Itinerary
Day 1 - Athens - Tolo
Welcome to Greece. Upon arrival at Athens International Airport, collect your rental car and begin your journey across the mainland. Travel along the coastal road to the Corinth Canal before visiting two of Greece’s most significant archaeological sites—Mycenae and Epidaurus. Mycenae, once the kingdom of the legendary Agamemnon, was the wealthiest palatial centre of the Late Bronze Age. About an hour away lies Epidaurus, where you can explore the Ancient Theatre, renowned for its perfect symmetry and exceptional acoustics, originally built for religious ceremonies honouring the god Asclepius. Along the way, you may wish to stop in one of the small villages for lunch (not included). Later in the afternoon, continue to Tolo, check in to your hotel, and enjoy some free time to relax. Overnight in Tolo.
Day 2 - Tolo - Olympia - Archea Olimpia
Begin your day with a hearty breakfast at the hotel before exploring the charming village of Tolo. Once a small fishing community, Tolo has developed into a popular resort while maintaining its authentic Greek character. Take some time to visit one of the nearby beaches and enjoy a refreshing swim in the clear waters. Afterwards, set off towards Olympia. On the way, stop in Nafplio, the former capital of Greece and one of the most picturesque towns in eastern Peloponnese. Here, you can sample local dishes at one of the many taverns. In the afternoon, continue your journey either via the inland route to Olympia or along the scenic Gulf of Kyparissia. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure, soaking up the atmosphere of this historic town. Overnight in Olympia.
Day 3 - Olympia - Delphi
After breakfast, explore Olympia, nestled in the scenic valley of the Alpheus River in western Peloponnese. This site was the most revered sanctuary of ancient Greece, dedicated to Zeus, the father of the gods, and the birthplace of the Olympic Games. We visit the Sanctuary of Olympian Zeus, followed by the nearby Archaeological Museum, both within a short walk of each other. As you continue your journey, you will pass through numerous small villages where you can sample local dishes if you wish. There is also the option to make a brief detour to Patra, Greece’s third-largest city, before arriving in Delphi for your overnight stay.
Day 4 - Delphi - Kalabaka - Kalabaka
Enjoy a hearty breakfast at your hotel before exploring Delphi, a site of extraordinary natural beauty once regarded by the ancient Greeks as the centre of the world. At the foot of Mount Parnassus lies the Pan-Hellenic sanctuary of Apollo, home to the famous oracle, which you can visit along with the museum. The journey to Kalabaka is lengthy, so we recommend making one or two short stops along the way to explore some of the smaller towns that offer a variety of experiences. Arrive in Kalabaka before nightfall and take in the remarkable sight of the Meteora rock formations as you enter the town. Overnight in Kalabaka.
Day 5 - Kalabaka - Athens
After breakfast, explore Meteora, a remarkable site where ancient monasteries perch atop towering rock formations that appear to float in mid-air. These monasteries house exceptional examples of Byzantine art and offer a glimpse into a unique spiritual heritage. The name Meteora means ‘hovering in the air’—a fitting description for this extraordinary landscape, which is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Once your visit concludes, begin the journey back to Athens. You may wish to stop at any towns missed the previous day before driving to Athens Airport to return your car.
