Day 1 - Lisbon - Lisboa
Upon arrival at Lisbon International Airport, you will be welcomed by a tour representative who will assist you with collecting your rental car, travel instructions and documents. The remainder of the day is yours to explore Lisbon at your own pace. As Europe’s second oldest capital after Athens, Lisbon offers a rich tapestry of history, from its role as home to some of the world’s greatest explorers to its vibrant cultural landmarks. The city’s blend of classic and unexpected sights, alongside its scenic setting, makes it ideal for walking and photography. When ready, drive to your hotel and check in for your first night in Lisbon.
Day 2 - Lisbon - Évora - Alter do Chão
After breakfast, drive from Lisbon to Alter do Ch?o for your overnight stay. We recommend taking the route via ?vora, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its rich architecture, local cuisine and traditional crafts. ?vora's narrow streets reflect its Moorish origins, while its sunlit squares reveal layers of history spanning two millennia. Take time to appreciate the city's unique blend of cultural influences before continuing to Alter do Ch?o.
Day 3 - Alter do Chão - Castelo de Vide - Tomar - Coimbra
After breakfast, set off from Alter do Ch?o towards Coimbra. Before you leave, take time to explore Castelo de Vide, a charming village rich in history. On the way to Coimbra, pause in Tomar, once the headquarters of the Knights Templar. Here, you can visit the Convent of Christ, a remarkable example of Portuguese Renaissance architecture and a highlight of the city's artistic and cultural heritage. Arrive in Coimbra in the evening and settle in for the night.
Day 4 - Coimbra - Oporto - Porto
After breakfast, explore Coimbra’s historic centre on foot or by car, visiting its renowned university and library. Coimbra is one of Portugal’s oldest cities, rich with layers of history visible throughout its streets. Afterwards, drive through the enchanting Bussaco Forest, home to around 700 tree species. At its heart stands the neo-Manueline Bussaco Palace, a striking example of smaller European palaces. Continue your journey to Porto, where you will spend the night.
Day 5 - Oporto - Guimarães - Oporto - Porto
After a leisurely breakfast at the hotel, take the day to relax and explore Porto at your own pace. This vibrant city, Portugal's second largest, is perched on hills overlooking the Douro River and boasts a UNESCO World Heritage-listed historic centre filled with remarkable architecture and monuments. Wander through its charming streets to experience a blend of old and new, from medieval buildings to contemporary culture. Alternatively, you may choose to drive to Guimar?es, another UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its well-preserved medieval centre, timber-framed houses, and rich history. Return to Porto for your overnight stay.
Day 6 - Oporto - Espinho - Ovar - Aveiro - Figueira Da Foz - Coimbra
After breakfast, set off along the coast towards Coimbra, making the most of several charming stops en route. Visit Espinho, a small fishing village known for its golden beaches and traditional boats resting on the sand. Continue to Ovar, famed for its production of azulejos?traditional Portuguese tiles with origins in Arab art?and sample its renowned P?o de L? sponge cake, a recipe dating back to the 18th century. Then explore Aveiro, often called the Portuguese Venice, where you can admire the striking Art Deco fa?ades and picturesque canals in the city centre. If time allows, visit the nearby seaside resort of Figueira da Foz before arriving in Coimbra to check in for the night.
Day 7 - Coimbra - Sintra - Lisbon - Lisboa
After breakfast, begin your journey back to Lisbon at a relaxed pace, taking time to enjoy the scenic Portuguese countryside. We suggest a stop in Sintra, a captivating town known for its charming historic centre and the impressive Royal Palace. Upon arrival in Lisbon, check in to your hotel and spend the afternoon at leisure. You might explore the city on foot, browse its quaint shops, or sample the famous Pastéis de Belém pastries. Consider visiting São Jorge Castle to connect with Lisbon's rich history and enjoy panoramic views over the city, perhaps accompanied by a glass of local wine. Finish the day with dinner in one of Lisbon's inviting neighbourhood restaurants. Overnight in Lisbon.
Day 8 - Lisbon - Lisboa
After breakfast at your hotel, prepare for your departure. Drive to Lisbon Airport, return your rental car, and check in for your flight home. This concludes your journey through Portugal.
