Day 1 - Liberia - Tamarindo
Your Costa Rican adventure begins on arrival at Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport in Liberia, located in the country's northwest. Upon landing, a representative will be there to welcome you before you transfer to Tamarindo Beach for your first night. Tamarindo offers a lively atmosphere and is an ideal place to start your holiday. Settle in and enjoy your evening by the coast. Overnight in Tamarindo.
Day 2 - Tamarindo - Samara
After a hearty breakfast, we check out of the hotel and take a shared transfer to Samara. This charming beach town is known for its relaxed atmosphere and stunning half-moon bay, featuring a long stretch of white sand lined with graceful palm trees. You will have the rest of the day at leisure to unwind and enjoy the tranquil surroundings. Overnight in Samara.
Day 3 - Samara
After breakfast at the hotel, we set out on an ocean safari that includes a boat tour and snorkelling. This adventure offers the chance to admire the striking coastal scenery and spot local marine life such as dolphins, whales or sea turtles. Once back on land, you return to the hotel where the rest of the day is yours to relax and enjoy the surroundings and hotel facilities at your leisure. Overnight in Samara.
Day 4 - Samara - Tambor
After breakfast, we take a shared transfer from Samara to Tambor Beach. Nestled in the valley of a large, tranquil horseshoe-shaped bay known as Bahia Ballena, or "Whale Bay", Tambor is a peaceful fishing village with a wide, secluded beach. Its calm setting makes it a popular retreat for those seeking a quiet escape. You will have the rest of the day at leisure to relax at the hotel, wander along the shore, or explore the surrounding area independently. Overnight in Tambor.
Day 5 - Tambor
After breakfast, enjoy a full day at leisure to relax at your hotel or on the stunning beach. You can take part in a variety of activities available locally or explore the charming surrounding area at your own pace. Overnight in Tambor.
Day 6 - San Jose
After breakfast, we will collect you for a shared transfer to San Jose, arriving in the capital early afternoon. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure to explore the city at your own pace. Wander through San Jose's well-planned streets, visit landmarks that interest you, and discover the vibrant cafes and restaurants that give the city its lively character. Overnight in San Jose.
Day 7 - San Jose - Tortuguero
We start early at around 06:00, travelling by bus through Braulio Carrillo National Park towards the Caribbean plains, taking in the striking mountain scenery and charming villages along the way. En route, we enjoy a tasty breakfast before continuing through the jungle by boat, cruising the rivers and canals of Tortuguero National Park. Upon arrival, we check in at our eco-lodge and have lunch there. Later, we board the boat again to visit Tortuguero village, where you can stroll through the town, experience local life, and walk along the beach. During the turtle hatching season (from September to December)we may witness baby turtles making their way to the ocean. The rest of the day is yours to relax at the lodge, surrounded by tropical forest and abundant wildlife. Overnight in Tortuguero.
Day 8 - Tortuguero
Today is a day to unwind and explore Tortuguero National Park at your own pace. Spend the morning relaxing by the pool before joining a three-hour guided boat tour through the park's waterways. This excursion offers excellent opportunities to spot over 350 protected species, including colourful birds, monkeys, crocodiles, and sloths, amid the lush tropical vegetation. If you are visiting between July and September, you may choose to join an optional late-night turtle nesting tour, available to book directly at the lodge. Enjoy a peaceful evening surrounded by the sounds of the rainforest. Overnight in Tortuguero.
Day 9 - Sarapiqui
After breakfast, we transfer to Guapiles for a pleasant lunch stop. Afterwards, we continue by shared transfer to Sarapiqui, located just north of San Jose. Nestled in the foothills of Braulio Carrillo National Park and surrounded by mountain streams, lush rainforest, and pasturelands, this area offers a refreshing change of scenery. You will stay for two nights in a comfortable lodge featuring thoughtfully designed rooms, providing a peaceful base from which to explore the mysteries of the rainforest. Overnight in Sarapiqui.
Day 10 - Sarapiqui
After a hearty breakfast, we set off on a floating safari along the Sarapiqui River, where you can admire the rich variety of flora and fauna nestled within the rainforest. Returning to the lodge, the rest of the day is yours to relax and enjoy the tranquil surroundings or to join one of the optional activities available. You may choose to experience rafting on the Sarapiqui River, navigating class II-III rapids through lush tropical forest - a thrilling way to connect with nature. Alternatively, the chocolate tour offers a 2.5-hour guided walk through the Tirimbina forest and a former cacao plantation, revealing the traditional cultivation and cultural history of chocolate. For a different perspective, the canopy tour lets you explore the treetops via zip lines, providing an exhilarating view of Sarapiqui's diverse ecosystem. Day 11 - San Carlos
After breakfast, we travel from Sarapiqui to Arenal, a renowned destination for adventure enthusiasts and home to one of Costa Rica's most active volcanoes. You will have the afternoon at leisure to explore the area independently or join an optional activity. Choose from a Canopy Tour at Arenal Ecoglide Park, where you'll experience 15 cables and 18 platforms among the treetops, including the thrilling Tarzan Swing. Alternatively, enjoy a kayaking excursion on Lake Arenal, where guides provide equipment and instruction before leading you along the shoreline with views of the volcano and opportunities to spot local birdlife and possibly howler monkeys. For a more relaxing option, you may visit the stunning Tabacon Hot Springs. Optional activities are not included. Overnight in Arenal.
Day 12 - San Carlos
After breakfast, join a guided walking tour of Arenal Volcano National Park. Your guide will explain the volcano's periods of activity as you explore the lush surroundings and keep an eye out for wildlife such as sloths, howler monkeys, and anteaters. Return to the hotel in the afternoon to relax, explore the area independently, or take part in an optional activity. You may wish to revisit the Canopy Tour at Arenal Ecoglide, enjoy kayaking on Arenal Lake, or unwind at the renowned Tabacon Hot Springs. Optional activities are not included. Overnight in Arenal.
Day 13 - Monteverde
After breakfast, we depart for Monteverde, travelling along the edge of Arenal Lake. Upon arrival in Rio Chiquito, you will transfer to your hotel. Monteverde, located in Puntarenas province, is known for its cloud forests, coffee plantations, abundant wildlife, and welcoming local community. The nearby town of Santa Elena is small and charming, offering a selection of restaurants and artisan shops. The surrounding rainforest is rich in biodiversity. You will have the day at leisure to explore independently or join optional activities such as the Selvatura Treetop Walkway guided tour, which features eight suspension bridges spanning 3 kilometres, providing a unique view above the rainforest canopy. Alternatively, you may prefer the Don Juan Coffee Tour, which offers insight into Costa Rica's coffee, chocolate, and sugar cane production, with a focus on coffee and local folklore. Optional activities are not included. Overnight in Monteverde.
Day 14 - Monteverde
After a nourishing breakfast, we take a guided hike through the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. Established in 1972, this renowned reserve protects 2.5% of the world's biodiversity and is a vital site for conservation and scientific research. As we explore, you'll encounter a rich variety of wildlife - including mammals, birds, amphibians, and insects - alongside diverse plant life such as mosses, vines, and native cloud forest trees. The afternoon is yours to relax or join an optional tour you may have missed yesterday. Whether you choose the Selvatura Treetop Walkway to experience the forest canopy or the Don Juan Coffee Tour to learn about Costa Rica's coffee culture, your day promises to be memorable. Please note that entrance fees to the reserve and optional activities are not included. Overnight in Monteverde.
Day 15 - Monteverde - Liberia
After breakfast, we transfer you privately from Monteverde to Liberia International Airport for your onward flight home or to begin any beach extension you may have planned. Breakfast is included.
