explore the city at your leisure to get your first impression of Lima’s bustling atmosphere. Alternatively, you can join our optional Magic Water Circuit with Dinner – a shared evening tour beginning at 17:30, featuring the world’s largest fountain complex, recognised by Guinness World Records, located in Exhibition Park. The experience includes a water cruise followed by dinner at a local restaurant, with bilingual guide support and transfers provided. Please note this option is unavailable on Sundays and Mondays and lasts approximately four hours. Overnight stay in Lima.
Day 2 - Lima
After breakfast at the hotel, we explore Lima’s historic centre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site rich in colonial architecture. Begin with a guided tour of the colonial downtown, including the Main Square, where the impressive Spanish Empire-era buildings stand. Visit Lima Cathedral, dating back to the 16th century, and then the Casa Aliaga, a colonial mansion granted by Francisco Pizarro to Captain Jeronimo de Aliaga, still owned by the same family today. Next, we head to the traditional district of Pueblo Libre to visit the Larco Museum, housed in a restored viceregal mansion built atop a 7th-century pre-Columbian pyramid. The museum features an extensive collection of pre-Hispanic gold and silver artefacts, as well as notable pieces of erotic art. The afternoon is yours to enjoy at leisure. Overnight in Lima.
Day 3 - Lima - Cusco
After breakfast, we transfer you from your hotel to Lima Airport for your flight to Cusco. Please note that your domestic flight must arrive in Cusco by 10:30 to allow time for the day’s activities; flights arriving around noon are too late. Upon arrival, a representative will welcome you and escort you to your hotel. In the afternoon, we take you on a guided tour of Cusco, the former capital of the Inca Empire. The tour begins at the Santo Domingo Convent, a Renaissance-Baroque complex built atop the Inca Coricancha temple—once one of the most important sun worship sites, with its foundations still visible beneath the convent. Next, visit Cusco’s Cathedral, the dominant monument on the Main Square. We then head to the hills overlooking the city to explore the fortress of Sacsayhuaman, known for its massive stone walls and panoramic views. Nearby, visit Qenqo, an archaeological site believed to have been used for agricultural rituals, followed by Puka Pukara (‘Red Fortress’ in Quechua), an Inca military complex featuring dwellings, baths, aqueducts, walls and towers. After the tour, we return you to your hotel. Please note that your flight to Cusco is not included. Overnight in Cusco.
Day 4 - Cusco - Maras - Cusco
After breakfast, we depart from Cusco and travel through the Sacred Valley to the archaeological site of Moray, about an hour and a half away. Moray features a series of concentric circular terraces, each with a distinct microclimate, though its exact purpose remains uncertain. We then continue to Maras to visit the salt ponds, a striking network of thousands of small pools still harvested by local families. These salt deposits were highly valued during Inca times and played a significant role in the imperial economy. After the tour, we return to your hotel in Cusco for the evening.
Day 5 - Cusco - Chinchero - Ollantaytambo - Yucay
After breakfast, we collect you from your hotel in Cusco for a visit to Chinchero, a traditional Andean town perched high above the valley. The local community preserves Inca artisan traditions, evident in their clothing and customs. Here, you will also see archaeological remains and a seventeenth-century church, one of Peru’s earliest Catholic buildings. Next, we transfer you to the Living Museum of Yucay, a cultural centre dedicated to Andean heritage. You will witness demonstrations of traditional crafts such as textile weaving, adobe construction, pottery, and silverwork, recreated as they were in Inca times. The museum is also home to llamas, sheep, and alpacas, which you can feed. Afterwards, arrive in Ollantaytambo, a town continuously inhabited since Inca times. Explore the village and ascend the iconic fortress built beside the mountain. Lunch is served in Ollantaytambo, offering a refined Andean dining experience that captures the spirit of the Sacred Valley in a welcoming setting. On Sundays, the visit includes the local market. After lunch, we transfer you back to your hotel in the Sacred Valley.
Day 6 - Aguas Calientes
After breakfast, we transfer you to Ollanta Station to board the train to Aguas Calientes, the gateway town to Machu Picchu. The journey offers stunning views of the Andean landscape as you travel through the mountains. Upon arrival, you take a short 25-minute coach ride to Machu Picchu. This remarkable Inca citadel, believed to have been built in the 1450s by Emperor Pachacuti as a royal retreat, was abandoned within a century and remained hidden from the Spanish conquerors, preserving its structure. A guided tour reveals the history and key features of this iconic site. Afterwards, return to Aguas Calientes for lunch at Café Inkaterra, a charming thatched-roof restaurant nestled between the railway and the mountains. The afternoon is yours to relax or explore the town at your leisure. Overnight in Aguas Calientes.
Day 7 - Aguas Calientes - Cusco
After breakfast, enjoy a leisurely morning at your own pace. We suggest returning independently to Machu Picchu to explore further attractions—please note that a second entrance ticket and bus transfers between Aguas Calientes and the site are subject to availability. You might choose to hike Huayna Picchu, which rises about 360 metres above the citadel and features an underground temple complex, or visit Inti Punku, the ‘Sun Gate’, offering panoramic views from approximately 390 metres above Machu Picchu (access not included and also subject to availability). Alternatively, you could explore the Inca Bridge, a hidden military trail that once controlled access to the site. In the afternoon, transfer to Aguas Calientes station to board the train back to Ollanta station, where we will meet you for the transfer to your hotel in Cusco.
Day 8 - Cusco
After breakfast, we transfer you from your hotel to the airport for your onward journey.
