Manaus - Amazon Jungle. We begin our jungle adventure with a morning transfer to CEASA harbour, where we board a speedboat and cruise past the striking ‘Meeting of the Waters’, where the dark Rio Negro flows beside the sandy Solimoes without mixing.
At Careiro village, we switch to a van for a scenic drive through the rainforest, followed by another boat journey along narrow waterways to our lodge tucked deep in the Amazon.
After a welcome and hearty lunch, we head out by canoe to try piranha fishing and look for pink river dolphins gliding through the shallows. After dinner, we return to the water for a nocturnal cayman-spotting tour—our guide may even give us the chance to hold one of the smaller ones.
We fall asleep tonight surrounded by the sounds of the jungle, deep in the heart of the Amazon.
We’re up before dawn to watch the sun rise over the jungle canopy, listening as the forest comes alive. A guided birdwatching walk reveals flashes of colour in the treetops as toucans, parrots and other tropical birds stir.
After breakfast at the lodge, we venture out on a jungle trek to learn about medicinal plants and traditional survival techniques. In the Juma Lake region, we keep our eyes open for monkeys, sloths and other hidden wildlife.
Following lunch, we prepare for an unforgettable night in the rainforest. We set off into the jungle to camp under the trees, learning to read the forest by night, spear fishing and listening for nocturnal creatures.
Waking to a jungle breakfast cooked by our guide, we begin the day surrounded by rainforest sounds. Then we visit a local caboclo family to learn about rural life in the Amazon. We see how manioc flour is made and gain a deeper insight into local traditions.
Returning to the lodge for lunch, we later head out by paddle canoe to explore the flooded forest. We drift silently through still creeks, with our guide pointing out wildlife and plants found only in this unique environment.
We return to the lodge at sunset to relax after another memorable day.
Amazon Jungle - Manaus. This morning we discover the history of the Amazon’s rubber boom during a visit to a local rubber tapper. We see how latex is extracted from the trees using traditional methods and hear how this shaped the region’s past.
After a final lunch at the lodge, we retrace our route back to Manaus—by boat, van and speedboat - taking in the last sights of the rainforest as we journey out of the jungle.
