Trips and Tours to Mai Chau
About Mai Chau
Mai Chau is just 135km from Hanoi and yet far removed from the hustle and bustle of city life. Nestled in a picturesque, lush green valley, Mai Chau is a wonderful place to relax and get off the beaten track to enjoy northwest Vietnam’s spectacular scenery. Mai Chau is pre dominantly inhabited by the warm and friendly White Thai people, although the colourful Sunday market brings in people from different minorities, who live in the mountains and come to trade their goods and enjoy traditional dancing. As usual you’ll find an array of locally produced handicrafts and traditional clothing for sale but the locals here have adopted a refreshing soft sell approach.
Read MoreWhilst this peaceful little town holds little appeal itself, the surrounding minority villages, lush paddy fields and fertile rival valleys are the real draw-card. Another local attraction is the thatched-roof stilt houses, with bamboo floors and a stay in one of these is a wonderful experience. The best way to explore this beautiful area is on foot and Mai Chau is the ideal base for leisurely walks and trekking. Catering for all levels of fitness, there are a number of scenic routes available, varying from a relaxed stroll through the rice fields to strenuous treks to remote mountain villages such as Xa Linh. Mountain biking is also a popular way to enjoy the great outdoors.
