Itinerary
Day 1 - Chiang Mai - Lamphun - Lampang - Sukhothai
At 08:00 we collect you from your Chiang Mai city hotel and drive to Lamphun to visit Wat Phra That Hariphunchai – a golden temple complex with origins in the eighth century Mon Kingdom. We continue to Lampang to see the historic Wat Phra That Lampang Luang, then break for lunch. After lunch we take a scenic drive to Sukhothai Historical Park, arriving in the late afternoon to explore this UNESCO World Heritage Site, which preserves the ruins of ancient Sukhothai – the first capital of the kingdom of the same name. Lunch included. Overnight in Sukhothai.
Day 2 - Sukhothai - Chai Nat - Uthai Thani - Ayutthaya
We begin with a spiritual start, joining locals to offer food to Buddhist monks on their morning alms round. We then drive south, stopping for lunch in Chai Nat, following the historic route from Sukhothai via Uthai Thani to Ayutthaya – a path that reflects the kingdom’s southward expansion. On arrival in the former Siamese capital, we explore Ayutthaya Historical Park, visiting Wat Phra Si Sanphet and the adjacent Viharn Phra Mongkol Bophit to see the golden Buddha. We continue to the ruins of Wat Phra Mahathat, noted for its Buddha image encased by tree roots. The historical park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Breakfast and lunch included. Overnight in Ayutthaya.
Day 3 - Ayutthaya - Kanchanaburi
After breakfast at the hotel, we drive through rural landscapes to Kanchanaburi, a quiet town at the confluence of the Kwai Noi and Kwai Yai rivers. Known for its natural beauty, it is also marked by its World War II history – the Death Railway Bridge, made famous by the film The Bridge on the River Kwai. We visit the war cemetery and the Thailand–Burma Railway Centre to learn about the harsh conditions faced by Allied POWs and Thai slave labourers who built the military supply railway. After lunch, you have the afternoon free – optional activities are available. Breakfast and lunch included. Overnight in Kanchanaburi.
Day 4 - Kanchanaburi - Bangkok - Nakhon Pathom - Ratchaburi
After breakfast, we leave Kanchanaburi for a scenic drive to Nakhon Pathom to visit Phra Pathommachedi – a 127 metre high stupa that is the tallest of its kind in the world. We continue to Damnoen Saduak to experience its renowned floating market, where boats sell fresh fruit, vegetables and tasty local snacks amid a lively canal scene. We then travel on to Bangkok for drop off at your city hotel – the tour ends here and departure transfers to the airport are not included. Breakfast and lunch included.
