Itinerary
Day 1 - Paris - Blois - Tours - Villandry - Amboise
We depart Paris for the Loire Valley, pausing in Blois to admire its famed château, then continue to Tours for a relaxed stroll. You choose a spot for lunch by the Loire. In the afternoon we visit the Château de Villandry’s exquisite gardens – tickets included – before moving on to Amboise, whose medieval quarter lines the river. Dinner is included.
Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Amboise - Chenonceaux - Chambord - Limoges
We begin with a morning wander in Amboise, home to the Château du Clos Lucé where Leonardo da Vinci spent his final years. We continue to the Château de Chenonceau – tickets included – arching gracefully over the river, then visit Chambord – access to the park is included. We travel on to Limoges, renowned for porcelain, where you can explore the historic centre and Saint Étienne Cathedral.
Day 3 - Limoges - Sarlat - Beynac-et-Cazenac - Rocamadour
We leave Limoges for the Dordogne, a region of charming villages and spellbinding landscapes. At Lascaux we visit the museum and the meticulous cave replica – tickets included – to learn about its extraordinary prehistoric art. We then reach Sarlat, with a remarkably well preserved Renaissance centre, where you can stroll and find lunch. In Beynac we explore a medieval castle overlooking the river – admission included – before finishing the day in Rocamadour, a beautiful clifftop village with an important sanctuary. You might walk down the Way of the Cross and take the lift back up. Dinner is included.
Day 4 - Rocamadour - Padirac Cave - Collonges-la-Rouge - Saint-Emilion - Bordeaux
We visit the dramatic Padirac Chasm for a boat ride on an underground river 75 metres below the surface. We then continue to Collonges‑la‑Rouge, a picturesque village of red stone on the Way of St James. After lunch we travel to Saint‑Émilion, in the heart of the Bordeaux vineyards, where you have time for a leisurely stroll, reaching Bordeaux in the evening. Please note – the Padirac Chasm may be closed from November until the end of March due to weather conditions.
Day 5 - Bordeaux - Lourdes
Bordeaux’s historic centre is a World Heritage Site. We admire the Water Mirror and explore the old town with its pedestrian streets and an 11th–century cathedral. You then have free time to wander the Garonne quays for lunch or, if you wish, visit Cité du Vin – an impressive interactive museum devoted to wine. We continue towards the Pyrenees, arriving in Lourdes by mid afternoon, with time to visit the sanctuary – you may wish to join the candlelit procession. Dinner is included.
Day 6 - Lourdes - Carcassonne - Foix - Andorra
We travel across southern France to Carcassonne. You have time to explore and enjoy lunch within its remarkable walled cité. We then continue towards the Pyrenees, pausing in Foix, famed for the Château de Foix, before crossing into Andorra. En route we stop at Sant Joan de Caselles, a small Romanesque church from the 12th century, then continue to Andorra la Vella, where you have free time to browse the shops or visit Caldea, Europe’s largest thermal spa. Dinner is included.
Day 7 - Andorra - Montserrat - Barcelona
You have free time in Andorra for shopping or a stroll. After lunch we travel into Catalonia and ascend to the abbey of Santa Maria de Montserrat by rack railway – included – to take in the superb mountain scenery. You have time to explore the sanctuary – entrance not included – before we continue to Barcelona, arriving in the late afternoon.
Day 8 - Barcelona
This morning we include a panoramic tour of Barcelona, a Mediterranean city celebrated for Gaudí, modernist architecture and the lively Ramblas, as well as the legacy of its world exhibitions and Olympic Games. The tour concludes at Maremagnum by the sea next to Columbus Square, where you can linger along the waterfront. The afternoon is at leisure, with a return to the hotel at the end of the day.
Day 9 - Barcelona
After breakfast our journey concludes, leaving you with lasting memories.
