Itinerary
Day 1 - The Golden Circle
Reykjavik pick-up is between 08:30 and 09:00. We set off on the Golden Circle to explore some of Iceland's most iconic sights, beginning at Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its historical and geological importance. We then visit the Geysir geothermal area, where the original geyser sits alongside Strokkur, which erupts every few minutes. We continue to Friðheimar, a geothermal greenhouse showcasing year-round, sustainable tomato cultivation, before travelling on to Gullfoss - the famed golden waterfall with powerful cascades. Your accommodation is arranged in the Vik area, a convenient base for further exploration. After dark, if conditions allow, you can keep watch for the Northern Lights.
Day 2 - Jokulsarlon & Vatnajökull National Park
We travel east along the South Coast to Jökulsarlon Glacier Lagoon - a relatively young lagoon formed around six decades ago as icebergs calve from the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier tongue. Watch icebergs drift past in shades of milky white and vivid blue, created by the interplay of light and ice crystals. The lagoon links to the sea, so fish move in with the tides and, in winter, seals often gather at the mouth to feed. Nearby, we visit Diamond Beach, where ice from the lagoon washes ashore and glistens against the black volcanic sand - a striking scene and a favourite for photography.
On the return, we journey through Vatnajökull National Park, home to Europe's largest glacier, dramatic peaks and waterfalls plunging into deep valleys. The landscape clearly shows the meeting of ice and fire - glacial rivers, green slopes and traces of ancient volcanic activity shaping the scenery.
Day 3 - Iceland's Waterfalls
We follow the South Coast road, taking in views of glacier tongues, waterfalls, rugged hills, black sand beaches and some of Iceland's best-known volcanoes. We stop at Reynisfjara's black sand beach to appreciate its striking geological formations and powerful waves - please keep a safe distance from the water as the surf here can be dangerous.
We then visit Skogafoss before continuing to Seljalandsfoss - 60 metres high - where you can take the path behind the falls. Dress well and be prepared for mist, as you may get wet.
We finish at the Blue Lagoon - on National Geographic's list of 25 wonders of the world - a geothermal setting known for mineral-rich water and a fine silica mud experience. You can choose to bathe here as an optional extra. From the Blue Lagoon, we return to Reykjavik and drop you at your hotel (accommodation is not included tonight).
