Itinerary
Day 1 - Milan to Lake Maggiore
Milan - Stresa (Lake Maggiore). Today you arrive in the fashion capital of Milan and transfer to Lake Maggiore, beginning your Italian Lakes adventure. You check into your four-star hotel and relax in beautiful surroundings. Lake Maggiore, Italy’s second-largest lake, stretches into Switzerland and is known for its colourful villages, Borromean Islands, and excellent local cuisine. You stay overnight at your hotel.
Day 2 - Optional Centovalli Rail Journey to Locarno
Today you take a scenic train journey from Domodossola to Locarno, easily reaching Domodossola station by train from Stresa. This memorable ride winds through the breath taking Centovalli, or “One Hundred Valleys,” passing deep gorges, rushing waterfalls, alpine meadows, bridges, and chestnut forests.
On arrival on the Swiss shores of Lake Maggiore, you have time to soak up the atmosphere and explore Locarno. With its Italian Riviera charm, the town invites you to stroll along the palm-lined lakeside promenade or relax in the vibrant Piazza Grande with a glass of Boccalino Merlot. Wander through the old town to discover historic churches, elegant mansions, and narrow winding streets beneath the sacred mountain, home to the Madonna del Sasso pilgrimage church. Known as Switzerland’s sunniest town, Locarno is a true delight. You return to Stresa by train or boat, subject to availability.
Day 3 - Lake Maggiore to Lake Como
Stresa - Como (Lake Como). Today you bid farewell to Lake Maggiore and transfer to the beautiful Lake Como. Set at the foot of the snow-capped Rhaetian Alps and framed by wooded hills, Lake Como greets you with stunning scenery and timeless elegance. Shaped like an upside-down “Y,” its winding shores are lined with historic villages and graceful villas. Spend time strolling along the lakeside, visiting the main square, exploring the historic centre, or taking the funicular up to Brunate for breath taking views across the lake.
Day 4 - Optional Lugano & Bellagio
Lake Como, Italy’s third-largest lake, is an exclusive resort destination loved by celebrities for its dramatic scenery, charming villages, and elegant villas. You may choose to join a full-day optional excursion that takes you to two countries and two lakes. Accompanied by an expert English-speaking tour manager, you travel by coach to the Swiss lakeside town of Lugano, where you have free time to explore the picturesque centre, sample Swiss chocolate, and enjoy lunch.
The journey continues to Cadenabbia, once a favourite of Queen Victoria and Tsar Nicholas of Russia. From here, you board a scenic cruise to Bellagio, enjoying time to explore this idyllic lakeside town before returning to Como by ferry, taking in breathtaking views of the lake from a new perspective.
Day 5 - Lake Garda
Como - Peschiera del Garda (Lake Garda). Your journey continues to the magnificent Lake Garda, Italy’s largest lake and a destination with universal appeal. You enjoy a relaxing four-night stay surrounded by natural beauty and tranquillity.
The southern shores feature olive groves, Roman ruins, and golden beaches, while the northern end offers dramatic alpine scenery backed by the majestic Alps. The surrounding countryside is one of Italy’s most renowned wine regions, with vineyards producing famous labels such as Bardolino and Pinot Grigio. Here, you can take part in a wine-tasting experience, sampling these fine wines while taking in the rolling hills and picturesque landscapes, a true highlight of your Italian Lakes adventure.
Day 6 - Milan
Peschiera del Garda - Milan. Today you make your way back to Milan, the vibrant heart of Italian fashion and design. Discover the city’s famous boutiques and marvel at its architectural treasures, including the awe-inspiring Duomo, adorned with countless spires and statues. Take the opportunity to ascend to the rooftop for panoramic views over the city and surrounding hills, then wander to the nearby Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a magnificent 19th-century glass-domed arcade brimming with luxury shops and elegant cafés.
