Itinerary
Day 1 - Chiang Mai
After a 13:30 collection from the city centre, we set out on a guided tour of Chiang Mai’s old town and its main temples. We start at Wat Suan Dok to see its Sri Lankan style chedi, 48 metres high and overlooking the Royal Cemetery. We then continue to Wat Phra Sing – a major complex of more than 60 buildings – before visiting Wat Chedi Luang in the heart of the old city, dating from the 14th century and restored after decades of decay with a more rustic appearance. We also visit nearby Wat Chet Yot, where its age shows in places, and Wat Chiang Man, noted for its numerous elephant sculptures. Overnight in Chiang Mai.
Day 2 - Chiang Mai
After breakfast at the hotel, we visit Wat Phra That Doi Suthep for panoramic views of the city. You can choose to climb the 309-step naga staircase or take the included cable car to the hilltop. The temple complex features a number of dazzling structures. We then continue to the bustling Wararot Market – a historical landmark known for the variety and quality of its goods – before visiting the nearby fragrant flower market. In the evening, we enjoy a khantoke dinner, a traditional northern Thai feast accompanied by cultural performances inspired by the Lanna kingdom, which dominated northern Thailand for almost five centuries – dinner included. Overnight in Chiang Mai.
Day 3 - Chiang Mai - Chiang Rai
After breakfast at the hotel, we depart Chiang Mai for Elephant Jungle Sanctuary (Grand Canyon). Following a safety and orientation briefing, we join an ethical, welfare focused experience centred on elephant care, conservation and observation – learning about the sanctuary’s mission as we watch the elephants in a natural environment where their wellbeing and freedom of movement are prioritised. There is time for photos. After lunch, we travel by road via Doi Saket, stopping at Wat Rong Khun – also known as the White Temple – a contemporary temple built in the 1990s and distinguished by its ornate all white exterior set with pieces of mirror. We continue to Chiang Rai, arriving in the afternoon, and we transfer to your accommodation. Lunch included. Overnight in Chiang Rai.
Day 4 - Chiang Rai - Chiang Sean
After breakfast, we check out and travel to Chiang Saen for panoramic views of the Golden Triangle – the point where Thailand, Laos and Myanmar meet along the Mekong River. We then board a boat for around 30 minutes to cruise the confluence and take in the riverside scenery. After lunch at a local restaurant, we transfer you to Chiang Rai Airport. Breakfast and lunch included.
