Itinerary
Day 1 - Nairobi & Lake Nakuru National Park
Nairobi - Lake Nakuru. Arrive in Nairobi the day prior to the start of the tour. You will be picked up from your hotel before departing for Lake Nakuru National Park.
We travel through the Great Rift Valley en route to the park, an important sanctuary known for its rich birdlife. Lake Nakuru is particularly famous for the large numbers of flamingoes that often gather along the lakeshore, along with many other bird species.
On arrival, we enjoy a game drive as we make our way to our camp or lodge, watching for wildlife along the route. After lunch, we head out again for an afternoon game drive, where we look for rhinos, giraffes and a wide range of birds found within the park.
Day 2 - Discover Lake Naivasha
Lake Nakuru - Lake Naivasha. Today, we depart for Lake Naivasha National Park, leaving Lake Nakuru behind and travelling through Kenya’s rural countryside. We arrive around lunchtime and settle in before the afternoon unfolds at a relaxed pace.
Later in the day, you can choose to unwind by the pool or take part in an optional boat ride on the lake. You may also wish to join an optional nature walk on Crescent Island, a privately protected sanctuary where wildlife roams freely. The island is home to zebra, wildebeest, gazelle, giraffes and waterbuck, along with smaller species such as vervet monkeys, hares and genet cats.
Day 3 - Masai Mara Game Reserve
Lake Naivasha - Masia Mara. This morning, we transfer to the Masai Mara Game Reserve, one of Kenya’s most celebrated wildlife areas. Forming part of the vast Serengeti plains, the reserve is best known for its role in the annual wildebeest and zebra migration and for its exceptional concentration of wildlife.
The Masai Mara is also one of the best places in Africa to look for the Big Five - lion, elephant, leopard, rhino and Cape buffalo. On arrival, we have lunch before heading out on an evening game drive, our first opportunity to explore this remarkable landscape and its wildlife.
We return to our camp later in the day, with time to relax before dinner.
Day 4 - Wildlife & Cultural Experience in Masia Mara
We spend the day immersed in the landscapes of the Masai Mara, one of Kenya’s most wildlife-rich reserves. The open plains support a wide range of animals, including Masai giraffe, buffalo, impala, zebra and gazelles, which we search for across different areas of the reserve.
We head out on both morning and afternoon game drives, allowing us to experience the Mara at different times of day and observe how wildlife moves and behaves across the grasslands.
You may choose to take part in an optional hot air balloon flight at an additional cost, offering a unique perspective over the plains as the day begins.
Later in the afternoon, we visit a Masai village, where we meet members of the local community and learn about their daily life, customs and music. We then join a guided nature walk with a Masai naturalist, who introduces us to plants and herbs traditionally used for medicinal purposes and explains how they are prepared.
In the evening, we return to the village for a campfire gathering with singing and dancing. We listen to stories shared by the village chief, gaining insight into Masai culture and traditions. We enjoy dinner at the village, and you may also choose to stay overnight in an authentic Masai-style home with beds, located at the campsite and subject to availability, before returning to your accommodation.
Day 5 - Final game drive & transfer to Nairobi
Masai Mara - Nairobi. After our final breakfast, we set out on our last game drive as we travel back towards Nairobi, making the most of our final time in the wilderness.
On arrival in the city, the remainder of the day is at leisure. You can enjoy some last-minute assisted shopping or sightseeing before making your way to the airport for your onward flight. Safe travels!
