Itinerary

Day 1

Cairo

Friday. Welcome to Egypt and the start of a wonderful holiday! Arrive Cairo airport, meet and greet service and included transfer to your 5 star hotel, located at the foot of the Great Pyramids of Giza.
Overnight: Cairo

Day 2

Egyptian Museum

We start with the dazzling antiquities at the Egyptian Museum. Amongst the many exhibits are the treasures of King Tutankhamun. This afternoon offers free time to relax and enjoy the hotel facilities or join us for an optional city tour visiting old Cairo and the Islamic citadel.
Overnight: Cairo  |  Breakfast

Day 3

Pyramids of Giza

Cairo - Luxor. Today we visit Egypt's most loved sight - The Great Pyramids of Giza. We explore the Giza plateau, pyramids and massive Sphinx. Later, we tour Saqqara - an ancient necropolis with many half-buried tombs and the famous Zhoser’s step pyramid. Tonight we take an overnight sleeper cabin train south to Luxor.

If you don't fancy travelling by overnight sleeper train, opt to undertake the journey by flight with our Jewel of the Nile Flight Upgrade. The option includes air travel between Cairo - Luxor and Aswan - Cairo with two nights accommodation in the comfort of 5 star hotels.
Overnight: Sleeper Train  |  Breakfast, Dinner

Day 4

Valley of the Kings

The massive pair of statues known as the Colossi of Memnon are the first monuments you’ll see during our morning visit to the West Bank - home to the legendary Valley of the Kings. You’ll also see the colonnaded Temple of Queen Hatshepsut. Return to Luxor for check-in on board our Nile 5 star cruiser. Lunch at leisure and time to relax until our early evening visit to the Temple of Luxor. Luxor Temple looks stunning at dusk and is beautifully illuminated at night.

Note: Dependent upon Nile Cruiser scheduling it maybe required that we also undertake our excursion to Karnak Temple this afternoon. Should this occur, day 5 will be spent at leisure.
Overnight: Nile Cruising  |  Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 5

Luxor & Nile Cruising

Luxor - Nile cruising. This morning we tour the ancient city of Thebes (the East Bank), taking in the magnificent Temple of Karnak. More than a temple, Karnak is a gigantic and stunning complex of sanctuaries and pylons dedicated to the Theban gods. Anchors away this afternoon as we set sail downstream to Esna and the Temple of Horus at Edfu.
Overnight: Nile Cruising  |  Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 6

Cruising & Kom Ombo

Nile cruising. Relax as we sail the Nile. Later today we visit the Temple of Kom Ombo. A unique riverside temple, it is unusual in that everything architecturally is doubled and perfectly symmetrical along the main axis of the temple including twin halls, courts, colonnades, sanctuaries and entrances. Arrive Aswan, a prosperous town at the crossroads of the ancient caravan routes late evening.
Overnight: Nile Cruising  |  Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 7

The Philae Temple

Nile cruiser - Aswan. Today, we enjoy a short boat trip to Agilika Island for Philae Temple - dedicated to the goddess Isis. The temple dates from 4th century BC but the Ptolomies and the Romans up to 3rd century AD built most of the existing structures. In danger of being completely submerged by the rising water of Lake Nasser, in 1972 UNESCO stepped in and an 8-year rescue effort was undertaken to relocate the entire temple 20m higher on nearby Agilika Island.

After lunch, we visit the High Dam and take a felucca sailing trip to Elephantine and Kitchener Island. As the sun sets, free time to shop in the colourful souqs and markets or simply relax and watch an amazing sunset in Egypt’s southern most town straddling the River Nile.
Overnight: Nile Cruising  |  Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 8

Optional excursion to Abu Simbel

Aswan - Cairo. Consider the optional early morning air excursion to the Temple of Ramses II at Abu Simbel or time to relax. Late this afternoon, we board the overnight sleeper train for our journey back to Cairo. A light dinner is served on board.
Overnight: Sleeper Train  |  Breakfast, Dinner

Day 9

Cairo

This morning have breakfast in your train cabin and upon arrival into Cairo transfer to the hotel and check in. Today is free for you to enjoy the hotel facilities or explore Cairo independently. Perhaps head to Khan el-Khalili bazaar and pick up a few souvenirs or join our optional Cairo city tour which is available to book locally.
Overnight: Cairo  |  Breakfast

Day 10

Cairo

Sunday. Tour ends after breakfast. Included onward transfer to airport.

