Itinerary
Day 1 - Arrival in Xi’an
On arrival in Xi’an, we are met by our local guide and driver before transferring to the hotel, a journey of around one hour. The remainder of the day is at leisure, allowing you to rest after your journey or begin exploring the city at your own pace.
Day 2 - The Terracotta Warriors
After breakfast at the hotel, we are picked up from the lobby and begin the day with a visit to a Terracotta Warriors Museum factory, offering insight into the traditional techniques used to recreate these iconic figures.
We then visit the Terracotta Warriors Museum, widely regarded as the eighth wonder of the world. This extraordinary collection of life-sized warriors, horses, chariots and weapons was created by thousands of artisans and buried with Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China, who died in 210 BC. Since their chance discovery in 1974, around 2,000 figures have been excavated, with estimates suggesting up to 8,000 in total. This vast silent army is one of China’s most remarkable archaeological treasures.
Lunch is served at a local restaurant, followed by a stroll through the lively Muslim Quarter, where you can experience the atmosphere of Xi’an’s historic trading community and browse local food stalls and shops.
We then return to the hotel. Dinner is at your own arrangement.
Day 3 - Imperial Walls, Pagodas and Historic Towers
Following breakfast, we visit the Ancient City Wall of Xi’an, one of the oldest, largest and best-preserved city walls in China. Originally built for defence, it now offers an impressive perspective over both the historic and modern city.
We then pay our respects at the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, closed on Tuesdays, a peaceful Buddhist site that provides a calm contrast to the city’s busier landmarks. The visit also includes the nearby Xi’an Museum, closed on Tuesdays, where exhibits trace the city’s long and influential history.
Lunch is at a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, we visit the Bell Tower and Drum Tower, dating back to the Ming dynasty from 1368 to 1644. In ancient times, the bell was rung at dawn and the drum sounded at dusk to mark the passing of the day. Located at the very centre of the city, these towers once connected the four main roads running east, south, west and north within the city walls.
We return to the hotel in the late afternoon. Dinner is at your own leisure.
Day 4 - Farewell Xi’an
After breakfast, the morning is at leisure until we transfer to the airport or railway station for your onward journey.
