Itinerary
Day 1 - Istanbul to Gallipoli & Canakkale
We depart Istanbul early for the Gallipoli Peninsula – one of Turkey’s most poignant sites. We visit the First World War battlefields, including the Lone Pine and Chunuk Bair memorials, ANZAC Cove, Johnston’s Jolly, the Nek, and original trenches and tunnels.
Day 2 - Troy & Pergamon
From Çanakkale we continue to Troy to explore the ancient city – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – and the new, award–winning Troy Museum. We continue to Bergama to visit the magnificent Acropolis of Pergamon – once a major cultural and political centre – before heading on to Kuşadası.
Day 3 - Exploring Ephesus
We delve into history on a guided tour of Ephesus and the site of the Temple of Artemis. We soak up the atmosphere of the ancient city and theatre before visiting the Ephesus Archaeology Museum, home to an impressive collection of artefacts from the region. At a carpet village, we learn how carpets are made by hand and what determines their value.
Day 4 - Pamukkale & Hierapolis
This morning we enjoy a display of locally handcrafted leather goods, then continue to the gleaming white travertine terraces of Pamukkale, where we also tour the ancient city of Hierapolis. You can take a dip among ancient columns in the hot springs – famed since Roman times for their therapeutic powers.
Day 5 - Konya & Cappadocia
Today we journey along the ancient Silk Road, visiting the Sultanhani Caravanserai and the Mevlana Museum in Konya on our way to Cappadocia. This evening you can opt to join a traditional Turkish folklore show.
Day 6 - Exploring Cappadocia
We marvel at Cappadocia’s lunar landscapes as we explore the Goreme Valley Open Air Museum, the fairy chimneys, and the many levels of an underground city.
Day 7 - Ankara & Istanbul
We depart early for the capital, Ankara, to visit Anıtkabir – the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk – before returning to Istanbul. We arrive at approximately 7 pm, when the tour concludes.
