Southern Namibia Highlights

We meet you at 08:30 at your Windhoek accommodation, where your English speaking guide welcomes you, assists with luggage and leads you to the safari vehicle. We take a short sightseeing drive through the capital to view its German turn of the century architecture, including the Tintenpalast and Christuskirche, and travel along Independence Avenue where colonial houses stand beside modern post independence buildings. We then head south via Rehoboth and Kalkrand into the dune landscape of the Kalahari Desert. On arrival, we check in and you have time to relax. In the late afternoon we join an included game drive, departing before sunset to take in panoramic Kalahari views with a cold drink as the sun sinks in the west. We return for dinner at the lodge. Wake very early and breathe in the cool morning air as we set out on a sunrise game drive, watching the desert awaken as the sun rises over the dunes. Breakfast is served on our return to the lodge, after which you have the rest of the day at leisure. If you wish, you can join an evening sundowner game drive – this is optional and not included – and your guide will gladly arrange it for you. Savour dinner at the lodge. Overnight in Mariental.

After breakfast, we continue south into the Namib Desert. Travelling via Mariental, Maltahöhe and Sesriem, we reach the Namib–Naukluft Park region in the early afternoon and check in, with time to settle in and take in the desert surroundings. As evening approaches, we head out for sundowners to watch the sunset over the sweeping landscapes – a memorable end to the day. Dinner is served at the hotel. Overnight in Sossusvlei.

Before dawn we set out with coffee or tea for the sand sea of Sossusvlei. We explore the area and have time to climb one of the world’s highest sand dunes. We return to the lodge in the early afternoon – you then have the rest of the day at leisure. Dinner is served at the hotel. Overnight in Sossusvlei.

After a leisurely breakfast, we continue west through the Namib Naukluft Park via Solitaire and Walvis Bay. Solitaire’s name reflects both a single diamond and the solitude of the area – a fitting pause in this remote landscape. Walvis Bay is Namibia’s main harbour town. By afternoon we reach Swakopmund, following a striking route with the Namib’s towering dunes to one side and the Benguela current running along the coastline. We check in and you have time to freshen up after a day on sandy roads and rocky mountain passes. Later you can join an optional city tour – not included – or simply explore this seaside town on foot at your own pace.Overnight in Swakopmund.

Spend the day in Swakopmund at your own pace. You can choose from a range of optional activities – not included – such as a catamaran cruise on the Walvis Bay lagoon with oysters and sparkling wine served on board, the famous Living Desert tour, or a quad biking excursion into the dunes. Alternatively, visit the Crystal Gallery to see the largest crystals in the world, or join a guided fatbike tour through town or into the dunes. In the evening, dine at one of Swakopmund's popular restaurants at your own expense, and as the day draws to a close you could climb the dunes to watch the sunset over the ocean. After dinner we join an included evening excursion – drinks are for your own account – and you bid your tour guide farewell. Overnight in Swakopmund.

After breakfast, we check out and depart Swakopmund on an early morning transfer east. We travel via Usakos, Karibib and Okahandja, continue through Windhoek and proceed to Hosea Kutako International Airport – or we drop you at your Windhoek accommodation.
