Day 1 - Gorakhpur to Kushinagar
On arrival at Gorakhpur airport, our representative will meet you and assist with your transfer. We then drive 50 km to Kushinagar – an important Buddhist pilgrimage site. On arrival, we check you into your hotel for a smooth and restful start to the journey. You can relax and settle in for the evening. Overnight in Kushinagar.
Day 2 - Kushinagar & Lumbini, Nepal
We begin in Kushinagar with visits to the Mahaparinirvana Temple – which marks the Buddha’s passing and houses the reclining statue – and the Ramabhar Stupa, the cremation site. We then continue to the Japanese Temple and the Kushinagar Museum, where artefacts illuminate the region’s Buddhist heritage. In the afternoon we drive 180 km to Lumbini, the Buddha’s birthplace, and we check in to the hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 3 - Exploring Lumbini
Today we explore Lumbini’s key sites. We visit the Mayadevi Temple – the birthplace of the Buddha – set among gardens and ponds. We see the Ashoka Pillar, erected by Emperor Ashoka to mark his pilgrimage, noting its inscriptions. We continue to the Lumbini Museum to trace the history and spread of Buddhism through its displays. We then tour the wider Lumbini complex, visiting monasteries and temples from different countries – including the Myanmar, Chinese, Korean and Thai temples – each showcasing its own architectural style. Overnight at hotel.
Day 4 - Return to Gorakhpur
Lumbini – Gorakhpur (135 km) We depart Lumbini and drive back to Gorakhpur, a relaxed overland journey to round off your pilgrimage. This is a good moment to take in the last views and reflect on the sites we’ve explored together.
On arrival in Gorakhpur, we provide a seamless transfer to the airport for your onward journey – concluding your Buddhist heritage tour.
