Itinerary
Day 1 - Cancun - Merida
We journey from Cancún to Mérida – Yucatán’s vibrant capital that blends colonial and Maya heritage. We visit Mérida’s fortified cathedral, the limestone Church of the Third Order and Casa de Montejo, a 16th century mansion showcasing Plateresque architecture. The afternoon is free – you might visit the Mayan World Museum independently. In the evening we include a transfer to the Zócalo so you can enjoy dinner and the lively local atmosphere. Overnight in Mérida.
Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Merida - Izamal - Chichen Itza - Rio Lagartos
We travel across Yucatán, stopping in Izamal – one of Mexico’s prettiest cities and a Magic Town. In Chichén Itzá we include admission and a visit to this World Heritage Site, taking in the pyramid of Kukulcán and the Temple of the Warriors. After the visit we include a Mayan cuisine lunch. We then continue to Río Lagartos, a small fishing village within a biosphere reserve.
Day 3 - Rio Lagartos - Cenote Choj Ha - Cancun
Nature takes centre stage today. In the morning we include a boat ride of over two hours into the biosphere reserve to spot crocodiles in the mangroves and abundant birdlife, including pelicans and pink flamingos. We also try the mud experience – applying mineral rich mud that exfoliates the skin and leaves it feeling soft. We then travel to Valladolid, the third largest city in Yucatán with a charming historic centre, where you can have lunch in one of the restaurants on the main square. In the afternoon we visit Cenote Choj Ha, managed by the local Maya community – we follow a short jungle path to explore its dry cave and you can swim in the beautiful lake inside the wet cave. We continue to Cancún, arriving late afternoon.
Day 4 - Cancun
Our services end after breakfast – if you wish to extend your stay, you can spend a few more days relaxing on the beautiful beaches of Cancún or the Riviera Maya.
