Itinerary
Day 1 - Marangu Gate Rainforest Ascent, Colobus Monkey Spotting & Mandara Huts

After an early breakfast at your accommodation, you are collected in Moshi and taken to Marangu Gate by road. While the porters sort and pack the hiking gear, you register with TANAPA in the waiting lounge. You then start the climb into the rainforest, expecting wet weather, mud and mist, and watching for wildlife such as colobus monkeys.
Around the midpoint of the trail, you stop for lunch, reaching Mandara Huts as afternoon turns to early evening. The porters and chefs climb far quicker than the hikers, so they arrive at camp first to pitch the tents, boil drinking water and have snacks ready for your arrival. After freshening up, sit down to a hot dinner before an overnight stay.
Day 2 - Mandara to Horombo Hut: Maundi Crater, Giant Lobelia & Heather Moorland

After breakfast, leave the rainforest behind and climb into heather moorland, passing Maundi Crater. You also have the option of climbing to its rim for sweeping views across Kibo Crater. In the moorland, spot unusual plants such as giant lobelia and groundsel.
Six hours of walking brings you to Horombo Hut (3,720 metres), which sleeps 120 hikers and sits on a compact plateau. As on the first night, the porters have water ready for drinking and washing. Enjoy snacks first, then a dinner cooked by your chef.
Please note: Nights here are cold, with temperatures falling below freezing.
Day 3 - Horombo to Kibo Hut: Alpine Desert Saddle Between Mawenzi & Kibo Peaks

After an early breakfast, continue your climb into alpine desert. You can choose between two trails to Kibo Hut (4,700 metres). The upper route branches right at the fork and follows the trail walked the previous day on the excursion to Mawenzi Hut, while the lower route branches left and is the more popular choice, shorter by an hour.
Kibo Hut sits in the Saddle, the alpine desert stretching between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. An early dinner leaves time to rest before the summit attempt that same night, and your guide gives a detailed briefing on preparing for summit night.
Please note: There is no water at Kibo Hut, though bottled mineral water, plus soft drinks, can be bought at the camp office.
Please note: Aim to be asleep by 7 pm ahead of summit night.
Day 4 - Summit Night: Uhuru Peak 5,895m Ascent & Descent to Horombo Hut

You leave Kibo Hut (4,700 metres) in the night and set out for Uhuru Peak (5,895 metres), the summit of Kilimanjaro. Physically the trek is manageable, but altitude is the far greater challenge. Every pair of climbers has a personal guide throughout, who keeps watch on stamina and determination.
Once at the summit, you have the option of walking down to the closest glacier. You then head back to Kibo Camp, rest for two hours, and carry on down to Horombo Hut (3,720 metres).
Day 5 - Final Descent to Marangu Gate & Kilimanjaro Summit Certificate Presentation

After a warm breakfast, walk down to the park exit at Marangu Gate (1,860 metres). At the bottom, the whole group gathers to congratulate you, and you can leave your thoughts about the trip in the guestbook. You then receive commemorative certificates and are transferred to Arusha.
