Itinerary

Day 1 - Into the Lake District

Manchester - Ambleside - Ullswater - Keswick. From Manchester, we head north into the Lake District National Park, stopping first in the picturesque town of Ambleside. We then head to the highest pass in the Lake District, Kirkstone, for some photos, before tracing the shores of Ullswater. Here, we can take a forest walk to witness the majestic Aira Force waterfall, and admire the beauty of England's most stunning lake. Our final stop is Friar's Crag, offering amazing views over the lake of Derwentwater.

Our journey concludes in Keswick, a lively market town where we're free to explore its charming streets and settle into our accommodation.

Please note: Check-in closes at 09:45 (tour departs at 10:00) - Coach Parking Bays, Manchester Piccadilly, Store Street (Broad Street intersection), Manchester, M1 2WD

Day 2 - Wordsworth & Windermere

Keswick - Castlerigg - Grasmere - Lake Windermere - Hawkshead - Keswick. On today's excursion, our first stop is the mysterious Castlerigg standing stones, believed to be over 5,000 years old and steeped in ancient pagan history. Following our exploration, we travel north to Grasmere, described by Wordsworth as "the loveliest spot that man hath found". Enjoy free time to visit Wordsworth’s Dove Cottage, sample the famous gingerbread, or relax in the Wordsworth Daffodil Garden.

Next we visit Bowness-on -Windermere, a town sitting on the shore of Lake Windermere. There's free time and an included boat cruise on the lake.

We continue exploring other sights in the area, including the Langdale Boulders and the village of Hawkshead, before returning to Keswick.

Accommodation: The Edwardene, Elm Tree Lodge, Seven Oaks Guest House or similar.

Overnight: Keswick

Day 3 - Exploring Cumbria & return to Manchester

Keswick - Buttermere - Bowder Crag - Keswick - Ullswater - Kendal - Manchester. We head out to explore some more of the Cumbrian countryside, passing Crummock Water and Buttermere, then heading up into the Honister Mountain Pass. We stop at an old slate working and at the enormous Bowder Stone, which fell 200 metres from the Bowder Crag to its current resting place about 10,000 years ago! It's thought to weigh 2,000 tonnes, so lets hope nobody was stood underneath it when it fell!

We return to Keswick for a final time so you can grab some lunch before we enjoy a walk along the shore of Ullswater. Then it's time to head back to Manchester, with a final stop in the market town of Kendal on our way back.

Please note: This tour ends at 18:30 - Manchester Piccadilly(Store Street) Drop Off, Manchester Piccadilly Station, Store Street, Manchester, M1 2WD.

Accommodation

The hotels listed below are ones which we frequently use on this tour. We reserve the right to substitute these hotels to ones of a similar standard.
Bed & Breakfast
Keswick

On this tour, you will stay in bed and breakfast properties (B&Bs). These are usually smaller residential properties, with just a handful of guest rooms. You’ll have a bedroom, bathroom and often, access to a communal dining room for breakfast. Rooms will always be clean and comfortable, with a private bathroom. Bathrooms are usually en-suite, but on rare occasions, access may be via a communal hallway. This means that the bathroom will still be private and only for your personal use, but it is not en-suite (located in the room). You will need to leave the room to use the bathroom.
