01 Where the northern lights appear
Northern lights tours head for the auroral oval, a ring of activity centred on the magnetic pole. It passes over Iceland, northern Scandinavia, Alaska and northern Canada. Inside the oval, the aurora is active on many dark nights. Further south, you usually need a strong solar storm to see it.
- About 65 to 72 degrees north
- Clear, dark skies away from towns