Sun Festival Tours

If you are planning on travelling with us in February 2018 or October 2018, consider our Jewel of the Nile Sun Festival or Ramses Sunrise tours. These tours include arrangements similar to those of our Jewel of the Nile with the added highlight of witnessing the Sun Festival of King Ramses II at Abu Simbel on 22 February 2018 or 22 October 2018.

Ramses II had his grand temple carefully angled and oriented in order that the sun's rays would align twice a year on the date of his ascension to the throne (21 February) and on his birthday (21 October) and illuminate the inner sanctum of the temple. This incredible natural phenomenon provides for a most spectacular sight as the sun illuminates the 3 statues of the living world, whilst the statute of Ptah - the god of darkness - remains in the shadows. The temple was re-located in a multi-million dollar operation in 1972, further up from the shoreline of Lake Nasser. In the temples new position the sun now strikes a day later than Ramses had originally planned.

Includes: Coach from Aswan to Abu Simbel early morning on the day of the festival. Guided visit to Abu Simbel, the sunrise event, entrance fees and visitor ticket for this excursion. Return coach journey to Aswan after the event.

WOW, what at trip!! I can highly recommend On The Go Tours for your Egyptian adventure.

From beginning to end it was superb.

Our Cairo guide Ahmed was a lovely young man. He made us feel very welcome and at ease on our arrival.

Our guide for the remainder of the trip was Halel and we feel we were very lucky to have had him. He went above and beyond to make our trip memorable and nothing was too much trouble ever. He had a wealth of knowledge but never overloaded us with too much information.

Thank you to Halel and all the team at On the Go for the most fabulous holiday and Egypt you are amazing, I will be back.

I would like to provide some feedback on my recent Egypt tour with On the Go tours.

I went on the Jewel of the Nile tour. Our guide was Halel and he was simply amazing. Halel gave us 5 star treatment in all areas of the tour, Halel’s knowledge of the history of Egypt was amazing and he provided us with a stress free holiday.

Halel ensured we were all looked after on the Nile cruise, participated, at our request in joining us for meals and night functions. Halel even taught us some card games and card tricks whilst we relaxed over a drink on the sun deck. Lots of fun.

In our free time he always made sure we had enough time to take in the fast landscape.

Halel set up a Whatapp group to ensure we were all across any information needed for the following day. This also allowed us to share wonderful memories through our photos.

The trip for me was stress free, a once in a life time experience and 5 STAR all the way. I would recommend the tour to anyone and hope that they also have HALEL as their guide.

Thank you HALEL and On the go Tours.

After discussions with the lovely Nikki at Flight Centre she advised the best and safest way to travel to Egypt was by a tour group. Mum and I ended up selecting a 10 day tour ‘Jewel of the Nile’ with On The Go.

This tour has completely exceeded our expectations! From the minute we landed everything was taken care of, we did not have to worry or plan a thing! Ahmed met us at the airport and assisted us to our hotel which made us feel safe and looked after especially in a foreign country. We joined our group in Cairo and Halel our Tour Manager was so welcoming and provided us our schedule and helpful advice.

Travelling to Egypt we were unsure what we would be faced with but with Halel and On The Go everything was fantastic, safe and educational. Halel has a wealth of knowledge with his local background and Egyptology education. We learnt so much and were so appreciated by his constant enthusiasm and passion.

I would personally like to thank Halel and On The Go team for all their support and would highly recommend this tour and/or company for anyone looking for their next adventure.

It was a great trip with Ahmed as our guide. He made the trip very enjoyable and the group of 10 of us had a good time. He went out of his way to make this trip very memorable. He was very informative and it was a safe trip. This was my 3rd and best time to Egypt. I posted several post on Instagram #onthegotoursegypt. Let's hope more people will feel safe to enjoy Egypt. The trip down the Nile was very relaxing. I look forward to working on future trips with On the Go Tours. I just wish the Botswana trip would have been as good as our Egypt trip. Thanks again.

This is my 3rd tour with On the Go. As per usual, this trip was great in every way. The itinerary was excellent, and there was just the right combination of planned excursions, optional add-ons and free time. The highlight of course, was seeing the Great Pyramids in Giza. But also important was the information and context we received from our very knowledgeable Egyptologist, Helal. He ensured that we were all well looked after and make the trip go smoothly. While I did not book them in advance, I am glad that I went on the hot air balloon ride and took the side trip to Abu Simbel. Those are two activities not to be missed! The 4 night cruise down the Nile on the Fara ship exceeded my expectations. The boat was modern, the food was great, and the staff was so friendly. All in all, it was a great vacation.
